Chelsea Keen On Signing 26-Year-Old Former PL Winger

Chelsea could still make an attacking signing in the remaining days of the transfer window, and they have turned their attention to La Liga for a potential addition, according to a new claim.

Do Chelsea need to sign another attacker?

The Blues have enjoyed a productive few months when it comes to transfer business, with Mauricio Pochettino coming in as manager and rebuilding the squad.

A number of players have moved on, including Kalidou Koulibaly, N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, while the likes of Axel Disasi, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Nicolas Jackson represent good incoming signings who can possibly take the club forward.

In the early weeks of the new Premier League season, however, there have been signs that further attacking reinforcements could be needed, with Mykhailo Mudryk struggling to make an impact and too much onus arguably on Raheem Sterling and Jackson to produce end product currently.

There is still enough time for that to change at Stamford Bridge, should Pochettino feel the need to make another signing, and a new update suggests that further business isn't out of the question.

Will Chelsea sign Raphinha?

According to The Daily Mail, Barcelona winger Raphinha is seen as an option to come in this summer, as is fellow teammate Ferran Torres, with internal talks held by Stamford Bridge chiefs.

"Names floated for Chelsea as potential forward targets include Ferran Torres and Raphinha at Barcelona and Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe. Interest is not particularly advanced but that trio are among the names being discussed by the Chelsea hierarchy at this stage."

Raphinha could be a great signing for Chelsea before the end of deadline day, having shone so much for Leeds United during their time in the Premier League. The Brazilian has scored 17 goals and registered 12 assists in the competition, once scoring a penalty at Stamford Bridge, and his pace, trickery and end product from the right wing could be a great option for the Blues.

Granted, Sterling is currently in superb form in that position, but the Englishman has shown how good he can be on the left flanks throughout his career, and could still thrive there for Chelsea. If they had him and Raphinha on either flank, and Jackson leading the line, it could be a formidable-looking attacking unit for Pochettino, while simply having the Brazil international would also improve squad depth.

Former Leeds teammate Dan James has described the 26-year-old as a "magician" in the past, highlighting the technical quality he has in his locker, and he could jump at the chance to join the Blues, having not always managed to be a regular for Barcelona since arriving from Elland Road last year.

While he still featured in 36 of Barca's La Liga game last season, only 25 of them were starts, and if he was promised more regular playing time by Pochettino in west London, it could be a move that really appeals to him, also helping improve Chelsea significantly at the time.

At 26, Raphinha is still at a young enough age to improve further and be a long-term signing for the Blues, so they could look to bring him in before the transfer window slams shut.

De Kock ruled out of ODIs, T20s against India

South Africa wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series, and the T20s against India after suffering a left wrist injury during the second ODI in Centurion. De Kock will require two to four weeks to recover, which could put his participation in the Test series against Australia, which begins on March 1, in doubt.Heinrich Klaasen, the only other specialist wicketkeeper in the squad, is almost certain to make his ODI debut in Cape Town. AB de Villiers is also injured but is expected to return for the fourth ODI at the Wanderers on Saturday, though it is not yet known whether he will take the gloves. The selectors have not named a replacement in the squad.BCCI

“Quinton suffered an extreme blow to the left wrist while batting in the second ODI on Sunday and felt severe pain and discomfort,” team manager Mohammed Moosajee said. “Further investigation revealed severe bony bruising to the area, with associated swelling around the tendon in the wrist. This type of injury will require between 2-4 weeks to heal. The Cricket South Africa medical team will aim to have him ready for the Test series against Australia starting next month.”De Kock’s injury leaves South Africa without an opening batsman and their first-choice keeper, but he has endured a torrid time during the India tour. He has not crossed fifty once in eight innings across all formats.De Kock is the third South African player to suffer an injury in the last 10 days, after de Villiers and Faf du Plessis, who are currently recovering from finger injuries. Dale Steyn, who was not named in the ODI squad, is still recovering from a heel concern.India lead the six-match series 2-0 after routing South Africa by nine wickets in the second ODI at SuperSport Park.

Rangers could sign dream Lovelace partner in new goal machine

Glasgow Rangers manager Michael Beale has gone through a total revamp of the first-team squad, shipping out players who no longer feature in his plans while adding some exciting new talent in the process.

This gives the 42-year-old a solid platform to work with and despite a mixed start to the season which saw the Ibrox side lose their opening Premiership fixture against Kilmarnock, they have remained undefeated since and stand just one win away from the Champions League group stages.

With the summer transfer window drawing to a close in a few days, could Beale add another player or two?

Are Rangers going to sign anyone else?

The Gers have shown interest in signing another centre-back, with Harry Souttar and Zak Vyner names that have cropped up, and it looks as though this will be the main area Beale will be targeting.

The final few days of the transfer window also seem to throw up the chance of securing a wildcard signing and Beale may just have a surprise up his sleeve.

Read the latest Rangers transfer news HERE…

The Light Blues were linked with a move for Sunderland youngster Tom Watson towards the end of July and while he wouldn’t go straight into the senior setup straight away, there is no doubt he could have the potential to form a key future duo with another talented young gem – Zak Lovelace.

How good is Zak Lovelace?

Giovanni van Bronckhorst signed Lovelace from Millwall in the summer of 2022 and it could turn into a stroke of genius by the former boss.

The youngster made his debut for the Championship side when he was just 15 years of age and had clearly displayed plenty of promise down south.

Rangers boss Michael Beale.

Upon signing, he was thrust right into the B team and enjoyed a stunning campaign, registering 28 goal contributions across 37 games – 18 goals and ten assists – and he proved that not only is he extremely clinical, but his talents stretch to more than just scoring goals.

Having made two first-team appearances for the senior side, his time will come in the next year or so and Watson could certainly follow along a similar path before hopefully forging a partnership with his compatriot.

Who is Sunderland starlet Tom Watson?

The 17-year-old tends to operate either on the left wing or through the middle and has scored 15 goals while grabbing ten assists during his 43 games at U18 and U21 level.

He has also already made his senior debut for Sunderland, which bodes tremendously well for his future.

Indeed, Tony Mowbray gave him a two-minute cameo against Huddersfield Town back in April, and it is clearly a sign of things to come for the future.

Journalist Josh Bunting heaped plenty of praise on Watson back in 2022, saying:

“Tom Watson is a player to keep and eye on, he’s scored for Sunderland 18’s against Leeds this afternoon, that’s three goals in his last four games, makes it stick up top, only 16 so is very much new in 18’s football but has taken it to it like a duck to water, natural finisher.”

Lovelace has already shown his vast promise at the club and having someone like Watson to link up with in the future could only be a big boost for Beale as he aims to build a squad full of talented young gems who could take the senior side by storm in the coming years.

Rangers media left thrilled by "best deal that’s been done this year"

The international break came at a good time for Rangers, truth be told. The Gers had just lost the first Old Firm derby of the season, as Celtic extended the gap over Michael Beale's side to four points despite playing just four games in the Scottish Premiership so far this season.

That defeat, combined with the thrashing at the hands of PSV Einhoven to end their Champions League dreams, has led to questions over Beale's future, and has put the need for good news high up on the priority list. And that's exactly what some recent contract news has given those at Ibrox.

After a rising star for the future put pen to paper on a new deal at the club, a number of media outlets covering Rangers reacted with delight.

What's the latest Rangers news?

Rangers boss Michael Beale.

Rangers will be hoping that the international break has handed Beale and his side a chance to regroup, before they go again in their return fixture against St Johnstone, who have already taken a point away from Celtic this season.

The Gers will at least be boosted by the recent news that 16-year-old Bailey Rice has signed a new deal until May 2026, despite receiving interest from many clubs, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Reacting to the news, one writer for This is Ibrox took to Twitter to say: "Fantastic to see Bailey Rice sign a longer deal. Has all the attributes to make an impact in a Rangers first team."

Meanwhile, the teenager also received plenty of praise from Four Lads Had A Dream, who responded, saying, "very good news" before the Rangers Rabble Podcast also spoke highly of the news, Tweeting: "Best deal that's been done this year."

With that said, it's clear that Rice is a highly-rated prospect at Rangers, and one that could play a key part in the club's future. The fact that he has been handed so much praise at just 16-years-old suggests that those at Ibrox have a potential gem on their hands.

Who is Bailey Rice?

It's no surprise that Rice is spoken so highly of by those who follow Rangers so closely. The 16-year-old made his senior debut last season, coming from the bench in the Gers' 3-0 victory against Livingston, to become the youngest ever player to play for the club. Making history like that, the midfielder more than deserved a new deal.

Speaking about Rice after handing him his record debut, Beale said, via The Daily Record: "He is only 16 and not often a young boy plays for Scotland in Spain on the Friday afternoon and then comes back to make his debut for Rangers on the Saturday. What a weekend for that young man. It is a pleasing moment for everyone who has worked with him and his family."

Everything is pointing towards a player with the potential to star for Rangers, and, as things stand, Rice has the world at his feet. It will certainly be interesting to see if Beale opts to hand the young midfielder even more opportunities to impress in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Maddinson, Denly help Sixers finish season in style

Nic Maddinson combined with Joe Denly for a rapid 108-run stand to ensure Sydney Sixers chased down 190 and secured their fourth successive win

The Report by Adam Collins23-Jan-2018
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsSydney Sixers finished their BBL campaign in fourth position after cleaning up their fourth successful run chase on the trot. With the fixtures yet to be played, there is no mathematical way the side will remain in contention for the playoffs, but they averted the train wreck they were on track for after losing their first six games.Hunting 190 for victory in a highly entertaining match, it was never in doubt for the hosts after Nic Maddinson got motoring in a punishing 108-run stand with Joe Denly, punctuated by the former collecting six boundaries from one James Faulkner over.Maddinson’s match-winning hand of 61 off 26 balls included two sixes that travelled more than 100 metres. English import Denly did the rest with an unbeaten 72, the Sixers home with 15 balls and five wickets to spare.Earlier, it looked like another player outside Australia’s 50-over team, Glenn Maxwell, would be winning headlines on the night when clobbering 84 off 47 balls. It wasn’t enough to earn the Stars a victory, but it was a timely reminder to the national coach Darren Lehmann in the commentary box that there are very few better in the white-ball world.Maxwell on a mission
Elevated to first drop in Kevin Pietersen’s absence, Maxwell issued a sign of what was to come by flicking Sean Abbott from off stump over square leg for six. Normal people can’t do that. Next ball, he popped him over cow corner. A pair of neat ramps off Carlos Brathwaite reinforced that the right-hander is more than muscle. Then, seemingly offended by part-timer Joe Denly’s introduction, he dismissed him over midwicket. The Victorian was flying the best way he knows how.It was only an exaggerated switch-hit off Nathan Lyon that slowed Maxwell, pinching a nerve in his neck. But soon enough, he was back slaying through cover before hoicking Ben Dwarshuis over the backward square rope to complete a 23-ball half-century.It didn’t end there. Somehow he made room to ping Johan Botha from outside leg stump behind point before locating the same boundary twice more off Abbott. Maxwell didn’t quite complete his mission, holing out off Brathwaite on 84, leaving a century on the shelf, but he had made it the Stars’ game to lose.A word for Rob Quiney, who played with equal freedom taking Moises Henriques down before striking Lyon gracefully twice down the ground for six. By the time the offspinner had him stumped, the Stars pair had put on 119 in 59 balls. That foundation was laid.Getty Images

Sixers fight back at the perfect time
With 150 on the board, six wickets in hand and five overs to come, the Stars were coasting to a 200-plus target. But the departure of the two set men changed the tone of the contest. Sure, 39 runs still came from the final five overs. But five overs also elapsed between the 14th and 19th over where a boundary wasn’t struck. Momentum, and all that. The Sixers won chasing in their final three fixtures and the window was now open for them on a true surface. Even if they would be one down with the bat after Jordan Silk had suffered a serious collarbone injury diving to save a boundary. From nowhere 30 minutes earlier, they were vaguely back in business.Maddinson powers on with a rare set
With dew in the air, the assessment of Maddinson was that the pitch was getting quick at the right time to take full advantage during the Sixers’ Powerplay. They suffered a setback when Daniel Hughes was caught magnificently by Evan Gulbis in the first over, but it didn’t dissuade the left-hander from going hard from the get-go. To begin, Daniel Worrall was plonked over his head and all the way by Maddinson. In the next over, Denly did likewise to the spin of Beer to get his night going. When Maddinson then pulled Worrall into the second tier of the grandstand, the party was well and truly started. But it was the fifth over that mattered most. Even in this inflated era of short-form scoring, it remains rare to see six boundaries in an over. Maddinson was in such good touch that he achieved that against the man adjudged Player of the World Cup just three years ago. Granted, the first of those did come from an edge, but the rest were controlled behind square and thrashed through cover. “Some of the best striking in BBL history” according to Ricky Ponting.Denly does the rest to finish his Sydney cameo in style
An inside edge was enough for Maddinson to raise his half-century in 22 balls, equalling his personal best. In this environment, 20-year-old left-arm wristspinner Liam Bowe never had a chance, and was pulverised for 21 from his first set. With the stand beyond 100 and the runs required to seven an over, it mattered little that Maddinson fell leg before with the score on 115 with fewer than seven an over now needed.Moises Henriques started aggressively, tucking into Bowe for another 15 runs from his second over. Denly’s 32-ball half-century looked sedate by comparison, but only went to show what a savvy acquisition he was for the Sixers to replace Jason Roy.

Aston Villa: Academy star could now fill Cameron Archer’s void

Aston Villa have been a club on the up since the arrival of Unai Emery in November 2022, with the Spaniard rocketing the Villans to a European finish in his first spell in the Midlands.

The former Arsenal boss has transformed the outlook at Villa Park, even more so after the summer transfer window, in which he made some stellar signings, most prominently the record-breaking capture of Moussa Diaby.

As well as welcoming five new faces to the squad, Emery bid farewell to a host of talent through sales, with one academy star in Cameron Archer leaving after rumours of him eventually breaking through.

How much did Aston Villa sell Cameron Archer for?

Archer worked his way from the academy to eventually gain minutes with the first team and then thrive on loan.

However, despite penning a new deal in 2022, the Englishman departed to Sheffield United on a permanent basis.

In a deal worth £18m, the striker has already shown his worth with the Blades, scoring on his Premier League debut at Bramall Lane.

Who could replace Cameron Archer?

While the sale of the 21-year-old was a good move for the player due to the current pecking order in the position at Villa, his move leaves a door open for another up-and-coming talent to eye a sporadic role around the first team.

The club have a list of budding talent currently excelling at Bodymoor Heath, as well as those that are relishing loan spells, with one being Louie Barry, who has already had a contrasting journey in the early days of his playing career.

Cameron-Archer-celebrating-for-Middlesbrough

From the highs for departing for the infamous La Masia set up in Barcelona to struggling loan moves following his switch to Villa, Barry looks to be finding his feet again in League Two, with the hope that his future could still be in claret and blue.

How good is Louie Barry?

Lauded as “very intelligent” by former manager Ben Garner during his loan at Swindon Town, the versatile forward could have a part to play under Emery in the future.

The 20-year-old, who can play on either flank or as a striker, impressed back in the 2020/21 Premier League 2 season, in which he showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting 13 goals in 17 appearances at academy level.

Such success prompted the loan move to Swindon, where he continued to impress in League Two, scoring six in 14 appearances as he rediscovered his form back in England after his quick spell in Barcelona.

louie-barry-aston-villa

Last term was a difficult one for the youngster, who endeavoured on two loans, firstly in League One with MK Dons in which he netted one goal, followed by a drop-down to League Two where he only scored twice for Salford City, via Transfermarkt.

It seems as though his current spell at Stockport County back in the fourth tier could decide his future with reference to his parent club.

With three goals in six appearances so far, things are going swimmingly for the winger, who could still make an impact at Villa Park should he be given a route to success, earned by his application while at Stockport.

Given Archer’s successful stint in the Championship prior to his move, the striker was a far more accomplished forward for the Villans to call upon if needed, with Barry’s claim to replace him still far from considerable at present.

A strong loan spell can make the difference, and at just 20 years old, the future is bright for the winger, who could find sanctuary under Emery, with other Premier League managers having already sung his praises.

Back in 2021, Jurgen Klopp dubbed Barry a “proper threat” after he scored against Liverpool in the FA Cup, telling of how high his potential is should he get the ball rolling once more.

Man United in pole position to sign £5m "top talent" ahead of Chelsea

Manchester United appear to be one of two clubs leading the race to sign an in-demand gem, and a new update has been shared when the Red Devils may hear if they are going to be successful.

What’s the latest Man United transfer news?

It turned out to be an eventful few months at Old Trafford off the pitch, with several incomings and outgoings in the transfer market and a takeover failing to materialise.

In total, United and Erik ten Hag brought in seven new players, with the likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana and Mason Mount joining in big-money deals. The club also received fees for six players in permanent exits and even sealed late loan moves for Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilon from Fiorentina and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, despite the transfer window shutting, it looks as if the Red Devils are still trying to put deals in place ahead of the New Year.

One youngster who was linked with a move to Old Trafford last month was Dino Klapija from Croatian side Kustosija. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said that talks were held over a deal, with RB Leipzig also keen.

“Understand Manchester United and RB Leipzig are both negotiating to sign top talent Dino Klapija — also an option to close the deal now for January Decision on player side expected soon as 2007 born striker will leave Croatian side NK Kustosija soon.”

There has now been a further update, showing how there could soon be a further development.

According to The Daily Mail, ‘Klapija hopes to have a clearer idea of whether he will move to the club after the international break’. It is believed that United and Leipzig are the clubs in pole position to sign the 16-year-old ahead of AC Milan, Barcelona, Chelsea and Juventus and are willing to pay £5m to seal a deal.

Who is Dino Klapija?

Klapija is a centre-forward who previously turned out as a midfielder and is actually yet to make his senior debut for NK Kustosija but has been capped by Croatia at U17 level.

Born in the USA, Klapija was previously on the books of New York City and appears to be a highly-rated teenager going off the clubs who have shown an interest in his services.

He could well be the next player to make the move to Carrington after the club moved on a number of youngsters in recent months.

The likes of Matej Kovar, Teden Mengi, Zidane Iqbal, Charlie Savage and Marc Jurado have all left Old Trafford, with the club adding in some beneficial sell-on and buy-back clauses as well as achievable long-term add-ons.

Should Klapija choose United over Leipzig in the coming days, weeks or months, then you’d expect that he may go into the club’s academy ranks before a potential loan move away looking to get a first taste of senior football.

It could be a while until he progresses into the first team, but after rejecting a £4m move for Erling Haaland previously, United won’t want a repeat when it comes to Klapija.

Celtic: Postecoglou’s "beast" has seen value soar by 1275%

Celtic were dealt a blow at the start of the summer as they lost manager Ange Postecoglou shortly after the end of the 2022/24 treble-winning campaign.

Who were Postecoglou's most expensive Celtic signings?

The Australian head coach, who moved to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, secured three domestic trophies last season and his excellent work in the transfer market played a big role in his success at Parkhead over his two years in the role.

He was able to snap up a number of talented gems throughout his spell with the Scottish giants and Celtic may continue to benefit from his work over the years to come.

Postecoglou unearthed gold with several signings and one player who is still at Paradise and has the potential to improve further is central midfielder Reo Hatate.

The now-Spurs chief snapped the Japan international up in January of 2022, which was halfway through his first season in charge of the club, and it has turned out to be an outstanding piece of business.

How much was Hatate worth at Kawasaki Frontale?

At the time of his move to Celtic at the start of last year, Transfermarkt placed his market value at €800k (£686k) after his two years of senior football with Kawasaki Frontale in his home country.

The young dynamo first established himself as a first-team regular with his former club throughout the 2020 J1 League campaign and immediately showcased his attacking quality from a midfield position.

Hatate racked up five goals and five assists across 31 top-flight matches in 2020 and also caught the eye with one goal and two assists in five J League Cup games.

Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate.

He averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.94 in those league outings and provided an excellent creative threat in possession with seven 'big chances' created for his teammates.

The Japanese maestro followed that up with an average Sofascore rating of 7.16 across 30 J1 League starts throughout the 2021 season, which shows that the average level of his performances improved as he gained more senior experience.

Hatate contributed with five goals and two assists from the middle of the park and displayed his defensive ability with 2.8 tackles and interceptions per game to go along with a 53% duel success rate, as per Sofascore.

In total, the 5 foot 8 whiz produced 12 goals and ten assists in 77 appearances for Kawasaki in all competitions over the course of his two years of first-team football there.

His impressive form for his former club in the J1 League was enough to convince Postecoglou to swoop for him in January 2022 as part of a move alongside Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi, and the Hoops boss claimed that they would "excite" supporters with their play.

How many goals has Hatate scored for Celtic?

The 25-year-old sensation has found the back of the net 13 times in 68 matches so far in his Celtic career since making the move from Kawasaki last year.

Hatate hit the ground running at Parkhead and produced consistently promising performances as he averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.02 in 17 appearances during the second half of the 2021/22 campaign to help the Hoops secure the Scottish Premiership title.

He contributed with four goals and two assists from a central midfield position and did not miss a single 'big chance', which shows that the talented gem made the most of his opportunities in front of goal.

Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate.

Despite joining in January, the Japan international only finished two goals behind David Turnbull – who was the club's top-scoring central midfielder in the Premiership with six strikes.

Hatate followed that up with an outstanding 2022/23 campaign in his first full year with the Bhoys. He averaged an excellent Sofascore rating of 7.23 across 32 league outings, which was the third-highest score within the squad – only behind Matt O'Riley and Jota – and showed that he was one of Postecoglou's top performers.

The technical ace caught the eye with six goals and eight assists in total, whilst he also created ten 'big chances' and made 1.3 key passes per game for his teammates, as per Sofascore.

No other Celtic midfielder found the back of the net more than four times and this suggests that the former Kawasaki star was the club's biggest goal threat from that area of the park.

How much is Hatate worth now?

At the time of writing (15/09/2023), Hatate is valued at €11m (£9.4m) by Transfermarkt after 18 months of excellent displays in the middle of the park for the Scottish giants.

This means that the Japanese magician's market value has soared by a staggering 1,275% from the initial £800k it was at when Celtic swooped to secure his services at the start of last year.

His exceptional performances as an attacking threat from midfield for the Bhoys have resulted in his valuation rocketing up considerably, whilst they have also attracted interest from Premier League clubs – including Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this year.

Hatate, who was once described as a "beast" by journalist Sacha Pisani, has scored 13 goals and provided 14 assists in 68 appearances for the club to date and still has plenty of time to add to his tally as his contract does not expire until the summer of 2026.

His market value could continue to soar if he is able to develop further and improve the standard of his performances in midfield over the course of the 2023/24 campaign and beyond, which could also lead to a significant payday for Celtic if it results in a Premier League team, for example, swoops in to secure his services for a big-money fee.

However, there is no doubt that, whatever happens from this point, Postecoglou unearthed gold in his move to sign Hatate from Kawasaki last year.

The Australian boss was able to identify a promising young talent and helped him to thrive in Scotland by providing him with the perfect platform to showcase his skills, which has led to his soaring market value over the last 18 months.
