Some of the biggest news surrounding Chelsea over the international break has been the future of Jadon Sancho at the club, who joined on an initial loan deal from Manchester United in the summer, with an obligation to buy of around £20-25m.
However, it has now been reported that the west Londoners have the option to pay £5m as compensation, which would allow the Blues to break their obligation clause and send the winger back to Old Trafford.
Sancho has made 28 appearances for Chelsea since arriving, scoring twice, providing six assists and totalling 1,725 minutes played.
But if he doesn’t improve his form at the back end of this season, could Chelsea choose to send him back and go in another direction for that left-wing spot?
Chelsea's search for a winger
According to Fabrizio Romano (via Simon Phillips), Chelsea’s “dream” transfer target is Atlético Bilbao winger, Nico Williams, someone they have shown extensive interest in during prior windows.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.
However, Romano also mentions Williams as a “dream” target for other clubs such as Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
The main factor in any deal for Williams would be convincing him to join, as per Romano. His current salary – which is reportedly as high as £167k-per-week – could become a factor for Chelsea when discussing any deal for the winger.
Athletic Bilbao'sNicoWilliamscelebrates scoring their third goal
Williams has made 37 appearances so far this season, scoring nine goals, providing seven assists and totalling 2,599 minutes played. So how could Williams be a huge improvement on Sancho, and why does he fit Enzo Maresca’s system so well?
How Nico Williams compares to Jadon Sancho
In Maresca’s system, the wingers are often tasked with 1v1 isolations against the opposition fullback, looking to use these moments to be direct, attack and create chances.
Noni Madueke has thrived in this area for Maresca, often being direct and driving his way into the penalty area, creating dangerous opportunities for himself and others.

When comparing Williams and Sancho’s underlying metrics this season, you can see Williams is more direct with his actions, providing more goal threat, having a higher shot volume, creating more for his team and carrying the ball more frequently.
Sancho, on the other hand, helps to progress play more with his passing and has better assist numbers per 90, but perhaps doesn’t possess that same explosiveness that Williams does.
The 22-year-old Spaniard has been labelled a “world-class prospect” by writer Zach Lowy in the past, praising his ability to cut inside, test the keeper but also constantly beat his fullback, being a real “menace” for the opposition to deal with.
Sending Sancho back to Manchester United and picking up a more direct winger, who can offer similar qualities to those Madueke has offered on the right wing for Chelsea this season, could suit Maresca’s system slightly better, having wide players on either side who can force the issue and drive the team forwards.
Williams could then represent the ‘dream’ upgrade that the Blues are looking for on the flanks.

West Ham United have reportedly tested the waters by making contact over a move to sign a £33m+ defender ahead of Manchester United.
West Ham looking to spend again ahead of Potter’s first full season in charge
The Hammers and Graham Potter appear to already be working behind the scenes at the London Stadium on potential summer signings ahead of the 2025/26 season. It will be Potter’s first full campaign in charge of the Irons, who splashed the cash on a plethora of new faces last summer.
There have been numerous transfer links regarding West Ham signing a new forward, following injuries to Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug in 2024/25.
Antonio recently made a return to the London Stadium following a serious car crash at the end of 2024, however, the forward is adamant he’ll play again.
“Yes, 100%. I will play again. That’s what I am focused on and why I am working six days a week. I’ve always been positive from this situation. It’s a horrendous accident, and it’s a massive injury.
“It’s the biggest injury I’ve ever had in my career. But the fact that I’m already two to three months ahead of where I should be, I know that I’ll play again, and I know that once I’m playing the game I’ll get the sharpness back.”

Lille’s Jonathan David, Fiorentina’s Moise Kean and Corinthians’ Yuri Alberto are just three attackers thought to be of interest to West Ham, but additions could also be made at the back.
Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens has been linked with a move to London in recent days, and now, a centre-back target has come onto West Ham’s radar.
West Ham test waters over move for £33m+ defender
According to reports in Italy, relayed by Sport Witness, West Ham are looking at signing Udinese defender Oumar Solet. They’ve made contact and tested the waters over a potential deal and have received encouragement, with Udinese looking at possible replacements.
Solet, who was linked with the Irons last summer, hasn’t signed a new deal with the Serie A side and is out of contract in 2027, meaning an exit could be on the cards in the coming months.
Udinese want at least €40m (£33.3m) to part ways with Solet, who they only signed back in January. The 25-year-old previously turned out for the likes of Lyon and RB Salzburg, however, he was without a club for a few months prior to moving to Italy at the beginning of 2025.

Now, it looks as if he could be on the move again, but this time for big money if the Irons firm up their interest after contact by making an offer. If they do, Potter will be getting a centre-back who can also turn out as a holding midfielder if needed.
Pep Guardiola is widely regarded as one of the greatest football managers of all time.
Not only has he won an unprecedented number of titles in Spain, Germany, and England, but the Spaniard has also revolutionised modern football with his distinct style of play that emphasises possession, quick passing and tactical fluidity. Guardiola’s influence has left an indelible mark on the sport, shaping how the game is played today.
However, it’s not just his coaching brilliance that has captivated the football world.
Like his former rival Jürgen Klopp and former coach José Mourinho, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss is also known for his wit and sharp remarks, making him a constant source of entertainment for fans.
9 of the best Jose Mourinho quotes
The Special One has had a way with words over the years.
ByBarney Lane Dec 2, 2024
Some of his quotes are borne out of pure joy, while others stem from moments of frustration – but regardless of the emotion behind them, they always manage to leave a lasting impact.
Here are some of Pep Guardiola’s best quotes.
1 "It rains every day"
Guardiola’s Manchester City had faced a relatively tough start to the 2020/21 season, particularly struggling in front of goal.
However, after a 4-1 demolition of Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup in December 2020, Guardiola was understandably pleased.
Despite the emphatic win, however, he wasn’t ready to claim his side had fully found their form. Instead, he compared their performance to the unpredictable weather in Manchester.
“It’s like in Manchester. It rains every day. When one day the sun rises it doesn’t mean the weather is going to change,” he said. “It is just one game, but we will see what happens in the future.”
After Manchester City won the treble in the 2022/23 season, Guardiola once again referenced the city’s unpredictable weather during his speech at the club’s victory parade, over which the heavens had opened.
“We had to be the best parade with this rain, otherwise it is not Manchester,” he said. “We don’t want sunshine, we want rain, so it was perfect.”
2 "Like a jazz musician…"
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola is renowned for creating teams that operate as a fluid unit, where every player contributes in defence and attack to form an unstoppable footballing force. Even the incomparable Lionel Messi, despite being given more freedom than most, was not exempt from Guardiola’s team-based philosophy.
In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, Guardiola humorously summed up his attitude towards individualism in his teams with a hilarious quip about jazz music.
“In some parts of the pitch, of course you have to be creative and take the chance,” he said. “But I don’t like it when people say: ‘I like freedom; I want to play for myself.’ Because the player has to understand he is part of a team, with 10 other players. If every player plays like a jazz musician, it will be chaos. They will not be a team.”

Who could City turn to if Pep calls it a day?
ByCharlie Smith Oct 22, 2024 3 "I got better contracts"
Speaking of Messi, Guardiola has consistently showered the Argentinian with praise, calling him the greatest footballer of all time on multiple occasions.
However, perhaps the most memorable and amusing compliment came in 2022, when, in an interview with Telemundo Deportes, he compared Messi – who scored 211 goals in 219 games under Guardiola at Barcelona – to NBA legend Michael Jordan, and also took the opportunity to thank him for the significant impact he had on his career and his bank account.
“For me, Messi is everything in my career and he made me more competitive,” Guardiola said. “Without him, we would have won [trophies], but not as many. I compare Messi with Michael Jordan when Phil Jackson could feel what it was like to have the best player and he won six [NBA championship] rings. I also won because he made it easy.”
He added: “I still owe him a bottle of wine because thanks to him, I got better contracts.”
4 "All the alcohol in Manchester"
While Guardiola is undoubtedly a stickler for success, he also knows how to let his players enjoy the fruits of their labour.
In May 2023, City were confirmed as Premier League champions for a third consecutive year after Arsenal lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest. The next day, City beat Chelsea, lifting the Premier League trophy and collecting their medals in celebration.
However, before their upcoming trip to Brighton & Hove Albion just three days later, Guardiola’s squad made time for a proper knees-up. Photos emerged of the team enjoying a night out at a nightclub, soaking in the moment after their hard-earned title.
City played out a 1-1 draw on the south coast, and Guardiola praised his team’s performance, especially considering the celebrations they’d enjoyed since the weekend.
“The game we played, 40 hours after I think we drank all the alcohol in Manchester, 40 hours later we behave and we showed why we are the champions,” he told Sky Sports after the match.

Manchester City managerPepGuardiola
Since taking charge of Manchester City in 2016, Guardiola has transformed the club from a talented but inconsistent team to the most dominant force in European football.
So when the club was hit with 115 charges for alleged breaches of financial rules in February 2023 and rumours began circulating that City could face relegation as punishment, fans understandably feared Guardiola might be on his way out.
However, addressing the issue in November, Guardiola reassured supporters by stating that he remained fully committed to the club, regardless of the outcome of the charges.
“I will not consider my future [if] it depends [on] being here or being in League One,” he said. “There is more chance to stay if we are in League One than if we win the Champions League. What people accuse us of – we do not agree with what they say.”
“We are going to defend [ourselves] and after the resolution is done, I will be here, like a spokesman for my club,” he added.
6 "Everyone in this country supports Liverpool"
For much of his time as Manchester City boss, Guardiola’s main rivals have been Liverpool, with the Reds consistently going toe-to-toe with City for the Premier League title and other major honours.
In May 2022, the two teams were once again locked in a fierce battle for the title, with Jurgen Klopp’s side trailing Guardiola’s by just one point with only four games remaining.
After City thumped Newcastle United 5-0 to move within three wins of the title, Guardiola took a not-so-subtle dig at Liverpool, suggesting that the general public preferred to see them win the title over his team.
“Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone,” he told beIN Sports. “Of course, because Liverpool has an incredible history in European competition. Not in the Premier League, because they have won one in 30 years, but it is not a problem at all.”
7 "We cannot replace him"
One of Guardiola’s more emotional moments came in May 2021, when he couldn’t hold back the tears as he paid tribute to club legend Sergio Agüero after his penultimate game for Manchester City.
Agüero came off the bench to score twice as City, already Premier League champions, thrashed Everton 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium in what was a fairytale goodbye.
“We love him so much, he is a special person for all of us,” Guardiola said of Agüero, who won five Premier League titles during his time in Manchester.
When asked how the club planned to replace him, Guardiola, with tears running down his face, gave what has since become a memorable quote: “We cannot replace him. We cannot.”
8 "Happy New Year"
Sometimes, just sometimes, Guardiola lets his emotions get the better of him, lashing out at whoever’s in his path – whether that be a referee, a player, or even the substitutes’ bench, which he gave a good kicking during City’s draw with Arsenal in September 2024.
On occasion, he also loses his cool with reporters, just as he did with BBC Sport’s Damian Johnson back in 2017 following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Burnley, where Fernandinho was sent off after 32 minutes for a two-footed challenge on Johann Berg Gudmundsson.
Despite his side winning, Guardiola was visibly frustrated and found himself involved in a tense exchange, giving a series of short, abrupt answers.
Asked about his view on Fernandinho’s red card, he replied: “You are the journalist. Not me.”
Johnson replied: “You’re the manager. I’m sure the fans would like to know,” to which Guardiola shot back: “Ask the referee, not me.”
After insinuating that the interpretation of the rules was different in Spain and Germany than in England, Johnson commented, “You don’t seem that happy that you’ve won.”
Guardiola’s response has since become an internet meme: “More than you would believe. More than you would believe, I am happy.
“I’m so happy, believe me. I’m so happy. Happy New Year.”

Tottenham Hotspur have started identifying potential replacements for Son Heung-min, and the idea of moving for an “unbelievable” forward is now gaining traction among the club’s hierarchy, according to a report.
Question marks over Son's future at Tottenham
Tottenham chose to renew Son’s contract until the summer of 2026 back in January, exercising an option for a one-year extension, but there are still question marks over the South Korean’s long-term future in north London.
Spurs have started to identify potential replacements for the winger, who is set to turn 33 in the summer, amid a slight drop-off in performance levels this season, having only scored seven goals in the Premier League.
Mathys Tel, who can be bought permanently for £45m this summer, is seen as an option, however, the Bayern Munich loanee has hardly set the world alight since arriving in the January transfer window, having failed to score a Premier League goal.

As such, according to a report from Spain, Tottenham have now chosen a different player as Son’s successor, with AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo believed to be of interest, having impressed in the Premier League this season.
It is becoming increasingly likely Spurs will choose Semenyo as the heir to Son, who could decide to move on in the near future, with the Bournemouth star’s name often finding itself on the list of potential targets.
AFC Bournemouth's AntoineSemenyolooks on
The idea of signing the Ghanaian is now gaining traction among the hierarchy, with his versatility making him an ideal option for Ange Postecoglou, and there is a feeling he could be available for an affordable fee, when compared to other forwards on the market.
Reports from elsewhere have revealed Bournemouth could hold out for a fee of around £34m – £42m this summer, amid interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.
"Unbelievable" Semenyo could be a fantastic signing
First and foremost, Tottenham need to make sure they secure Son’s long-term future, considering the 32-year-old has still been their best-performing player in the Premier League this season, having managed to pick up 10 assists.
That said, it is clear that Spurs could do with some additional depth, given that injuries have left Postecoglou with limited options at times this season, and Semenyo could still be a fantastic addition to the squad.
In light of his impressive performances for Bournemouth this season, the 25-year-old has been lauded as “unbelievable” by members of the media, picking up seven goals and five assists in the Premier League.
It could be savvy business to sign a forward who is proven in the Premier League for as little as £34m, but extending Son’s contract should be viewed as a priority, given that his performances this season indicate he still has a lot left to give.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Lewandowski withdrew from selection for Poland’s June camp after telling Probierz he was “mentally tired”. The 36-year-old was absent for Poland's 2-0 friendly win over Moldova on Friday and will also sit out their World Cup qualifier against Finland on June 10, having not travelled to meet up with his international colleagues. Now, the Barcelona star has announced he has no plans to return to the squad while Probierz is still in charge.

WHAT LEWANDOWSKI SAID
Lewandowski made the bombshell announcement via his social media channels on Sunday, saying: "Considering the circumstances and the loss of trust in the Polish National Team coach, I have decided to step back from playing for the Polish National Team as long as he remains the coach. I hope I will have the chance to play again for the best fans in the world."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Lewandowski's announcement came just hours after Poland had confirmed Probierz's decision to strip the Barcelona striker of captaincy duties and hand the armband to Piotr Zielinski instead. That honour had belonged to Lewandowski since 2014, when he succeeded Jakub Błaszczykowski in the role. No official reason has been given for the change as yet.

WHAT NEXT FOR LEWANDOWSKI?
Lewandowski has won a record 158 caps for Poland to date, and is their all-time leading scorer with 85 goals. With his international career now on hold indefinitely, the former Bayern Munich frontman will enjoy a break from football before reporting back to Barcelona for pre-season.
Liverpool are now racing Real Madrid to the signing of a promising defender, and one who former manager Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of, according to reports.
Reds pursuing centre-back with Van Dijk future uncertain
Virgil van Dijk’s future at Anfield remains very much up in the air, with the Dutchman yet to commit to a new contract to extend his stay at Anfield beyond the end of the season.
Losing his captain will be the last thing Arne Slot wants in the summer transfer window, particularly with Trent Alexander-Arnold also seemingly on his way out, with a move to Real Madrid looking increasingly likely.
As such, the Reds will have to remain proactive in the transfer market, in order to make sure they are not left reeling by a potential Van Dijk departure, and one replacement they have in mind is Ajax star Jorrel Hato.

AFC Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is another name on the shortlist, following the Spaniard’s breakout season with the Cherries in the Premier League, although there will be competition for his signature from Real Madrid.
Huijsen is not the only centre-back Liverpool may have to battle Real Madrid for, however, with a report from Sky Sports revealing the two heavyweights are both interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.
A report from Spain has since gone into more detail about the pursuit of Hincapie, stating the defender has a market value of around €50m (£42m).
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield in the past, at which point it was revealed Klopp is a big fan, but it could be very difficult to fend off Madrid in the race for his signature.
"Beast" Hincapie could be an excellent signing
The Ecuadorian has predominantly featured at centre-back throughout his career so far, but his versatility would make him a useful signing for Liverpool, given that he can also play at left-back, which is another area Slot is looking to strengthen.
The aforementioned report makes it clear Real Madrid are also considering a move for Ibrahima Konate this summer, however, and should Van Dijk decide to move on, signing a new centre-back is likely to be a priority, with the Bayer Leverkusen star fitting the bill.
The Esmeraldas-born defender places in the 85th percentile for tackles per 90 over the past year, when compared to his positional peers, and he is ranked among the best tacklers in the Bundesliga, given his rate of success this season.
Hincapie has proven he could be an excellent signing for Liverpool this summer, but their first priority should be to seal a new deal for Van Dijk, given that it would be extremely difficult to replace the 33-year-old.
On just the second day of the World Cup Qualifier, Oman brought about the first upset of the tournament by chasing down 282 against much-fancied Ireland with five wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare in Bulawayo.Kashyap Prajapati, Aqib Ilyas and captain Zeeshan Maqsood all scored crucial fifties as Oman went about the chase with utmost professionalism. At no point did they look hurried, they stitched partnerships at every corner and registered a historic maiden ODI win against a Full Member nation to spark off delirious scenes in the dugout .That Ireland reached 281 was down to George Dockrell’s career-best 89-ball 91 after Oman’s spinners had the Ireland batters on a leash in the middle overs.Sent in to bat, the new opening pair of Andy McBrine and Paul Stirling hit their straps immediately, adding 51 runs in nine overs. With the 9am start, there was a lot of movement on offer for the fast bowlers, but the Oman quicks Fayyaz Butt and Bilal Khan failed to capitalise and gave away too many freebies.Kashyap Prajapati scored a free-flowing 72•ICC/Getty Images
However, almost against the run of play, Ireland lost both openers off consecutive balls. Having just nailed a pull the previous ball off Bilal, Stirling went for the same shot to a similar ball. The difference being a fielder had just moved to deep backward square leg and Stirling toe-ended his pull straight down his throat. The very next ball, McBrine picked out mid-off to an innocuous short ball outside off.Things got worse for Ireland, with captain Andrew Balbirnie falling for a 19-ball 7 as they lost 3 for 18 in seven overs. It was a trial by spin for Ireland, with the trio of Maqsood, Ayaan Khan and Jay Odedra tying them up.Lorcan Tucker was cleaned up by Ayaan, but Dockrell and Harry Tector added 79 runs for the fifth wicket. Tector fell after his fifty, but Dockrell took the innings deep. He helped Ireland slam 86 runs off the final ten overs. But the fact that they faced 157 dot balls in their innings was always going to haunt them.At no stage did Oman look out of depth in the chase. The bright sunshine did make things easier for batters, but the nervelessness with which Oman got about the chase was a sight to behold.Mark Adair got the ball to hoop around up top, and had Jatinder Singh edging to second slip. Prajapati and Ilyas, however, made sure the required run rate never got out of hand. They kept the good balls out and capitalised on the loose ones. Ilyas targeted Graham Hume by slamming him for three successive fours in the seventh over. The duo added 94 runs off 88 balls for the second wicket before Ilyas top-edged Dockrell to short fine leg.Maqsood came in at No. 4 and added a 63-run stand with Prajapati and then a 56-run partnership with Mohammad Nadeem. At no point did the required rate go above six an over as the Oman batters got the boundaries regularly and rotated the strike brilliantly.Maqsood reached his fifty off 58 balls and while he fell soon after, there were no flutters in the Oman camp. Nadeem (46 not out), Ayaan (21) and Shoaib Khan (19) all played their part as Oman cantered home.
As Kobbie Mainoo’s contract negotiations continue to stall, Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on signing a young midfielder who’s shown more creativity than their academy graduate.
Man Utd eyeing impressive midfielder
The Red Devils have it all to do this summer if they are to make significant improvement under Ruben Amorim. On course for a mid-table finish in the Premier League, whether INEOS have the funds available to rebuild their side is another question, but that hasn’t stopped the rumours from arriving.
The likes of Matheus Cunha and Chris Rigg have both been among the headlines this week, with Manchester United reportedly targeting moves to sign the impressive duo. Cunha would particularly offer Amorim a much-needed upgrade in attack, putting an end to the blunt nature of a frontline centred around Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Wolverhampton Wanderers' MatheusCunhareacts after the match
Meanwhile, Rigg represents one of the most talented young players that English football has to offer. The 17-year-old has become one to watch at Sunderland and could yet find himself on his way to Old Trafford at the same time that Mainoo’s future is thrown into doubt.
The Carrington graduate is yet to sign a new deal and previous reports suggested that he could seek a move abroad, potentially forcing the Red Devils to turn towards a Champions League-level replacement.
According to Calcio Mercato, Manchester United are now readying a move to sign Ardon Jashari, who Club Brugge value at around €35m (£29m) this summer. The Premier League giants aren’t alone in their interest, with Juventus, Atalanta, AC Milan and AS Roma all chasing the midfielder’s signature, but they are ready to ‘go on the attack’.

Still just 22 years old, Jashari has impressed throughout the current campaign, performing well in the Champions League against the likes of Aston Villa and interested party Juventus. Now, as a hectic race begins to form, he may have a decision to make.
"Great" Jashari is more creative than Mainoo
Two players who would sit in a deeper role in Amorim’s system rather than the advanced roles, Jashari has proven to be more influential going forward than Mainoo this season and could yet offer Manchester United an instant upgrade.
Despite sitting deep, the 22-year-old has had a hand in as many as nine goals – scoring three and assisting a further six in all competitions. Mainoo, meanwhile, in a season full of injury frustrations, has managed just one goal and one assist.
As both Zirkzee and Hojlund struggle for consistency in front of goal too, any help from the midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes’ output certainly wouldn’t go amiss at Old Trafford.
Praised for his “great technical ability” by analyst Ben Mattinson before he even earned a move to Club Brugge, Jashari has only improved since those days and now looks destined for a big move.
