Anderson considered by Everton %%sep%% %%sitename%%

Some Everton fans have been lauding a transfer update involving a potential swoop for West Ham United star Felipe Anderson.

As per TEAMtalk, the Goodison Park faithful are considering a move for the Brazil international as Carlo Ancelotti is looking for a possible replacement for Bernard, of whom the Italian boss is preparing for his exit from the Merseyside club to AS Roma.

While he has fallen out of favour at the Hammers, having been shipped off on loan to FC Porto for the 2020/21 term, he could still be a good signing for the Toffees.

The 27-year-old has a vast amount of experience playing in the Premier League, scoring 10 goals and making a further eight assists in 63 games over the last three consecutive terms (Transfermarkt).

If Bernard were to go, the winger could be his ideal replacement.

Gerrard’s big call: Glasgow Rangers must unleash Joe Aribo against Kilmarnock after Ianis Hagi struggles

It’s almost hard to believe but Glasgow Rangers are on a 16-game unbeaten run at the moment after a disjointed display against Lech Poznan in the Europa League on Thursday night. Not that you’d necessarily know it, especially when you consider the fact that Steven Gerrard’s side struggled to break down a side who are currently tenth in the Polish top flight.

A couple of culprits were largely at fault, including Scott Arfield and Ryan Kent, but one player in particularly stood out from the rest for all the wrong reasons – Ianis Hagi.

That’s right, the 14-cap Romania international struggled to make much of an impression, which is exactly why Gerrard must unleash Joe Aribo against Kilmarnock.

According to GlasgowLive, Hagi had ‘a few untidy moments on the ball and struggled to influence the game as he did at the weekend’ before he was replaced by Aribo just after the break.

The 24-year-old only had 21 minutes to work with but still tried to make something happen during his brief cameo, which is more than can be said for his teammate. A look at his heatmap reveals a hub of activity on the right wing, including a short burst inside the box.

Aribo, who earns £8,100-a-week according to Salary Sport, missed the home game against Kilmarnock at the start of the season due to injury but could be in contention to start at Rugby Park. In fact, it’s worth remembering the 4-cap Nigeria international started the game against Livingston last weekend.

Recently described as an “exceptional” powerhouse by Charlton boss Lee Bowyer, on talkSPORT, as quoted by The Daily Record, Aribo has already scored two goals in five games in the Scottish Premiership this season so far, via Transfermarkt. By comparison, Hagi has only managed to score once in 11 appearances in the Scottish top flight, as per Transfermarkt.

The beauty of balancing both domestic and European competitions is that it provides Gerrard with the opportunity to rotate his squad, which is exactly what we think he will do against Killie. Whilst Aribo has only recently returned from injury, the attacking midfielder certainly made up for lost time by scoring against Livingston to help secure the victory. When was the last time that Hagi scored? We can’t really remember, either. It’ll be a big call to make, that’s for sure.

Manchester United’s predicted starting XI vs Newcastle United

Manchester United travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United on Saturday in their first Premier League game since the humiliating 6-1 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils have had two weeks to think about the embarrassing result, which has left them just two places above the relegation zone with only one win from their first three league games of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have missed out on his top transfer target Jadon Sancho this summer but Alex Telles, Facundo Pellistri and former Paris Saint-Germain Edinson Cavani all arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day.

However, none of them are expected to start against Steve Bruce’s side.

Here at Football FanCast, we have worked on a predicted XI which sees Solskjaer make four changes to the side that slumped to the disappointing defeat to Spurs before the international break…

The club legend may decide to ring several changes for the trip to Tyneside later tonight.

It’s safe to say that David de Gea has endured a difficult start to the season, which has been compounded by another disappointing display in a 1-0 defeat to Ukraine in the UEFA Nations League. Therefore, it’s likely that Dean Henderson will get the nod between the sticks, whilst Lee Grant will be on the bench.

Harry Maguire may be given a rest after his poor run of form for club and country so far. The club captain received a red card in the 1-0 defeat by Denmark in the Nations League earlier this week. However, he may be forced to start as Solskjaer might not have much choice, as Eric Bailly hardly did himself any favours at all against Spurs.

And this means that Victor Lindelof should slot into place alongside the club captain, with Bailly dropping to the bench. They will most likely be flanked by Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, which means that there is no place for Alex Telles tonight.

Elsewhere, Nemanja Matic makes way for Scott McTominay, whilst Paul Pogba will resume his partnership with Bruno Fernandes.

The Red Devils have been toying with the idea of starting Mason Greenwood as the lone striker up front. And what better way for him to stake his claim as the club’s first-choice centre-forward with Anthony Martial currently suspended?

Much has been made of United’s failure to sign a new right winger. So, Daniel James will get a rare chance to show what he can do on the right wing.

Newcastle United: Jason Burt believes that takeover saga might not be over yet

Jason Burt does not think that the whole takeover saga with Newcastle United is over just yet after he reacted to an official statement made by the Tyneside club on his official Twitter page.

As per the tweet from The Telegraph journalist, Burt claimed: “I knew they were trying to get the takeover back on… it does not sound like it is the end of the matter either.”

Indeed, he was reacting to a statement that was released by the Magpies about the proposed £300m deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) group.

According to the statement, the Toon confirmed that the Premier League had rejected the takeover bid made by the Saudi-led consortium, which consisted of the Middle Eastern crown prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS), his country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), businesswoman/head of PCP Capital Partners Amanda Staveley and the billionaire Reuben brothers, originally from India but now based in London.

Newcastle claimed that this conclusion had been reached despite the club seemingly providing the Premier League and its chief executive Richard Masters with overwhelming evidence and legal opinions that PIF is independent and autonomous of the KSA government.

The statement added that the club and its owners do not accept that the EPL and Masters have acted appropriately in relation to this matter and will be considering all relevant options available to them.

As Burt suggests, perhaps this is not the end of the takeover saga just yet as Newcastle ponder challenging the decision from the EPL.

Whether this will reverse it is another question, but the saga does not seem to be over quite yet.

Newcastle United: Craig Hope reveals how many fans may be allowed in St. James’ Park by October

Craig Hope has revealed how many Newcastle United fans may be allowed in St. James’ Park by the start of October in his latest piece for the Daily Mail.

According to the journalist, it is hoped that significantly more than a third of the 52,000 capacity will be allowed back into the stadium once it is given the approval of the Premier League.

The Tyneside club have also sounded out corporate box holders about returning to the ground on October 3rd, with other teams from the top flight becoming more and more confident that supporters will be allowed back into their stadiums from next month.

Those private boxes will be allowed a capacity of 50 per cent in each room which have been used to house media since the beautiful game returned after being locked down due to the global pandemic outbreak.

The season-ticket holders in the North East may also be put on long-term payment plans in the wider picture to try and get as many fans back in St. James’ park as possible for the new 2020/21 term.

This should come as good news to those members of the Toon Army who are desperate to get back into the stadium to watch their team play and go back to some sort of normality.

Of course, the safety of the NUFC fans remains the top priority, but it will surely come as a much welcomed relief that the supporters may be allowed back into the ground in just over a month’s time.

Newcastle United: Noel Whelan thinks Steve Bruce faces uncertain future depending on outcome of proposed takeover

Former Leeds and Middlesbrough striker Noel Whelan has cast doubt on Steve Bruce’s future as Newcastle manager in comments made to Football Insider.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Bruce admitted that he is “in the dark” over the prospective takeover at St James’ Park but insisted that he would “love to be part of it” if the proposed deal is successful.

However, Whelan believes that the would-be owners will already have big plans in place for the Tyneside club and that a decision will have already been made over the 59-year-old. He said of Bruce:

“He knows his job isn’t concrete, that’s what I think he knows. There are big plans for Newcastle, there’s a lot of exciting names being bandied about players who might come into the club.

“Who wouldn’t want to be the manager taking over a Gareth Bale or Edison Cavani, all these players being tipped to come in. Who wouldn’t think they wouldn’t do very well? I think I’d do very well as well and I’ve got no managerial experience! It’s like going into Harrods with a blank chequebook, it’s fantastic, you’d love it, you’d have great fun.

“I think he knows his job is under pressure, Pochettino’s one that seems to be the favourite and the thing is its kind of out of his hands. The thing is he’s got to finish the season as well as he can possibly can for his own sake because it’s his club that he supports.

“If it’s not going to be him, he’s going to walk away with his head held high. It’s out of his hands, the new owners will make that decision if not already made that decision. I think they will have already realised and made a decision on Steve Bruce’s future.”

It is perhaps fair to say that Bruce has guided the Magpies in a relatively decent season so far, as they sit rather comfortably in 13th place in the Premier League table on 35 points at the moment, eight points above the relegation zone with nine games left for them to play, as per BBC. They are also still in the FA Cup with a home match against Manchester City still left to play, assuming that competition does eventually resume.

In 35 games in all competitions this campaign, Bruce’s side have won 12, drawn 10 and lost 13, scoring 39 goals and conceding 52, according to Transfermarkt.

However, despite his respectable return, Bruce may be asked to make way by the new owners and Whelan believes that his fate may have already been sealed. Granted, the Englishman is technically not their appointment, and so the Saud-led consortium may be looking for a fresh new face to take charge of the Toon in time for the next term – if their bid to take over from current owner Mike Ashley eventually goes through.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho delivers verdict on side’s character after late victory

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking in his side’s post-match press conference, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has hailed his side’s character after their 2-1 victory against Wolves.

What did he say?

After falling to a 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in mid-week, Spurs returned to winning ways under their recently appointed Portuguese boss with a late winner against Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Jan Vertonghen headed home in injury-time to give the north London side all three points, and Mourinho insisted after the game that the result was down to his team’s character rather than their quality.

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

He said (as quoted by Football.London): “It’s one of these victories where quality is not enough. If you are not a team, a real team in the sense of what the word team means it’s impossible. They are very, very good. I said that before the match and I say the same after the match. They are a very good team and very difficult to play against.

“The reality is that a winning team starts with the mentality. The tactical side of it is very important, the quality of the players is also very important but the concept of a team is the base for a team that is capable of winning. To win this match, this match is a perfect example of a match that only a team can win.”

Character

An away game against Wolves after playing in Germany against Bayern Munich would have been seen as an incredibly tricky tie for Spurs. And for much of the game against the Molineux outfit, that proved to be the case. As per Sofascore, they had just nine shots on goal compared to the home side’s 18. But having been pegged back by an Adama Traore goal, they refused to let Nuno Espirito Santo’s men get on top of them, and eventually got their reward thanks to a Vertonghen header.

The win only adds to the belief the Spurs side will be getting with Mourinho in charge. If they were producing the same level of performance but not getting the result at the same time, questions would be asked. Instead, Mourinho can frame the game in a way where he can accentuate the positives of grinding out all three points from a difficult contest.

Meanwhile, Tottenham fans aren’t happy that this ace has made his return to fitness.
