Glasgow Rangers target Lyndon Dykes is close to completing a move to Queens Park Rangers.

The Gers had been heavily linked with a move for the Australian, who scored 12 goals and provided a further 10 assists for Livingston in all competitions last term. However, the forward is now on the verge of completing a switch to Loftus Road, with the Championship side expected to pay £2m for his services.

As Steven Gerrard looked for a striker earlier on in the transfer window, it looked as though Dykes was a prime target – there were even suggestions that the 24-year-old was issuing a come-and-get-me plea with some of his comments on a potential move to Ibrox.

However, it looks as though the Gers quickly moved on from the striker, and they have since been busy in that area of the pitch with the arrivals of Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe. Those two join Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe as the options already available to Gerrard – the need for another forward has been dramatically reduced.

As such, Dykes was no longer a necessity – the Gers should not feel too disappointed that he has decided to move to London instead of Glasgow.

According to Voetbal 24, Rangers remain interested in Anderlecht attacker Kemar Roofe.

What’s the word?

With Alfredo Morelos’ long-term future at Ibrox still fairly uncertain, Steven Gerrard will surely be in the market for a new striker. And according to Voetbal 24, the man they seem keen on bringing to Scotland, is Roofe.

The report claims that Anderlecht may be willing to cash in this summer in order to bring in some money of their own and reinvest, and that Rangers have not given up the fight in signing him.

It also claims the Gers would have to pay at least €6m (£5.4m) in order to convince their Belgian counterparts to part ways with him.

Much-needed striker

Speaking after a 4-0 pre-season triumph over Motherwell, Gerrard admitted that Jermain Defoe’s injury could mean they further step up their interest in a new centre-forward.

He said: “First and foremost we just need to stay calm and find out the extent of the injury. I went on record last week to say I’d like to add in that area in terms of having extra fire power so who knows? It might push us even further in that direction to try and get something done.”

With seven goals in 16 games in the 2019/2020 season for Anderlecht, Roofe has proven that he can be a reliable goal-getter. And with his experience of playing for the likes of Leeds United in English football has given him the kind of pedigree that could see him acclimatise to Rangers with ease.

His former manager at Leeds, Thomas Christiansen spoke glowingly about what Roofe can bring to the table late last year. He said: “Kemar is able to push forward, defend with it and still turn up in the sixteen. His height seems a disadvantage, but that is it is not. Kemar is strong and jumps high. He will score with his head. He is a goal-getter. He will score at least twenty. Kemar is cold-blooded for the goal. And he can also finish with his left and right.”

If Gerrard needed any more convincing that Roofe could be his man, then Christiansen’s words should surely act as a seal of approval. The 27-year-old should be Rangers sporting director, Ross Wilson’s first port of call when looking for a new centre-forward.

وكان من المفترض مشاركة إيميل سميث روي في مباراة إنجلترا وكوسوفو في التصفيات المؤهلة لبطولة كأس أمم أوروبا تحت سن 21 عامًا، مساء الثلاثاء.

وأوضحت الصحيفة أن إيميل سميث روي غادر معسكر منتخب إنجلترا للشباب، وعاد إلى آرسنال من أجل تلقي العلاج المناسب.

وقال لي كارسلي مدرب منتخب إنجلترا تحت سن 21 عامًا: “الأمر لا يتعلق بفيروس كورونا، كان سميث روي يشعر بتوعك فقط، لذلك قررنا إعادته إلى آرسنال”.

Jack Clarke is something of a forgotten man at Leeds United.

The winger hasn’t featured once for the Whites in the league this term since being loaned back to the club after securing a £10m switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

Understandably, his lack of appearances has sparked talk of him being recalled once January rolls around, and that has led to speculation that Leeds may look to replace him once he goes back to Spurs.

Indeed, in a recent Q&A session with The Athletic, Phil Hay stated that Clarke being recalled could see United dip into the market.

One supporter asked the journalist which positions Leeds could look to sign a player in once the window opens to which he replied:

“A forward if Nketiah was to be recalled. And possibly a replacement for Jack Clarke when he (surely) goes back to Spurs. But otherwise, I doubt they’ll do much.”

It’s clear that Hay thinks Clarke’s recall is inevitable, and he believes that Leeds could look to replace him if he does go, but United surely don’t need to bring in another winger if they lose Clarke.

The teenager hasn’t played yet in the league this season for a reason, and if anything he’s more of a hindrance than a help as he’s affected Leeds’ loan player quota by being at the club.

Leeds seem more than happy to get by without Clarke being on the pitch during his loan spell, so why would they bat an eyelid if he was recalled by Tottenham in January?

Surely United would be better of conserving their wage bill by not bringing in another player, or by loaning someone in a different position due to the fact they’d have one less loanee on the books.

Leeds shouldn’t be too reactive if Clarke is recalled once the winter window opens.

Trevor Sinclair has hit out at VAR in Manchester City’s defeat to Liverpool, claiming that Trent Alexander-Arnold clearly touched the ball with his hand. The former City man claimed it was a “great save” from the Liverpool defender.

What did he say?

The handball incident had a huge impact on the game as seconds later Fabinho would rocket home Liverpool’s opener. Shortly after, Mohamed Salah would make it two, and City looked all but down and out after 15 minutes gone.

Sinclair explained to talkSPORT: “I can’t understand how they can give the goal after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s handball because it was that same phase in which they scored.

“Manchester City didn’t clear it and get the ball safe until the ball hit the back of the net, so it’s kind of one rule for one, one rule for another. It’s so complicated.

“VAR are there to stop mistakes, clear and obvious mistakes by the referee. I think we’ve all seen the video evidence, it’s definitely handball.

“It was a save! If that was the keeper doing that it would have been an amazing save. Forget about the first handball, because it wasn’t handball anyway.

“It was a great save from Trent Alexander-Arnold and that led to the build-up to the goal.”

No consistency

The video footage does show that Alexander-Arnold touched the ball with his hand. Indeed, the ball came at him fast and perhaps he did not have time to move his arm, however, new rules state that this should still be a handball.

At the start of this campaign, the Premier League released the updated laws regarding handballs in the league. The Premier League stated: “Any goal scored or created with the use of the hand or arm will be disallowed this season even if it is accidental.”

However, as Sinclair alluded to, the ball hit the Liverpool right-back in the build-up to their opening goal. Within seconds, Fabinho would go onto score, which makes Alexander-Arnold’s involvement key to the play.

Earlier this season, City themselves were found in the midst of VAR controversy.

Gabriel Jesus’ late winner was denied by VAR after footage showed he touched the ball before he slotted home. However, the incident looked accidental and seemed awfully familiar to that of Alexander-Arnold’s.

Manchester United fans have hailed Nani on his birthday.

And fans have expressed their admiration for the former United ace, who played for the club between 2007 and 2015; he spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Sporting Lisbon before a permanent move to Fenerbahce.
