Levy stance revealed as £120k-per-week Tottenham player gets offer to leave

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has adopted a firm behind-the-scenes stance, as one member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad gets out-of-window offers to leave the club.

Tottenham refuse to sanction January exits amid injury crisis

Postecoglou is currently without a host of first-team players – including Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin – prompting Spurs to not sanction any January exits.

However, it has mostly debilitated Tottenham, who currently sit 14th in the Premier League table after a very disappointing first half of the 2024/2025 campaign.

Even left-back Sergio Reguilon, who was previously outcasted by Postecoglou, has been handed first-team minutes and spots in Tottenham matchday squads lately.

The £120,000-per-week defender was widely tipped to leave N17 in January, with La Liga sides reportedly holding an interest in signing Reguilon as his contract ticks down towards its final months.

There were even murmurs that Reguilon could mutually terminate his Tottenham contract, but those reports have since died down, amid Postecoglou’s need for bodies in every area of the pitch.

The former Real Madrid gem spent time out on loan at Man United and Brentford last season, and while Reguilon currently has a spot in Postecoglou’s matchday squads, it won’t be for long with his deal up at the end of the campaign.

Daniel Levy stance revealed as Sergio Reguilon gets offers to leave Tottenham

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Reguilon has received out-of-window offers from Galatasaray and Besiktas, as the Turkish Süper Lig giants look to prise him away from N17 early.

The Turkish transfer window doesn’t shut until February 12th, meaning that either side could still sign the Spaniard if Spurs give the green-light. However, chairman Levy is currently blocking the left-back’s departure, with the Lilywhites chief reluctant to let him leave.

Udogie isn’t set to return until around midway through this month, according to reliable Tottenham source Paul O’Keefe, so Postecoglou remains in need of Udogie until a fair bit after the Turkish window shuts.

All signs point towards Reguilon staying until the end of 24/25, where he will then be free to find a new club on a Bosman deal. With Udogie expected to potentially return for their game against Man United, his counterpart is a solid alternative in the meantime.

“I’ve been an admirer of Reguilon for some time,” said pundit Noel Whelan in 2021 to Football Insider. “He really stamped his authority on the game and grabbed the winner to show what a quality player he is.”

Kieron Pollard calls time on IPL career, stays with Mumbai Indians as batting coach

One of the most enduring relationships between a franchise and a player in the IPL has ended. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians have released Kieron Pollard, their most senior player, to end a 13-year playing career that began in 2010, when they signed Pollard for an undisclosed sum via a tie-breaker that broke the deadlock between four teams. While Pollard said he would be calling time as a player in the IPL, his relationship with Mumbai is not ending: he has joined them as a batting coach and will play for MI Emirates, owned by the same group, in the ILT20 in the UAE.

Pollard is among a small set of players who have represented only one franchise over their entire IPL careers. The others in the list, with a cut-off of at least 100 matches, are Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2008), Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders from 2011), Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai from 2013) and Lasith Malinga (who had two stints at Mumbai). It was Pollard’s explosive hitting, athletic fielding, and smarts with the ball during the 2009 Champions League T20 that drew the collective attention of the IPL franchises. While he set his base price at USD 200,000 in the 2010 auction, four franchises – Mumbai, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers and Knight Riders – placed the maximum bid of USD 750,000 for him. Pollard became the first of two players in the IPL [Shane Bond was the second] to be signed via the silent tie-breaker rule, where franchises were asked to list a price on a blank cheque with the highest bid getting the player’s services.

It was a remarkable turn of fortunes for Pollard, the tall and well-built allrounder from Trinidad & Tobago, who had been left “disappointed” just a year earlier when he went unsold at the 2009 auction despite setting a base price of just USD 60,000.In a chat with ESPNcricinfo in 2010, a day after Mumbai paid him a sum estimated to be in seven figures, Pollard said his biggest challenge would be to “sustain what I’ve started as there would be big expectations of me – but cricket is a funny game, it can go any way; I’m just going to go there and play my best.”ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Pollard lived those words, becoming a talismanic figure at Mumbai. Pollard and former Australia allrounder Shane Watson are the only players with 3000-plus runs and 50-plus wickets in IPL. Pollard hit 223 sixes, the fifth-highest in the tournament’s history, won the Player-of-the-Match award on 14 occasions, including in the 2013 final, when Mumbai beat Super Kings to win the first of their five IPL crowns. Pollard entered Eden Gardens when Mumbai were 52 for 4 midway into their innings and scored an unbeaten 32-ball 60.Before every auction, Pollard was an automatic retention for Mumbai, including in 2022, when he was the franchise’s fourth retained player at INR 6 crore (USD 800,000 approx.). But if Pollard needed a reminder about the challenge of “sustaining” his form, it came in IPL 2022. In 11 matches, Pollard scored only 144 runs, and his average of 14.40 and strike rate of 107.46 were his lowest in any IPL season. Things have not improved since then as Pollard underwent a knee surgery during the English summer and then played in the CPL, where he led Trinbago Knight Riders, who failed to make the last four for the first time.As far as Mumbai are concerned, their decision to release Pollard came with the motive of entering the 2023 auction with a bigger purse. Mumbai are known to form long-standing bonds with their players, and Pollard’s transition to the coaching staff came as no surprise.

Fulham eyeing "outstanding" £34m star who’s scored two Craven Cottage goals

Fulham are now keeping tabs on an “outstanding” £34m striker who has previously scored two goals at Craven Cottage, according to a report.

Raul Jimenez's future in doubt

Jimenez has been in resurgent form this season, with nine goals and three assists to his name in the Premier League, but there is still doubt surrounding the Mexican’s future, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old is still waiting to hear whether Marco Silva wants to extend his deal beyond the summer, having shown signs he is back at the level he was at before suffering a skull fracture in 2020.

The Cottagers are seemingly yet to make a decision on whether to keep hold of the striker, with Silva perhaps keen to make sure he continues to perform at his current level, and there are now signs the manager could also look to bring in a new option in the summer.

Europa League club make first move for "fantastic" £17m Fulham player

The 28-year-old is viewed as a key target for the summer, and the first steps have been taken to get a deal done.

ByDominic Lund Feb 19, 2025

According to a report from The Boot Room, Fulham are one of a number of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham, who is currently on loan at AC Milan.

West Ham United, Everton, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest also hold an interest in Abraham, alongside Championship promotion-hopefuls Leeds United, so there may be a real battle for his signature by the time summer comes around.

AC Milan'sTammyAbrahamcelebrates scoring their first goal with coach Sergio Conceicao

The AC Milan loanee is said to be keen on a return to the Premier League, as he is looking to impress Thomas Tuchel and get back into contention for the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Roma paid £34m to sign the ex-Chelsea man in 2021, and while it is currently unclear what sort of fee they would be looking to receive this summer, they would seemingly be willing to sanction his departure, given the decision to loan the 27-year-old to Milan.

"Outstanding" Abraham could be a quality signing

The Englishman has often been utilised as a substitute this season, but he has impressed in the cup competitions, scoring in Milan’s 3-2 Italian Super Cup triumph over rivals Inter, while also bagging three goals in two Italian Cup outings.

Henry Winter lauded the striker as “outstanding” during his time with Roma, and he has previously impressed in England, reaching the 15-goal mark in the Premier League with Chelsea in the 2019-20 campaign.

The London-born forward has a 100% win record in his previous matches against Fulham, and he scored two goals at Craven Cottage for Bristol City during the 2016-17 season.

If Jimenez continues to play at his current level between now and the end of the season, the veteran striker will definitely have earned a contract extension, but Abraham has proven himself in England previously, and could be a top signing for the Cottagers.

Renshaw's century falls just short for Queensland in final-over thriller

Josh Philippe played a sparkling innings while Michael Neser claimed a five-wicket haul

AAP05-Nov-2022Josh Philippe gave the Australian selectors another reminder of his fine one-day form as unbeaten Western Australia overcame outstanding individual efforts from Matt Renshaw and Michael Neser to beat winless Queensland by five runs.Philippe (73 off 94 balls) struck six fours and two sixes as WA were dismissed for 236 having lost the toss at the WACA. Neser took a one-day career-best 5 for 28 off 9.2 overs and Renshaw (104 off 114) kept Queensland In the hunt after they crashed to 3 for 14 in the seventh over.Queensland, who ended on 231, needed seven off the final over bowled by Matt Kelly. Renshaw turned down a single off the first two balls, was unable to score off the third – a full delivery outside off stump – and was run out going for a second run off the fourth.Related

“I thought Kells bowled beautifully at the end, it probably got a bit closer and tighter than we thought but I still had full faith that we would get the job done.” Philippe said.Ladder-leaders WA scored their fourth win from as many games while Queensland dropped to three defeats from three.Fluent right-hander Philippe has scored a century and two fifties in four innings in which he has amassed a competition-leading 291 runs at a strike rate of 101, with a lowest score of 37 not out.He made three ODI appearances against the West Indies last year, and with Aaron Finch recently retiring from the Australian team in that format, Philippe has staked his claim for a recall for the series against England later this month.WA included Josh Inglis, who was pulled out of Australia’s T20 World Cup squad earlier this month after he suffered a hand injury playing golf a few days before the tournament. He looked good in making 24 off 28 balls before being bowled. It took WA 20 overs to get their run rate significantly above three, with Neser and Mark Steketee and Gurinder Sandhu extracting some early movement. They accelerated to 3 for 130 in the 31st over, when Philippe was caught after striking a six from Sandhu’s previous delivery.A seventh-wicket stand of 56 between Hilton Cartwright and Kelly added some late innings momentum after WA slumped to 6 for 166. Neser earned lbw decisions with successive deliveries as WA lost 4 for 14 to be dismissed with 16 balls left.Kelly and Jason Behrendorff smashed through the Queensland top order, with the latter having Test batters Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne caught for 4 and 5 respectively.Renshaw stroked 12 boundaries in a well-paced innings, though he did not see a lot of the strike in the last few overs.”The last seven overs he didn’t get much strike and it proved costly for us,” Neser said.

Romano: Burnley now reach "verbal agreement" to sign "Messi-ish" new ace

Fabrizio Romano says Burnley have reached a “verbal agreement” with the club of a player who has been compared to Lionel Messi, with a loan move to Turf Moor set to be sealed.

Latest Burnley news

The Clarets drew 0-0 yet again on Saturday afternoon, only managing to get a point away to a struggling Portsmouth side in the Championship. Incredibly, it means that Scott Parker’s side have still only conceded nine goals in the league this season, although this will feel like two points dropped.

In terms of Burnley transfer news, Tottenham youngster Will Lankshear was linked with a move to the club, although a host of other teams were also interested and the 19-year-old has since joined rivals West Brom for the second half of the season.

NEC Nijmegen attacker Sontje Hansen is another potential addition for the Clarets before the end of the January transfer window, but as of now, he hasn’t moved on to pastures new.

Similarly, Rangers ace Tom Lawrence is a rumoured target for Burnley, having not only proven himself at the Scottish giants but also impressed in the English game throughout his career. He has scored 50 goals and registered 40 assists in 264 appearances in the Championship, highlighting his pedigree.

Burnley reach "verbal agreement" to sign Edwards

According to a new update from Romano on X, Burnley are now closing in on the loan signing of Sporting CP attacker Marcus Edwards, bringing him in on loan initially:

This could be such an exciting signing for the Clarets, considering Edwards is a player who has been rated highly since his teenage years, with Owen Hargeaves lauding him back in 2022, saying:

“When [Pochettino] was there, he said he moved a little bit like Messi. That touch there, boom, that’s Messi-ish. Just the balance and the touch of it, great dribbler, great balance. The young man has great ability with the ball at his feet, great finish. He is obviously quite shy. You know off the pitch, but his game on the pitch is pretty special to watch.”

While Edwards, 26, hasn’t necessarily reached the heights some thought he would – with all due respect to Burnley, he wouldn’t be moving to the Championship if he had – he is a huge talent who could take Parker’s side to another level.

Wins over Brentford and Man United sealed back-to-back victories for the Lilywhites for the first time since September last year, but Kieran McKenna’s relegation-threatened hosts will be a tough task for Spurs as they look to solidify their Premier League status.

The returns of key squad members proved vital during their 1-0 win at home to United last Sunday, with James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert all playing a part after coming back from injury, while Destiny Udogie was fit enough for a place on the bench as an unused substitute.

However, there have been some concerns surrounding the form of Spurs captain Son Heung-min, who hasn’t delivered often enough during what has been a truly torrid last two months for the team at N17.

There are reports that Postecoglou could even drop Son from his Tottenham starting line-up, once Dominic Solanke returns from injury, as it would allow the Australian to deploy new signing Mathys Tel out wide in his stead.

Son has bagged just one goal and an assist in the top flight since late December, attracting some criticism for his displays as a result, with pundit Jamie O’Hara regularly questioning the 32-year-old’s suitability to captain the side.

“When you look at Tottenham’s two recent games, this was the moment to show that they could compete. Unfortunately, they’ve shown the complete opposite. There’s no fight, no heart, no desire, and certainly no leadership,” O’Hara said recently, via Tottenham News.

“For me, that lack of leadership comes from the manager and the captain. I hate to say it, but Son Heung-Min is not the right captain for this team anymore. A captain should be someone who can lead from the front, someone who can grab the team by the scruff of the neck and get the team out of a hole.

“Son isn’t that, it’s time to take the captaincy off him and give it to someone else.”

Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal prepared to pay £41 million for Son from Tottenham

According to CaughtOffside, after Levy and co elected to trigger the one-year extension clause in his contract, keeping him at the club until 2026, it is believed Tottenham now have a chance to recoup significant money on the South Korean star.

Indeed, Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad are now prepared to pay £41 million to sign Son from Tottenham, which comes as a very tempting fee considering he has just another season on his deal at Hotspur Way, not to mention Son has now entered his twilight years.

However, as things stand, Spurs are actually in favour of keeping the former Bayer Leverkusen star, with both the club and player open to discussing a contract extension beyond next season.

That being said, with this Saudi interest emerging, £41 million is surely a figure which will spark some debate within the Tottenham corridors at least.

Afghanistan and Ireland set to renew old rivalry at Super 12s

After having battled each other for Associate supremacy throughout the 2010s, the sides come together for their first meeting in a T20 World Cup proper

O’Brien: ‘Huge game for Ireland after the England win’

Big pictureOn geographical terms, Afghanistan and Ireland are perhaps two of the most peculiar rivals across cricket, but the intensity of this rivalry was borne out of a battle for Associate supremacy throughout the 2010s before both sides were elevated to Test status in 2017. Whether locked in a virtual dead heat in that era, or joined at the hip in the time since then as the fresh faces of the Full-Member society, these two sides know each other better than most at this tournament.Ireland and Afghanistan faced off in three consecutive tournament finals at the Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in 2010, 2012 and 2013, of which the men in green won the latter two. Those are part of the 23 times these sides have met before in the format since their first encounter in 2010. Remarkably though, this will be the first time they face off in a T20 World Cup proper.Barring those back-to-back wins in the finals of the qualifier, Afghanistan have dominated the rivalry, thanks in large part to Ireland’s inability to negotiate Rashid Khan. But the tide shifted this past summer in Belfast when Ireland took a five-match series by a 3-2 margin. Rashid only took one wicket in the three matches that Ireland won, highlighting a simple equation that has often determined the fate of the result over the years. Rashid takes wickets – Afghanistan wins. Ireland sees him off – Ireland wins.Form guide Afghanistan: LLLLW (last five completed matches, most recent result first)
Ireland: WLWWLIn the spotlightFor most of his career, Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie batted at No. 3. But since Kevin O’Brien was dropped following Ireland’s disastrous performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, Balbirnie has moved himself into the opening role and has justified the decision by doubling his prior career tally of four T20I half-centuries. The most recent of those came against England at the MCG, and he also served as a catalyst for the opening round win over West Indies that took them into the Super 12s with 37 off 23 balls.Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the best six-hitter in the Asia Cup, clearing the ropes on 12 occasions to make 152 runs at a strike rate of 163. The decision to chase may be even more enhanced by the forecast for Friday. Nobody has more runs or a better average for Afghanistan against Ireland in T20Is than Zazai, who has made 466 at an average of 51.77, including a famous 162 not out off 62 balls at Dehradun in 2019.Paul Stirling has an equally enviable record at the top of the order in this rivalry, scoring nearly 20% (614) of his T20I career runs (3133) against Afghanistan. He’s saved his best for ICC tournaments against Afghanistan. Two of his four half-centuries in 22 innings against Afghanistan came in Player-of-the-Match performances to win the final of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier.Quotes”I’ve seen a lot of rain in my time playing cricket, and I’ve never been happier to see that rain come down when it did.”

Yamal has been setting the world alight since his emergence as a 16-year-old winger with Barcelona, however, his 2024-25 season has seen him rise up as a world-beater. Under Hansi Flick, as a part of their stupendous front three alongside Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, the 17-year-old has shown the understanding and brilliance of a veteran to complement his burst of pace and his overall skillset.

On Wednesday evening, Yamal had one of his best games in a Barcelona shirt as the Catalan side drew 3-3 with Inter Milan, as he ran the Serie A side's defence ragged and also scored a spectacular goal after a solo run. After the game, Henry revealed to Yamal that he was going to watch Barcelona's La Liga Clasico against Real Madrid and wanted his jersey for his son, who is a big fan, which prompted the Spaniard to encourage a trade deal with the Arsenal legend that would see him get one of Henry's shirts.

WHAT YAMAL AND HENRY SAID

During Yamal's interview on CBS Sports, Henry said: "I am coming to see El Clasico [later this month]. I am coming to watch the game. Can I get your shirt for my son, please?

Yamal responded, "Then we have to do a swap, and you have to give me your shirt," which prompted Henry to ask him, "The Barca one is the one you want?"

Yamal then said he was okay with "Barca, Arsenal, whatever you want."
