What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, the Baggies have set their sights on a winter window swoop for relegated AFC Bournemouth captain Steve Cook with Slaven Bilic’s former club West Ham also in the race.

It’s claimed that the 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer and seems willing to let it run down, opening up the prospect of him leaving for free come to the end of the current campaign.

They also suggest that Cook’s experience and potential availability is of great interest to the Croatian.

Massive lack of ambition

It’s no secret that Albion have struggled defensively in the top-flight, leaking an average of 2.3 goals per game from six outings. No other Premier League side has conceded more so far this season.

However, a move for Cook fails to make much sense, after all the 6 foot 1 colossus was relegated with the Cherries last season – they had the third-worst defensive record and with the long-serving centre-back featuring in 29 matches, he clearly was part of the problem.

His average of 0.8 tackles per game is hardly inspiring nor is his 6.72 average for the campaign, per WhoScored.

Calamitous.

Both Dara O’Shea and Branislav Ivanovic are averaging at least two tackles per game, so he wouldn’t be an improvement on either.

Cook’s former boss Eddie Howe believes he’s a “model of consistency,” also adding: “I think Cookie has had a very good season. He’s been consistent. Like most of our defenders, he’s improved through time, through repetition of work. Technically, I think he’s excellent. Athletically, he has come on this season from last season. And he’s shown a really good mentality every day in his training” (Daily Echo via Tribal Football).

Given that the Baggies were linked to Kristoffer Ajer and Shane Duffy, as per The Athletic’s Steve Madeley, a swoop for the £6.3m-rated defender would be one major lack of ambition for the club.

If they want to stay in the division, then signing someone, who is on £45k-per-week, with a relegation to his name is perhaps not the ideal remedy for their problems.

Dowling must steer well clear this January.

بحسب الصحيفة الشهيرة والصحفي، توني خوانمارتي، عبر حسابه الرسمي على “تويتر” أن تشافي سيصبح مدربًا رسميًا لنادي برشلونة يوم الخميس المقبل”.

وتابع: “سيكون من الصعب أن يظهر تشافي مع برشلونة في مباراة سيلتا فيجو المقبلة في الدوري الإسباني، وذلك لسفر الفريق يوم الجمعة القادمة”.

وأضاف في النهاية: “من المتوقع أن يكون الظهور الأول للإسباني في 20 نوفمبر أي بعد نهاية التوقف الدولي في مباراة إسبانيول في ديربي مدينة برشلونة إلا إذا كانت هناك مفاجآت أخرى”.

أوضح مصدر مسؤول داخل وزارة الشباب والرياضة، الموقف القانوني من تقديم ممدوح عباس رئيس الزمالك الأسبق، وهاني شكري عضو مجلس الإدارة الأسبق، باستشكال من أجل إيقاف تنفيذ حكم محكمة القضاء الإداري بعودة مرتضى منصور إلى منصبه بالقلعة البيضاء.

وأعلنت هيئة القضاء الإداري بمجلس الدولة، أمس الأحد، قبول طعن مرتضى منصور، ومن ثم العودة إلى منصبه بنادي الزملك وحل اللجنة الحالية برئاسة الدكتور حسين لبيب.

ومن جانبه، تقدم ممدوح عباس وهاني شكري بعمل استشكال عن طريق المحامي الخاص به كمال شعيب، من أجل إيقاف تنفيذ حكم عودة مرتضى منصور إلى منصبه.

وتواصل “بطولات” مع مصدر مسؤول داخل وزارة الشباب والرياضة للرد على هذا الأمر، والذي أكد أن القضية لا تخص الثنائي، مُشددًا على أنهما ليس لهما صفة بتقديم أي استشكال لأنهم غير معنيين في قرار العودة، ما يعني أن الحكم القضائي من المفترض أن يتم تنفيذه، في ظل عدم تقديم الوزارة أي طعون عليه.

وأكد المصدر ذاته أن وزارة الرياضة هي الطرف الثاني في قرار المحكمة الإدارية وهي الوحيدة التي تمتلك حق الرد وتقديم طعن على القرار، حتى اللجنة التي تدير النادي في الوقت الحالي ليس لها الأحقية لتقديم استشكال على القرار.

وكان مرتضى منصور قد صرح عقب إصدار الحكم، بأنه اتفق مع وزير الرياضة الدكتور أشرف صبحي، بأنه سيعود لممارسة مهام منصبه عقب مباراة القمة بين الأهلي والزمالك والتي ستجمعهما يوم 5 من نوفمبر المُقبل، ضمن منافسات الجولة الثالثة من بطولة الدوري المصري الممتاز؛ وذلك للحفاظ على تركيز اللاعبين وعدم تشتيتهم.

O lateral-direito Gabriel Proença deixa o Remo com uma avaliação positiva de sua passagem pelo clube. Segundo o lateral, não teve nenhum fator que prejudicou sua passagem no clube. Ele afirma apenas que não teve muitas chances e pretende brigar por mais espaço e pela titularidade no próximo time.

Lots of Everton fans have been left fuming as their beloved statue of Dixie Dean outside Goodison Park was lit up with a red flare, as the Merseyside club have since released an official statement on the matter as per their official website.

As per the statement, the Toffees are assisting the Merseyside Police with enquiries into the incident and have urged anyone that knows anything about what happened to contact them as soon as possible.

On a more positive note, the Blues also confirmed that, following inspection and cleaning of the memorial and the site as a whole, no permanent damage has been done to the statue or the floral tributes laid on the foot of it.

The statue itself represents EFC’s greatest ever goalscorer, as Dean scored a quite incredible 60 goals in just 39 games for them in the 1927/28 season, and during the 1928 calendar year he netted a staggering 85 goals, according to the National Football Museum.

These supporters on Twitter were left fuming upon hearing the news of what happened, as Dean is a club legend and the statue and the memorials were a commemoration of both him and what he represented for Everton:

O programa de sócios do clube foi iniciado em 20 de julho, já com o motel como parceiro – disse Thiago Trindade, da empresa Foco Esportivo.

Ao chegar no Yes Motel, em Vila Velha (ES), o sócio-torcedor da Desportiva apresenta a sua carteirinha de sócio na hora de escolher a suíte. O sócio tinha que responder à pergunta “Qual seu maior prazer sem ser sócio da Desportiva?”. A frase vencedora foi: “É saber que meu time não me deixa na mão”.

A suíte preparada no Yes Motel para a promoção do Dia do Sexo foi temática, com várias referências à Desportiva e ao futebol. Certamente, inspiração para fazer um “gol de placa” debaixo dos lençois não faltou naquela noite.

With the current situation affecting the world taking its toll on football clubs and their finances, the usual summer of big-money signings and huge spending is unlikely to be the case this time around.

And as per the latest report from The Sun, Tottenham are looking to take advantage of the situation by swooping for Wigan starlets Joe Gelhardt and Jensen Weir.

It claims “Spurs have asked about the duo and the administrators running the Latics confirmed they have received an official approach for the 18-year-olds”.

Despite interest from Everton in Gelhardt, Spurs hope that they can instead lure him to north London, and believe that the young striker can be nurtured into the next Harry Kane.

And after hearing about the links to the English duo, Spurs fans flocked to Twitter to share their reactions.

A few supporters took the sarcastic approach with the rumours, and jokingly claimed that they are surely heading back for the good times.

Whilst many of these Spurs fans seem underwhelmed by the prospect of two unproven teenagers being signed this summer, it should be made clear that it doesn’t necessarily mean they will be the only two that come through the door.

Instead, Mourinho’s side should be applauded for continuing to look towards the future of the club, and having already seen Dele Alli turn into a first-team star in north London after arriving from a lower league club in MK Dons, Gelhardt and Weir could well go on to have a similar impact.

A bit of perspective would help.

A couple of weeks ago reports emerged about Leeds potentially signing Yan Couto on loan from Manchester City next season.

Given the fact that one reputable journalist had recently stated that right-back was Leeds’ position of the season, it was somewhat surprising to see that they were apparently in the market for a youngster recently compared to Dani Alves.

However, what makes this even more baffling is the fact that Leeds already have a young right-back ready to breakthrough.

Indeed, Bryce Hosannah has been putting in some eye-opening performances for the U23s this season.

After an academy game that saw both Ian Poveda and Jean-Kevin Augustin make their first appearances in a Leeds shirt, the one player Graham Smyth wanted to wax-lyrical about was Hosannah.

“The player who stood out for me the most is Bryce Hosannah at right-back, he looks a real player,” Smyth said (Inside Elland Road 4/2/20 39:50).

“He’s very good, he’s just been very unfortunate with injuries, he’s had two lengthy long-term layoffs, and that’s meant that his progress towards the first-team has been halted. Obviously he’s been in a few squads, and I think he went to Australia. So he’s one to watch.”

Hosannah seems to be a player of real talent and ability if we’re going off of Smyth’s verdict, and the club seem to have a fair bit of faith in him, awarding him a new contract earlier this season.

Leeds have a clear choice. Sign Couto on loan for a season and see Hosannah drop down the pecking order even further or forget the Brazilian and hand a chance to their own homegrown talent.

Does Couto have a higher ceiling than Hosannah? Probably, he’s already moved for €15m (£13.7m) and has been compared to a former Barcelona star, but Leeds won’t get to reap the rewards of his development if he comes in on loan for a year.

Hosannah may not be as good as Couto, but at least Leeds will get something out of giving him a chance rather than doing Man City a favour that won’t aid the club in the long-run.

In other news, this has to be considered Leeds’ biggest blunder.

Manchester City’s opening Champions League commitment this season was away to Shakhtar Donetsk and it saw their record goal-scorer Sergio Aguero consigned to the bench while Gabriel Jesus started and subsequently scored.

Eyebrows were raised at the team selection. There was no think-of-the-children, shock and horror: just the arching of eyebrows because after all common consensus had it that the European trophy would be City’s main priority this term and also common consensus has Aguero pegged as the club’s best striker. So what gave?

One month later away to Crystal Palace, in a must-win league game, Aguero was once again relegated to sub and once again his like-for-like replacement Jesus found the back of the net. Now football’s knitting circle began to cluck and gossip.

With Pep Guardiola an affirmed admirer of the Brazilian’s pressing and work-rate, perhaps his deployment in key away games signified that Aguero’s long-held monopoly of the first choice striking role was waning. Perhaps – whisper it quietly for more dramatic effect – this was the clearest indication yet that one of the Premier League’s most infamously lethal hit-men was on the decline?

In November City headed to Anfield, a ground that had hardly been a happy hunting ground for them in recent times and the same can be said of Aguero, who had drawn a blank there in seven previous attempts. A failure to score – despite being furnished with chances – had the commentators mulling on his curse with ominous tones.

It also led to some corners of social media writing off a forward who has fired his side to four titles. A legend no less.

Staying with Liverpool the prolific Argentine may repeatedly come unstuck in L4 but in his seven league appearances against the Reds at home he has scored each and every time. He is then cursed at Anfield but a one-man curse at the Etihad.

As for suggestions that his powers are fading it should be remembered that in the past three seasons he stands alone as the only British-based forward to score 30+ goals in each campaign across all competitions. The year before – 2015/16 – he still managed to muster 29 goals despite missing 52 days due to injury.

To put his recent prolificacy into context since Pep Guardiola has been in charge of the Blues his go-to difference-maker has scored 108 goals. The entire Manchester United squad in that period, across every competition, have put away 327. He has individually scored just shy of a third of United’s total tally.

And it’s a haul that is showing no signs of slowing down either.

This season only two strikers have scored more in the Premier League and he has averaged a goal every 82 minutes. His movement off the ball has been mosquito-sharp while his body-language is consistently that of a player highly motivated to wreak havoc. In short, he is approaching a peak that should have the rest fearful.

It is entirely understandable that rival fans look for any conceivable clue that Sergio Aguero is flagging through age.

Unfortunately for them that seems to be a long way off just yet.

وفجر صاحب الـ 43 عامًا مفاجأة من العيار الثقيل في حواره مع شبكة “BeinSports” وعبر عن رأيه في البداية عن موسم يوفنتوس الحالي، وقال: “عانينا كثيرًا وفشلنا في الحفاظ على مستوانا”.

وأضاف: “أمام أفضل الفرق في إيطاليا حققنا نتائج جيدة لكن في المقابل خسرنا الكثير من النقاط أمام فرق أقل مستوى، هذا يعني أن هناك مشكلة في شخصية وقوة يوفنتوس”.

وعن مستقبله: “واضح ومحدد، هذا الموسم ستنتهي هذه التجربة الجميلة والطويلة جدًا مع يوفنتوس”.

وتابع: “إما أن اعتزل أو إذا وجدت فريقًا يحفزني على الاستمرار داخل المستطيل الأخضر أو خوض تجربة جديدة ومختلفة، فسأضع ذلك في الاعتبار”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “اعتقد أنني أعطيت كل شيء ليوفنتوس، ولا يمكنني فعل أكثر من ذلك، لقد وصلت إلى نهاية مسيرتي الكروية ومن الصواب أن أتخذ قرارًا أزيل من خلاله الحرج على الجميع”.
