Champions League Level Star Could Replace Winks At Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu this summer and his arrival in north London could push Daniel Levy to finally get rid of academy flop Harry Winks.

Could Spurs sign Kokcu?

According to a report from the Netherlands, Spurs have already held talks with the 22-year-old but will face competition from a number of top Premier League sides including Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

One major factor in the transfer could be the future of Spurs manager target Arne Slot, who delivered the Eredivisie title at Feyenoord this season and has a lot of suitors in the Premier League as a result, with Kokcu surely interested in the prospect of following his manager to England this summer.

The report suggests that the Turkey international could cost around €40m (£35m) this summer but it is clear from the performances this season that new signings are necessary if Spurs are going to re-establish themselves as top-four contenders under the new manager.

Would Kokcu be a big upgrade at Spurs?

The injury concerns of Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma this season have highlighted a lack of squad depth in midfield, with Oliver Skipp forced to partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park for much of the season.

It was decided at the start of the campaign that academy graduate Winks was now surplus to requirements in north London and he was sent to Sampdoria on loan, where he has once again struggled to have much impact, contributing no goals and no assists in 19 Serie A appearances, with a woeful 6.45 average rating from WhoScored.

harry-winks-leeds-united-transfer-news

By comparison, Kokcu played a vital role in Feyenoord's title win, contributing eight goals and two assists in 30 appearances, with a superb 7.35 rating from WhoScored which is only bettered by Harry Kane in Spurs' squad.

It is no surprise, therefore, that Dutch journalist Dennis Kranenburg would dub Kokcu "Champions League level" and given that Spurs could very easily miss out on European football altogether, he is exactly the quality of player that will be required to help them push back up the table.

With Winks still having a year to run on his contract in north London, Levy must realise that Kokcu would be a significant upgrade and use the departing midfielder's wages on a new signing instead.

Indeed, the latter registered far more shots (2.6 vs 0.6), key passes (2.7 vs 0.7) and passes (71.7 vs 45.4) per game than the Englishman has managed in Italy.

The arrival of a quality midfielder such as Kokcu would hopefully prove to be the catalyst in getting rid of Winks permanently before his contract expires, as Spurs must look to move on some of their deadwood if they are to progress as a club.

Arsenal Keen On "Electrifying" £65m Dynamo

Arsenal will be back amongst Europe’s elite next season, having qualified for the Champions League due to their excellent performances in the Premier League.

They may, of course, still win the title, but with Manchester City a point ahead and with a game in hand, Mikel Arteta may just have to settle for second spot and the chance to spend the summer transfer window strengthening his side ahead of another tilt next term.

The Spaniard appears to already be making a head start on improving his squad before 2023/24, with the Gunners reportedly interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, according to the Evening Standard.

It’s stated that the club looked at Diaby during January, but the Bundesliga side were reluctant to let him go mid-season. However, a move is more realistic during the summer, with the player expected to cost around £65m.

Given their preparations for the Champions League, the 23-year-old could be an excellent addition to Arteta’s team and would certainly give them something extra as they will face tougher opposition in Europe next season.

Could Arsenal sign Moussa Diaby this summer?

A return to the Champions League after six seasons away will help the club secure higher-profile targets, and this will certainly boost Arteta’s squad.

Diaby has shone since arriving in Germany from Paris Saint-Germain four years ago, scoring 49 goals and grabbing 48 assists – excellent numbers for a winger. This proves he can be not only a wonderful goal threat, but create countless opportunities for his teammates.

He has been described as “electrifying” due to his pace by journalist Aaron Stokes, while analytics site FBref considers him statistically similar to Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr, which could be an excellent omen for the Gunners.

According to FBref, the Brazilian sensation is the third-most similar player to Diaby across Europe’s big five leagues, and given the impact he has had at Real Madrid over the previous few seasons – including scoring the winner in the Champions League final last term – it’s not a bad comparison to have.

This season has seen Vinicius and Diaby register impressive stats with regard to goals (ten to nine), goal-creating actions (21 to 16), crosses (91 to 60) and progressive carries (210 to 117), suggesting that they offer a dangerous threat from a wide position.

Moussa Diaby

While Vinicius Jr has the statistical edge over the Frenchman, he has evolved into one of the finest talents on the continent, while there may be some benefit to playing for Real Madrid – so there is every chance Diaby can grow his game even further if he made the move to join Arsenal.

It may cost the club £65m, yet it would be a wise investment indeed.

Rangers Transfer Update On Move For "Exceptional" 24 y/o

Glasgow Rangers and Michael Beale have been given a big boost in their pursuit to sign Arsenal defender Auston Trusty, according to Football Insider.

What’s the latest Rangers transfer news?

The Gers appear to be making a head start on their summer plans, with Chelsea right-back Dujon Sterling and Norwich City attacking midfielder Kieran Dowell likely to move north in free transfers over the coming weeks.

Alongside the English duo, a deal to sign Ecuador midfielder Jose Cifuentes also appears to be close, and another new defender is also wanted in Glasgow.

Trusty has been linked with a £2m switch to Rangers following a successful season-long loan spell with Birmingham City, where he won the club’s Player of the Year award, and an update has now emerged.

According to Football Insider, a move for Trusty is now thought to be ‘doable’ in what is described as a big boost for Beale.

The Gunners are willing to accept an offer for the USA international this summer, while Rangers have been monitoring the player as they look to bolster their centre-back ranks.

Glasgow Rangers head coach Michael Beale.

Who is Auston Trusty?

Trusty is 24 years of age and is primarily a centre-back who can also turn out as a left-back if needed. Valued at a career-high €9m by Transfermarkt, the left-footed defender appears to be at the top of his game and made a whopping 48 appearances in all competitions for Birmingham this season.

As well as winning the Player of the Year award, Trusty also came in for praise from Blues manager Jon Eustace, who said this back in October.

“He is going to be a top player, he is going to go back to Arsenal, whenever that is, at the end of the season and hopefully push for that first team spot there and I think he certainly deserves to be going to the World Cup. His performances for us having been exceptional and they are only going to get better and better.”

You can see why Beale wants to bolster his defence with Filip Helander out of contract at the end of the month. That will leave him with four centre-back options, one of which being teenager Leo King, so adding a fifth in Trusty, who can also cover at left-back, appears to be a shrewd move.

He has just come off the back of an impressive campaign in the Championship, and it looks as if he could possibly be playing at Ibrox next season in a new look Rangers side.

Newcastle Chase Of £37k p/w Ace Could Hit Roadblock

Newcastle United may encounter a problem concerning their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby due to Lionel Messi leaving Paris Saint-German this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

What's the latest news involving Moussa Diaby and Lionel Messi?

As per Sport BILD, Newcastle United and Arsenal are said to be 'among the favourites' in the race to sign Diaby this summer from Bayer Leverkusen.

The report states that the Magpies could afford a deal for Diaby financially, though they will face further interest in his services from the continent as Paris Saint-Germain are mooted to be keen on bringing the 23-year-old back to the Parc des Princes, where he came through as a youth product.

90min claim that Newcastle United hold a long-standing admiration towards Diaby and have been scouting him since last year alongside his teammate Mitchel Bakker.

Capology understand that Diaby earns around €43,462 (£37,769) on the books at the BayArena on a contract that runs until June 2025.

In the case of Messi, Sky Sports News detail that he will leave Paris Saint-Germain when his deal at the Ligue 1 giants expires at the end of this term.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Jones thinks that Messi leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer might 'strengthen their desire' to acquire Diaby, thus having a knock-on effect on Newcastle United's pursuit of the France international.

Jones said: "One of the problems with Messi leaving PSG this summer is that it might strengthen their desire to sign Diaby, and that would be bad news for the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle who have looked closely at that situation.

“In recent times we have started to see and hear about changes to the philosophy of PSG when it comes to signings and when Messi does leave I don’t think it’ll be a case of replacing him with another superstar, I think it will be a situation where they look to sign talent of Diaby’s type.

“There has been a level of interest there for some time but the conditions for him to arrive just haven’t been right and I do wonder if that now changes.

“He was born in Paris and contacts I speak to in France keep telling me about the fact they’re finding more players with that home connection is an important aspect of how they move forward."

Would Moussa Diaby be a good signing for Newcastle United?

Diaby has enjoyed another strong campaign for Bayer Leverkusen, registering 14 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

WhoScored also gather that the 23-year-old has obtained an average match rating of 7.13/10 for his exploits on the pitch, making him Bayer Leverkusen's third-most consistent performer this term behind Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.

moussa-diaby

As per FBRef, Diaby has also excelled in providing opportunities to his teammates, racking up a total of 132 shot-creating actions for his side.

Despite stiff competition for his signature, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe will be desperate to land Diaby in the summer window as he would be a statement signing heading into next season.

Arsenal Staff Member in Spat With Former Gunner

Well-known Arsenal photographer Stuart MacFarlane has slammed an unnamed ex-reserve player after he was "trolled" in a message for not winning the league.

How many days were Arsenal top of the league?

It was a tough weekend for the Gunners as they lost by a single goal away at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

As a direct consequence, rivals Manchester City were able to win the title race without actually having to kick a ball on Sunday – though they still picked up all three points against Chelsea in their own match.

Sadly, Arsenal's failure to lift the league trophy means they set a new record as the team that spent the most days at the top of the table (248) without managing to go on and win the division.

In light of their defeat, it seems one gleeful ex-Gunner could help but rub the club's disappointment in the face of one of their loyal staff members.

Indeed, as revealed by MacFarlane on his personal Instagram page, a former Arsenal academy man had been in his DMs asking like a : "Baby".

The photographer explained: "Tough evening in Nottingham but ultimately very proud of what the players and staff have achieved this season. Getting trolled on my DMs by an ex reserve player for us not winning the league is hilarious, will he ever grow up and move on…I doubt it #baby."

Who is Stuart MacFarlane?

The chief photographer and lifelong fan came to the attention of many fans last year when he delivered a rousing speech ahead of the North London Derby win over Tottenham Hotspur – as captured in Amazon's All or Nothing documentary.

At the time, Mikel Arteta explained his importance, saying (via The Sun): "This guy, for the last 30 years has captured emotions, emotions and teams.

"I want you to hear from him, how he feels about you. And about our club."

And so it's clear that MacFarlane has a deeply personal link with Arsenal and one former player thought it would be best to personally seek him out with a message to rub salt in the wounds as the club's title challenge came to a disappointing end.

It might be unfair to speculate too much on who this individual might be but TalkSport host Jamie O'Hara is one player that comes to mind. After all, he came through the academy but went on to play for Spurs and has been vocally revelling in the Gunners' struggles at every opportunity this season.

Still, that is just a guess, so perhaps it's best not to jump to any major conclusions just yet.

Beale Edges Closer To Rangers Move For "Dynamic" Gem

Glasgow Rangers are edging closer to the signing of midfielder Jose Cifuentes as Michael Beale looks to continue his rebuild ahead of next term.

What’s the latest on Jose Cifuentes to Rangers?

Fabrizio Romano dropped an update on Rangers’ pursuit of the Ecuadorian midfielder, tweeting: “Rangers are advancing for the signing of LAFC midfielder José Cifuentes – talks are progressing to crucial stages.

“The agents of the player has met with the club few days ago – all the parties confident to get the deal done soon.”

It looks as though the Ibrox side are closing in on securing the Los Angeles FC star ahead of next season, and with his current contract expiring in December this year, Beale will be hoping for a knockdown fee.

What is Jose Cifuentes’ style of play?

The midfielder tends to operate in the centre of midfield, though his versatility enables him to sit slightly deeper or push on in a more advanced role.

Ecuador football expert Benedikt Duda supports this, saying: “Cifuentes is a no.8, who is physical and strong in defence with a tendency to get involved in the attack.

“There is a good reason he wears the no.11, and footballing-wise, he models himself after Paul Pogba.”

Comparing the 24-year-old to Pogba may seem a tad far-fetched, though the duo are both box-to-box midfielders who can contribute effectively at either end of the pitch.

The Frenchman’s finest season at Manchester United came back in 2018/19, when he scored 13 goals and registered nine assists, demonstrating his attacking ability. However, he also made 1.3 tackles per game and won 6.7 duels each game, proving he was more than able to contribute defensively and showcased his physicality to great effect.

Last season in MLS, Cifuentes registered 13 goal contributions – seven goals and six assists – while winning 4.7 duels and making 1.8 tackles per game, certainly hinting that he has box-to-box credentials and that he has the attributes to become Beale’s own Pogba, which isn’t a bad comparison considering how effective the Frenchman has been during his career.

The 5 foot 8 gem was also described as “very dynamic” by LAFC assistant manager Marc Dos Santos and this type of player could give Beale’s midfield an added spark, especially following the January captures of Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell.

He also has plenty of international experience having played two matches for Ecuador at the 2022 World Cup, and with the transfer window this summer potentially being the most important in the Gers’ recent history, luring the 24-year-old to Glasgow could get it off to a wonderful start.

Cummins 'fights hard' before maiden Test strike

West Indies quick Miguel Cummins has said he did not let the long wait for his first Test wicket fluster him

Karthik Krishnaswamy in St Lucia 11-Aug-20161:42

‘My debut game was very tough’ – Cummins

Having gone wicketless with the first 280 balls of his Test career, Miguel Cummins picked up three in his next ten balls. In the space of those first 280 balls, Cummins went through multiple frustrations: going off with cramps in his debut Test, and, in his second Test, watching batsmen fend accurate bouncers in the general direction of short leg but just out of the fielder’s reach.”For me, the debut Test was very tough, because I was playing for the first time so nerves took in,” Cummins said at the end of the second day’s play in St Lucia. “Was fighting a long way, fighting hard, hard, hard. Came today, saw the [other] guys take wickets but didn’t let that fluster me. I tried looking for wickets but my job was to build pressure.”On Tuesday, West Indies took the first five Indian wickets for 126 runs, and in the second session on Wednesday, they ran through the last five wickets for the cost of only 14 runs. But in between, R Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha put on 213 to balance out some of West Indies’ good work with the ball.Cummins applauded his team-mates for toppling India’s top half, but admitted Ashwin and Saha made things tough for them. “We did a very good job of getting their top order,” he said. “They are a very talented batting line-up but we stuck to our plans. But can’t take anything away from Ashwin and Saha, they batted very well. We had to keep fighting when they had the partnership.”West Indies made good use of a St Lucia pitch with plenty of bounce on offer, with Alzarri Joseph dismissing Virat Kohli with a well-directed lifter on day one and Cummins and Shannon Gabriel wiping out the lower order with a barrage of short balls.”The plan was not to bowl short [exclusively] but mix it up,” Cummins said. “Ashwin normally sits on the back foot, lot of guys sit on the back foot. So our plan was to get some balls [pitched] up and let them drive and then use the short-pitched stuff.”

Everton: £70k-p/w Lightweight Was "Run Ragged" Vs Man City

Everton failed to move further clear of the relegation zone as they lost 3-0 to Manchester City at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Sunday.

The visitors found the opener as Ilkay Gundogan exceptionally controlled the ball with his back to goal in the box before flicking it backwards and into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

One quickly became two, as the German international this time turned provider.

He burst down the left wing before producing an inch-perfect cross for Erling Haaland to power a header past Jordan Pickford.

It did not take long for the away side to make it 3-0 after the break as Gundogan scored his second as he curled a stunning free-kick into the top corner from the edge of the box.

The third goal prompted Toffees boss Sean Dyche to make two alterations to his team by subbing on Conor Coady and Amadou Onana for Mason Holgate and Idrissa Gueye, with the former of those coming off, having put in a particularly disappointing display.

How did Mason Holgate perform against Manchester City?

Everton were forced to take Vitaliy Mykolenko out of their side due to an injury in the build-up to the match and his replacement did his long-term hopes of nailing down a position in the team no favours.

Holgate looked lost at left-back throughout his time on the pitch and was a liability to what the Toffees were trying to do on and off the ball.

Everton's Mason Holgate competing with Manchester City's Erling Haaland.

The Englishman was caught out for City's second goal as Haaland got the run on him for the header and did not do enough to stop Riyad Mahrez from crossing for the opening strike from Gundogan.

In the 53rd minute of the match, Sky Sports analyst Andy Hinchcliffe noted on commentary that the defender was being "run ragged" by Mahrez throughout the game and Dyche replaced him with Coady just three minutes later.

As per Sofascore, he did not win a single duel as the 26-year-old was beaten in all four of his physical contests, which highlights just how weak he was against a player not known for his aerial or physical threat, whilst Holgate was also dribbled past twice and failed to make a single tackle, interception, or block.

Had he done so, then you'd imagine the left flank would've looked a lot more resolute and perhaps could have helped the Toffees build on an impressive opening spell.

The £70k-per-week full-back even struggled in possession as the 6-foot lightweight only completed three of his six attempted passes and missed one 'big chance' in the first half as he could not convert from James Tarkowski's knockdown.

Holgate, who was given a Sofascore rating of 5.5, which was the lowest of any starter for either team, did not step up and stake a claim for a regular place in the XI and this display should leave Dyche seriously considering whether to utilise the defender again in the battle against relegation.

With Wolverhampton Wanderers and then AFC Bournemouth, it would be a surprise to see the former Barnsley prospect in the starting lineup again, based on that performance alone.
