تحدث مدرب فريق ليفربول يورجن كلوب عن البطاقة الحمراء التي حصل عليها اللاعب كورتيس جونز، خلال مشاركته مع منتخب إنجلترا للشباب في فترة التوقف الدولي الشهر الماضي.

وتواجد كورتيس جونز مع منتخب إنجلترا للشباب في بطولة كأس الأمم الأوروبية تحت سن 21 عامًا.

وودعت إنجلترا البطولة رغم فوزها على كرواتيا بهدفين مقابل هدف، في الجولة الأخيرة من دور المجموعات.

وجاء خروج إنجلترا من البطولة، بسبب فارق الأهداف مع كرواتيا.

وعقب المباراة، دخل كورتيس جونز في مشاجرة مع لاعبي كرواتيا خلال احتفالهم بالتأهل إلى الدور القادم من البطولة، ليحصل على بطاقة حمراء.

وعن ذلك، قال كلوب: “سأتحدث مع كورتيس بالطبع، أنت لا تريد رؤية مثل هذه الأشياء في الملعب”.

وأضاف في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “مترو” الإنجليزية: “نحن نعلم ما تعنيه لحظة خسارة المباراة، ومن الواضح أن ذلك يعني الكثير للأولاد، ويعني الكثير جدًا بشكل خاص لـ جونز”.

وواصل: “لقد قدم جونز مباراة جيدة حقًا، ربما كان أفضل لاعب”.

وتابع: “إذا لم يفعل الخصم أي شيء، فأنا متأكد من أن جونز لم يكن ليظهر مثل هذا رد الفعل، أو يقدم بعض الكلمات أو الإشارات أو أي شيء آخر، ولكن لا يزال لم يتصرف بشكل صحيح في تلك اللحظة، هو يعرف ذلك”.

واستكمل: “إذا سألت جونز إذا كان سيفعل ذلك مرة أخرى، سيقول لك لا، ولكنه فعله، لكن هذا كل شيء، على حد علمي لم يكن الأمر بهذا السوء”.

واختتم: “لا بأس، سأتحدث معه، الشيء الوحيد الذي تفعله حيال الأخطاء التي ترتكبها في الحياة هو التعلم منها وهو سيفعل ذلك”.

Some Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to discuss their former striker Romelu Lukaku, after the forward found the back of the net in the Milan derby between Inter and AC Milan.

The Red Devils sold the Belgium international back in the summer for a fee of £74m, and Lukaku has shone since teaming up with Antonio Conte at the San Siro.

The 26-year-old has three goals in just four Serie A appearances for the Italian giants, and while Marcus Rashford has struggled of late – two of his three league goals this term have been penalties, whereas he has also missed another spot-kick against Crystal Palace – Lukaku’s form has got the United fans on Twitter talking.

One supporter said that the former Chelsea man was the best striker at the club, while another asked someone to remind him why the Premier League giants sold Lukaku.

Jordan Henderson took to Instagram after the game, and his message was loud and clear.

He thanked the fans for their support, but he immediately went on to say that there were plenty of things to improve on.

It’s hard to disagree with Henderson. Conceding three goals at home against the team placed 120th in the FIFA world rankings simply isn’t good enough.

If Gareth Southgate’s side are to lift any silverware in the coming years, they will need players like Henderson in the squad.

His attitude of never resting on his laurels and always looking to improve is a fantastic thing to have in the camp, and after the win on Tuesday he was quickly looking at how the team’s performance could have been better, rather than enjoying the three points.

Barcelona’s day suddenly got a lot worse and for once, it’s not about Neymar Junior.

RAC1, usually a really reliable source for all things Barcelona, came out with news that Lionel Messi’s injury has taken a turn for the worse and that the Blaugrana’s star player will be out for longer than expected – potentially another month.

Messi has already missed the first two clashes against Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis but was recovering well and everything pointed towards a quick return to action.

Still, if this news is to be believed, we won’t be seeing the Argentine on the pitch for a while longer.

And it’s safe to say that the news left most of the Barcelona fans in disbelief as they were all looking forward to seeing the little magician play after a while out. Messi has been carrying this injury since he returned back from his holiday.

Lots of QPR fans have taken to Twitter to point the finger at Yoann Barbet once again, after the Frenchman’s alarming lack of awareness saw Portsmouth score a simple second goal in their 2-0 Carabao Cup win.

The R’s supporters on Twitter have already slammed the summer signing from Brentford for his dismal performance in the recent 3-1 loss to Swansea, and they have wasted no time in hurling criticism at the 26-year-old once again after a quite shocking piece of defending against Pompey – if you can even call it defending, that is.

Marcus Harness had an easy tap in to score Portsmouth’s second goal in just four minutes as the 6ft 2 defender was caught jogging back whilst watching the ball, a mistake – or lack of desire depending on your interpretation – that allowed Harness to easily sneak into the box and slot home with ease.

It was a quite shocking lack of quality from a professional footballer which would even have drawn criticism in Sunday League football, let alone for a Championship side in the Carabao Cup.

Speaking to Football Insider, Danny Mills has made the bold claim that one of Liam Cooper or Pontus Jansson could potentially be dropped ahead of the start of the season following the signing of Ben White.

Although the quotes could be taken negatively as it alludes to Leeds leaving a key player out, there are still plenty of positives to be found.

What’s been said then?

The former England international claimed that one of Leeds’ centre-backs could be in jeopardy of losing their spot.

“There will be real competition for places now,” he said. “You could see Jansson and White starting together in central defence, or White and Cooper,” Mills told Football Insider,

“You need that competition. If there’s no competition for places, even the best can get complacent. We saw last season that Leeds were short in that position, and Kalvin Phillips had to drop back for a few months when Cooper was injured.

“Cooper is a good, steady player. He had some very good performances last season and the odd mistake here and there. He has improved a lot since he joined Leeds, but you have to keep improving every season. If you stand still, you go backwards.

“He could easily start the season on the sidelines, especially if he’s not performing to the level Bielsa wants in training.”

Key positive

Jansson and Cooper both arguably had the best seasons of their career last campaign as they earnt spots in the PFA Championship Team of the Year, but with more competition for their spot this term they may be forced to up their game even further.

Villa to make new bid for Webster

Thursday’s print edition of The Daily Mirror (June 27, page 65) reported that Aston Villa will make an improved bid for Bristol City’s Adam Webster. Sky Sports had reported on Wednesday that the Villans had made a £12m bid for the central defender, with other reports stating that Bristol are holding out for £30m.

Leeds reject Phillips approach

Leeds have knocked back an approach from Aston Villa for midfielder Kalvin Phillips according to Football Insider. The Whites have made it clear Phillips is not for sale as they look to hold onto him at all costs this summer.

With the League One season all done and dusted, attention can now all turn to the summer transfer window, and for Portsmouth, they are likely to be one of the more busier sides in the market.

Kenny Jackett’s side came close to an automatic promotion spot in the league and will likely be favourites next season to seal one of these positions in the table, but to do that, Portsmouth have to play the transfer market well, bringing in players that push the south coast side over the finish line whilst trying to retain the stars that flourished, and one of these names is Matt Clarke.

The defender has continued his incredible rise to prominence with another outstanding season with Pompey, and his performances have caught the eye of Premier League side Brighton, who according to the Portsmouth News are the frontrunner for Clarke this summer.

The 22-year-old, who is valued at £180,000 on Transfermarkt, no doubt has the potential to one day play in the Premier League, but at this stage in his career, a move to the English top flight might be too soon for Clarke.

Clarke will barely feature for a team that bolsters one of the better defences in the bottom half of the Premier League teams, meaning unless the former Ipswich academy product goes out on loan, the defender could miss a season or two of first-team football.

The money would be helpful for Portsmouth, but for both club and player, it will be best if Clarke remains with the League One side for another season.
