Scorecard
Sri Lanka A edged a high-scoring day at Trent Bridge, chasing down a rain-reduced target of 272 with five wickets to spare to beat Nottinghamshire.Lahiru Thirimane anchored the chase with 70 from 84 balls and there were solid contributions throughout the top-order but it was Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s 29-ball 47, with five fours and two sixes, that sealed the game.It was a solid effort from the tourists against a second-string Nottinghamshire attack the bowlers had had a tough first half to the day as the home side racked up 293 for 9 in their fifty overs.Steven Mullaney, Notts skipper for the day, made 61 and Riki Wessels a boundary-studded 57 at the top of the order but contributions from the tail helped take the hosts to a strong total. No.7 – No. 11 added 101 between them and offspinner Sachithra Serasinghe was the only successful bowler with 3 for 39.

Guyana openers solid in draw

ScorecardHalf-centuries from Trevon Griffith and Shemroy Barrington, and solid contributions from Narsingh Deonarine and Shivnarine Chanderpaul ensured Guyana’s two-day game against the Pakistanis in Georgetown petered out into a draw. Openers Griffith and Barrington made sure the Pakistani bowlers would have to earn their stripes as they added 77 together. Barrington, who eventually fell leg-before to Saeed Ajmal, was the top scorer with 58, while Griffith made 55.Chanderpaul, who was named in the squad for the first Test, and Deonarine backed up the openers with 44 and 40 respectively. Five bowlers picked up wickets, with only Umar Gul missing out. Ajmal was the most successful, with figures of 2 for 41 from 15 overs.

Adelaide Oval could lose Sheffield Shield games

South Australia could host Sheffield Shield matches away from Adelaide Oval for the first time, if the SACA gets the green light from its members for plans to redevelop the venue and share it with AFL clubs

ESPNcricinfo staff29-Apr-2011South Australia could host Sheffield Shield matches away from Adelaide Oval for the first time, if the SACA gets the green light from its members for plans to redevelop the venue and share it with AFL clubs. The SACA chairman Ian McLachlan confirmed Glenelg Oval was being prepared as a secondary venue, like the Junction Oval in Melbourne.”We would like to be playing all Shield matches here (Adelaide Oval) but I can’t guarantee all Shield matches here,” McLachlan told the . “We have had Glenelg organised as a No. 2 ground.”What they have found in other states is that opening up the MCG for a Shield match is not necessarily the best thing to do; so they have been playing them in other places. In Sydney, they play in front of quite nice crowds in other parts. We have looked at Shield matches in Mount Gambier, matches in other parts of the state.”South Australia have never held a Sheffield Shield match anywhere but the Adelaide Oval, and the only first-class match they have ever hosted away from the venue was against Lord Hawke’s XI at Unley Oval in 1903. The state team played two one-day games at Football Park, the main AFL venue in Adelaide, in 1986-87, but since then they have not strayed from Adelaide Oval.SACA members will vote on the proposed redevelopment at a special general meeting on Monday. The former SACA chief executive Mike Deare this week urged members to reject the plans, as he believed the oval was being undervalued and cricket would lose out to football in the joint deal.

Hauritz faces shoulder surgery

Nathan Hauritz’s World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread with it confirmed he would undergo surgery after dislocating his right shoulder at Hobart. He now faces a nervous few weeks before finding out whether he’ll make the global one-day tournament. However, there was better news for Shaun Tait who has been cleared of serious injury but Mitchell Johnson won’t be available for the third ODI against England at the SCG.Hauritz was helped off the field in severe pain and underwent further scans on Saturday. They revealed ‘moderate disruption’ to his shoulder and it has been decided surgery is required although the medical staff remain hopeful over his World Cup chances.”Nathan Hauritz will have arthroscopic surgery of his shoulder joint in Melbourne,” Cricket Australia physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said. “This is a small procedure that we hope will give him the best opportunity to be available for the World Cup.”He will then have a period of intense rehabilitation and attempt to return to training in the coming weeks if we feel this is appropriate. His availability for the World Cup will depend on his progress through this rehabilitation.”Xavier Doherty, the left-arm spinner, had already been called up to Australia’s squad for the next two matches against England and would replace Hauritz at the World Cup. At least the hosts have had good news regarding Tait after he left the field five balls into his sixth over at Hobart with pain in his thigh. He hasn’t yet been ruled out of Sunday’s match at the SCG although it would be a major risk to play him.”Shaun complained of some left upper thigh pain,” Kountouris said. “As a precaution he was advised to stop bowling and leave the field. He had scans this afternoon which have cleared him of any new and significant damage. He will be assessed over the next 12 hours to determine his management and availability for tomorrow’s match and the remainder of this series.”Johnson, meanwhile, has recovered from the throat infection which kept him out of the Hobart match but the medical staff don’t feel he has had enough time to prepare for Sunday’s clash. Peter Siddle, overlooked for the World Cup, has been added to the squad and will link up after playing Saturday’s Big Bash match against New South Wales at the MCG.

West Ham gifted Lingard ‘advantage’

West Ham United and manager David Moyes have been gifted an ‘advantage’ in the race to sign Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard this summer, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Moyes eyes Lingard move…

The Premier League ace has been on Moyes’ transfer radar for the better part of a year with reports first emerging in 2021 that West Ham wanted to make Lingard’s loan deal a permanent one.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-newest-updates/” title=”West Ham newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

However, GSB’s efforts to prise away the England international were in vain, with Lingard electing to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his future under ex-boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Following his lack of game time, a January exit for Moyes’ long-term target was on the cards and West Ham even made late attempts to seal his London Stadium return in the winter.

The Irons couldn’t finalise his capture yet again, but as they reportedly go for third time lucky, Lingard’s soon-to-be free agent status could make his signing that bit less complicated.

The Latest: O’Rourke makes promising Lingard claim…

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Pete O’Rourke claims that West Ham have one ‘advantage’ in the race for United’s departing ace.

He also believes that Hammers supporters would certainly ‘encourage’ a move for Lingard going by his brilliant spell in east London last year.

When asked if the 29-year-old’s familiarity with Moyes at West Ham will be a factor, O’Rourke explained: “I think you’ve got to say that it gives them an advantage; they both know each other. Jesse Lingard was such a big fans’ favourite during his loan spell at West Ham, so the fans would definitely encourage that move.”

The Verdict: Get it done?

While the Europa League semi-finalists are arguable front-runners for Lingard, does that mean West Ham should be competing for his signature yet again this summer?

Moyes, as per reliable reports, is targeting a central defender, new midfielder, striker and potential reserve keeper to boost his 2022/2023 ranks.

Lingard is a player of proven top flight quality and experienced England international who has already shined under the Scotsman at West Ham.

The fact he could join for zero cost makes this an arguable no-brainer, even despite the frustrating sagas of West Ham’s last two efforts to sign him.

Moyes, by saving transfer funds on a swoop for Lingard, could then spend big on trying to seal world class central defensive and forward signings.

Called a would-be ‘massive signing’ for West Ham by former England keeper Paul Robinson, we believe that remains the case.

Legendary West Indian batsman Brian Lara is to deliver the keynote address as guest of honour at Zimbabwe’s CBZ Bank Cricket Awards in Harare on September 3. The awards honour the men and women who have made a particularly impressive contribution to cricket in the country over the past year.”We are honoured that a cricket personality like Brian Lara has agreed to come and be with us on the day that we will honour the stars of Zimbabwe Cricket,” said Zimbabwe Cricket’s managing director Ozias Bvute. “If you have to put it in a football context, it’s like Pelé agreeing to come and be the guest of honour at our Soccer Stars of the Year.”We are humbled by Lara’s decision to come here because to us it means a lot more than him gracing the occasion but also shows that he is happy to be a partner of Zimbabwe Cricket. For us that is very important in our quest to get back to where we believe we belong among the Test playing nations of this world and you can’t get a better player, as a model Test cricketer for your players, than Brian Lara.”The ceremony includes awards in the categories of Best Schools Cricketer, Batsman, Bowler and Female Cricketer of the Year, as well as paying tribute to the country’s best umpire, scorer, groundsman, coach and administrator, among a host of other prizes.

Forrest ruled out of Celtic clash

Celtic midfielder James Forrest will miss his side’s Scottish Premiership clash with St Johnstone, manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.

The Lowdown: Hoops host St Johnstone

The Hoops return to action on Saturday afternoon, following last weekend’s unforgettable 2-1 victory away to bitter rivals Rangers.

The win took Celtic six points clear of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side and they welcome St Johnstone to Parkhead on Saturday afternoon, looking to further strengthen their grip on the title.

Postecoglou almost has a clean bill of health for the game, barring one standout absentee.

The Latest: Forrest ruled out

Speaking to the media before Saturday’s game [via The Celtic Way], the manager confirmed that Forrest would again be absent through injury:

“Yeah, James is probably another week we’re hoping. He’s got closer but he’s the only one that’s not really available for tomorrow.”

Forrest has four goals and four assists in 28 appearances in all competitions this season.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/key-latest-celtic-updates/” title=”Key latest Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Blow for Ange’s squad depth

With all due respect to Forrest, who has been a wonderful servant for Celtic, the Hoops should be able to get past St Johnstone without requiring his services, given their 11th-placed position.

They did exactly that at Rangers last weekend, producing an impressive performance, and they have got by without the 30-year-old since his last appearance in mid-March.

However, Forrest’s title-winning experience in the final weeks of the season could still be pivotal, with nine league titles and six Scottish Cups standing him in good stead.

Without the 30 year-old, who is the only out and out right-midfielder in Ange’s squad, the manager will need to rely on wingers like Liel Abada to fill in and do their defensive duties with diligence.

Tottenham plotting Keane Lewis-Potter bid

According to a report by Hull Live, there has been a transfer development out of Tottenham Hotspur involving Hull City forward Keane Lewis-Potter as the Lilywhites attempt multiple new signings.

The Lowdown: Paratici at work…

As per reliable sources, Tottenham could be set for a ‘frantic’ end to the January transfer window, as Spurs chief Fabio Paratici and manager Antonio Conte work on multiple moves.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news-2/” title=”Tottenham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Despite looking set to miss out on long-time winter target Adama Traore, who is currently in talks with Barcelona, Spurs are believed to be on the verge of landing Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, with growing optimism they could also sign FC Porto star Luis Diaz after a bid.

They’re also working on multiple exits as midfielder Tanguy Ndombele remains in talks with Paris-Saint Germain, while the likes of Dele Alli could also be on the move (Sky Sports).

The Latest: Tottenham ‘preparing big-money’ transfer…

As per Hull Live, it appears Spurs aren’t done there in the last hurdle. As stated in the website’s headline, Tottenham are ‘preparing a big-money transfer’ for Lewis-Potter, with the Lilywhites and Paratici ‘understood to be keen on making a bid’.

According to this report, Conte has even sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old in action, with the Italian personally keen on his potential signing.

Their ‘expected’ offer will apparently include the option to loan Lewis-Potter back to the MKM Stadium for the rest of 2021/22.

The Verdict: Get it done…

The bright Championship starlet is certainly one to watch, and the fact that Hull could demand just £14m should be a real incentive for Spurs to make a last-gasp move.

Lewis-Potter was a key player in helping the Tigers achieve promotion back to England’s second tier last season, scoring 13 goals and setting up six others in 43 League One appearances. A regular under former Hull boss Grant McCann, he has continued that form into this season, with six goals and four assists in all competitions halfway through the current campaign (Transfermarkt).

His former manager even labelled the attacker a ‘special talent’, and the 20-year-old’s numbers over the last two years back up this statement.

Lewis-Potter could also help to fill Tottenham’s homegrown quota as the reasons to move far outweigh any doubts.
