+ Confira e simule a tabela do Campeonato Brasileiro

– A principal característica do Marlon no Atlético é a liderança técnica e comportamental.

Ninguém teve a consistência dele nesses três anos – concluiu.

'Sore loser' Healy eager for WBBL glory

Sydney Sixers will be favourites in Saturday’s final after a huge bounce-back season

AAP23-Nov-2022Despite a career spanning three decades, Alyssa Healy still struggles with handling defeat.”I can confirm I don’t like losing,” she said. “I’m a bit of a sore loser.”Fresh off her announcement as Australia’s T20 captain to tour India in December, Healy said Sydney Sixers are refreshed and ready for a return to WBBL glory after last season’s bottom-of-the-table finish.”After a disappointing couple of years, we’re back where we feel like we should be and playing some really good cricket,” she said.Sixers will enter this week’s finals as firm favourites to win their third crown, earning hosting rights to Saturday’s decider after topping the table.”Sunday was amazing to see all the people on the hill [at North Sydney Oval],” Healy said. “So that’s really buoyed us and the fact that we can play at home I think is a huge advantage as well.”Long-regarded as the competition’s marquee club, Sixers missed the past three finals series and struggled under last season’s Covid-19 restrictions.”It was challenging at times,” Healy reflected. “Especially when players were struggling off the field as well. Covid probably took its toll and being away in hubs and bubbles and not being able to come home was definitely a big factor.”But their bounce back under new coach and England superstar Charlotte Edwards has been immense.Their 11 wins this summer is the most of any club in a home-and-away season and they were barely challenged outside of a last-ball loss to Adelaide and a Beth Mooney masterclass in Perth.”You look at things from last year and I don’t think anyone would have disputed that we would potentially be in contention for finals,” allrounder Erin Burns said.  “But things didn’t click. I don’t think there is any one thing you can put it down to.”Burns feels the big point of difference has been Edwards. She took over from long-time mentor Ben Sawyer earlier this year after the New Zealand head coach led the Sixers to their first two titles in 2016-17 and 2017-18.”Everyone is just playing with more freedom [this year],” Burns said. “Charlotte definitely tries to instil that in the team. She really backs our skills.”

Chance for Levy to recoup £40m+ on Tottenham star who Postecoglou may drop

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has been handed a potential opportunity to recoup over £40 million on an out-of-form player, amid reports that manager Ange Postecoglou could soon demote him.

Spurs are aiming to secure three consecutive Premier League wins for the first time this season against Ipswich Town on Saturday, with Postecoglou’s side travelling to Portman Road on their best run of league form for months.

Wins over Brentford and Man United sealed back-to-back victories for the Lilywhites for the first time since September last year, but Kieran McKenna’s relegation-threatened hosts will be a tough task for Spurs as they look to solidify their Premier League status.

The returns of key squad members proved vital during their 1-0 win at home to United last Sunday, with James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert all playing a part after coming back from injury, while Destiny Udogie was fit enough for a place on the bench as an unused substitute.

However, there have been some concerns surrounding the form of Spurs captain Son Heung-min, who hasn’t delivered often enough during what has been a truly torrid last two months for the team at N17.

There are reports that Postecoglou could even drop Son from his Tottenham starting line-up, once Dominic Solanke returns from injury, as it would allow the Australian to deploy new signing Mathys Tel out wide in his stead.

Son has bagged just one goal and an assist in the top flight since late December, attracting some criticism for his displays as a result, with pundit Jamie O’Hara regularly questioning the 32-year-old’s suitability to captain the side.

“When you look at Tottenham’s two recent games, this was the moment to show that they could compete. Unfortunately, they’ve shown the complete opposite. There’s no fight, no heart, no desire, and certainly no leadership,” O’Hara said recently, via Tottenham News.

“For me, that lack of leadership comes from the manager and the captain. I hate to say it, but Son Heung-Min is not the right captain for this team anymore. A captain should be someone who can lead from the front, someone who can grab the team by the scruff of the neck and get the team out of a hole.

“Son isn’t that, it’s time to take the captaincy off him and give it to someone else.”

Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal prepared to pay £41 million for Son from Tottenham

According to CaughtOffside, after Levy and co elected to trigger the one-year extension clause in his contract, keeping him at the club until 2026, it is believed Tottenham now have a chance to recoup significant money on the South Korean star.

Indeed, Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad are now prepared to pay £41 million to sign Son from Tottenham, which comes as a very tempting fee considering he has just another season on his deal at Hotspur Way, not to mention Son has now entered his twilight years.

However, as things stand, Spurs are actually in favour of keeping the former Bayer Leverkusen star, with both the club and player open to discussing a contract extension beyond next season.

That being said, with this Saudi interest emerging, £41 million is surely a figure which will spark some debate within the Tottenham corridors at least.

Romano: Man Utd bid £20m+ to sign versatile star keen on Old Trafford move

Manchester United have made a bid worth more than £20m to sign a versatile new player for Ruben Amorim, and he’s keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Man Utd transfer rumours

The Red Devils and INOES are yet to make a marquee first-team signing in 2025, despite there being plenty of rumours regarding potential incomings.

Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande has been mooted as a target with Amorim requesting the services of the centre-back and those in Manchester reportedly preparing a £50m+ offer. Elsewhere, United have “expressed concrete interest” in Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who was previously on the books of Manchester City.

However, there are also a plethora of stars who could depart Old Trafford before the February 3 deadline. Marcus Rashford continues to be linked with numerous clubs across Europe, with his preferred destination being a move to Barcelona.

Antony looks set to be closing in on a loan move to Real Betis, whereas Alejandro Garnacho is of permanent interest to Serie A side Napoli. Tyrell Malacia is another who could depart in the coming days, with left-back continuing to be a problem area at Old Trafford.

Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester as INEOS look to solve that area of the pitch in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, and a new update has now emerged.

Man Utd make offer to sign Patrick Dorgu

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Man Utd have sent a formal bid to sign Dorgu from Lecce. The financial package sent by the Red Devils to the Serie A side was worth €27m (£22.8m) plus add-ons, however, that has seemingly been rejected by Lecce.

Dorgu is also wanted by Napoli ahead of the summer, however, the player is keen on a move to Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old, already a four-cap Denmark international, can play as a left-back, left midfielder or even as a right winger, so would give Amorim a versatile option should he move to Manchester.

As per Transfermarkt, Dorgu’s market value has rocketed from €400,000 to a career-high €20m in the space of 18 months, so he appears to be a star in the making.

He’s made more than 50 senior appearances for Lecce after joining in 2023 from FC Nordsjaelland, the majority of which have come as a left-back and was hailed by international teammate Joachim Andersen, who said:

“Dorgu is an offensive back with lots of power and speed. He is left-footed, which helps us a lot. We also have VK (Victor Kristiansen), who is left-footed, but Dorgu is a bit more offensive.

“I see they [Dorgu and Morten Frendrup] have a lot of energy. They have a lot of audacity, and they are slightly different types of players than we have seen in the national team in the last several years.”

As well as Idah: Celtic flop fluffed his big chance to impress

Celtic extended their unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership with their 15th win in 17 matches by beating Motherwell 4-0 at Parkhead on Boxing Day.

A first-half penalty from Arne Engels gave the hosts a narrow lead, before Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn, and Reo Hatate all scored in the second 45 to secure all three points.

Brendan Rodgers will surely be delighted with yet another win and another clean sheet for Kasper Schmeichel, who did not have a save to make in the match.

However, it was not a perfect performance from the Hoops, who needed a penalty to go into the break ahead, and one player who did not take their chance to impress was Adam Idah.

Adam Idah's performance against Motherwell

The Ireland international was named in the starting line-up for just the sixth time this season in the Premiership, with Kyogo Furuhashi dropped to the bench after the 0-0 draw at Tannadice Park against Dundee United.

Unfortunately, though, the former Norwich City centre-forward did not catch the eye in the right way, as he struggled – particularly out of possession. Idah lost 100% (4/4) of his duels and this shows that Motherwell players found it too easy to get the better of him in physical contests.

Adam Idah

The 6 foot 3 marksman also failed to find the back of the net with any of his three shot attempts, registering one on target, and failed with his only attempted dribble.

Idah did create one ‘big chance’ for the team, to his credit, but his overall performance was not enough to put a marker down and convince Rodgers that he should be the man moving forward.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast's Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

As well as the Irishman, another Celtic player who failed to make the most of their opportunity to impress from the start was central midfielder Paulo Bernardo.

Paulo Bernardo's performance in numbers

The Portuguese maestro fluffed his chance to put a marker down, like Idah, to nail down a regular place in the starting line-up, as he has only started eight of his 16 appearances in the division.

Bernardo played the opening 63 minutes of the match and was not directly involved in any of the goals, before being taken off for Reo Hatate – who came on to score.

His midfield competitor came on to score the fourth goal and won more duels (two) than the ex-Benfica starlet managed (one) in his time on the pitch.

As you can see in the table above, Bernardo did little to help the team out of possession, losing 88% of his duels and committing four fouls, as he struggled to deal with the physicality of the match, much like Idah.

The summer signing needed to make up for that with his quality in possession, but failed to do so. Zero shots and zero ‘big chances’ created paints a picture of his performance on the day – uneventful.

Celtic pushing to agree terms with young gem who is wanted by English clubs

As well as looking to bring in new players this month, Celtic are pushing to agree fresh terms with a young talent at Parkhead who is being pursued by multiple English sides, according to a reliable journalist.

Celtic transfer news

The Hoops were held to a surprising 3-3 draw at Dundee on Tuesday evening but remain in comfortable control at the top of the Scottish Premiership, as they are 16 points clear, albeit Rangers have a game in hand.

Worse than Idah: Rodgers must drop Celtic ace after "weak" performance

The Celtic defender endured a torrid evening against Dundee on Tuesday.

3 ByDan Emery Jan 15, 2025

Celtic are yet to conclude any transfer business this month, but it appears as though Brendan Rodgers is keen to add to his squad, as he won’t want them resting on their laurels. One player who could arrive this month is Sarpsborg winger Sondre Orjasaeter, as the Scottish side are in talks over a potential transfer. His arrival would strengthen Celtic’s wide areas, a position Rodgers wants to target, but they face competition to get this deal over the line as teams from France and Italy are also interested.

Meanwhile, an exit could be on the cards for one Celtic player this month, as left-back Greg Taylor is wanted by Championship duo Hull City and Queens Park Rangers. The defender is out of contract in the summer, and while Celtic continue to negotiate over a new deal, the Championship pair have made him a transfer target this month.

Taylor’s positive relationship with Rodgers means he would be happy to stay at the club, but he hasn’t ruled out moving on, depending on what is offered to him.

Celtic pushing to agree terms with young gem

Taylor is not the only player the Hoops are looking to tie down to a new contract, as Fabrizio Romano reports that Celtic are pushing Daniel Cummings to stay and sign a new contract amid interest from West Ham United and Brighton.

The 18-year-old is a product of Celtic’s academy, playing for their youth team, under-18s, and now their B team. Cummings is a centre forward for the Hoops and has been in sensational form this season, scoring 24 goals in 24 games in all competitions at that level.

Last season was an impressive campaign for the young forward, but he has taken his game to a new level, and that has now put him on the radar of some high-profile clubs. Both West Ham and Brighton are keen on signing Cummings, as he is out of contract in the summer.

However, Celtic are not going to let the player go that easily, as they are pushing for him to remain at Celtic Park and sign a new contract. Cummings has yet to play for Celtic’s first team, but he did appear on the bench for their game against Ross County on Saturday. It would be expected that he would want some assurances about first-team minutes before signing a new contract with the Scottish champions, and if he doesn’t get it, a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.

'Emotional' Azhar Ali set to play his first Test in hometown Lahore

Lahore will host a Test for the first time since the format returned to Pakistan in 2019

“My family, my friends will all be at the ground. It’s a very emotional moment for me”•AFP/Getty Images

Nearly 12 years into his international career, 93 Tests, almost 7000 runs and 19 hundreds to the good, Azhar Ali is finally coming home.On Monday, when he steps out on the field at the Gaddafi Stadium against Australia, Azhar will be playing his first Test on what is his home ground. The final Test of the series, without a result so far, is the first in the city of Pakistan’s headquarters since Tests returned to the country in late 2019. Pakistan have played Tests in Karachi and Rawalpindi since then.”It’s a really emotional feeling,” Azhar told the PCB website. “When you’re young, Gaddafi Stadium is such an iconic venue. Whenever we would go past it, I would think I really want to play at this ground.”I’ve played at first-class level here, of course, but since my Test debut all our cricket has been outside Pakistan. At one time, we felt like we might never play a Test in Pakistan again. But finally, we have a chance – we waited so long to play in Pakistan, and then after returning have had to wait longer to play in Lahore.”

Although it is everyone’s first Test in Lahore, Azhar will cherish it more than most in the side. Now in the final stages of his career, he has been an essential part of the Misbah-ul-Haq era in which all of Pakistan’s finest moments came outside the country.Azhar’s highest Test score – the triple-hundred against West Indies – was made in a day-night Test in Dubai, an occasion lacking in any atmosphere whatsoever.Related

The ungainly, unexciting, unappreciated world of Azhar Ali

Is Abdullah Shafique the real deal?

“My triple-century, when I made it, it was such a big thing for me and you wave your bat around to all the crowd to celebrate them and appreciate them. When I started doing that there, I waved to one stand where about a hundred people were sitting. Then I turned around to the other stands and there was no one else there.”In Pindi and Karachi, when we have gotten centuries, it has been a totally different feeling, the acknowledgment that we get, the support, the adulation. For so long we didn’t get that. And for youngsters coming through and for those in the team, it is a real motivation.”Azhar began this series well, with a 185 in Rawalpindi that meant he is now Pakistan’s third-most prolific run-scorer against Australia. Karachi didn’t go quite as well though the Gaddafi Stadium will be an occasion unlike any other.”It’s a real happy occasion for me,” he said. “After such a long career, I’m going to play a Test at my home ground. My family, my friends will all be at the ground. It’s a very emotional moment for me.”It’s just a really different feeling. I saw when we played cricket in Pakistan again, of course we had an idea that we missed it but only after playing did we realise how many things we missed. Our achievements, our performances, they never got highlighted as much before and we also didn’t enjoy it as much.”

Babar's 196 and Rizwan's hundred earn Pakistan epic draw

Babar Azam thwarted Australia with an extraordinary 196 as a gutsy Pakistan survived a dramatic late collapse to remarkably draw the second Test after batting through 171.4 overs to ensure the historic series remained deadlocked.Against all the odds, Pakistan finished their marathon second innings at 443 for 7 with Mohammad Rizwan unbeaten on 104 and Nauman Ali on 0 off 18 balls. Pakistan fell short of a record run chase by 63 runs, but in getting through they achieved the second most overs survived in the fourth innings behind the timeless Test between South Africa and England in Durban in 1939.Having endured a two-year century drought, Babar made up for lost time with his highest Test score and the highest fourth-innings score by a captain in Test history. Just as the match was petering out to a draw, there was a late twist in the final hour when Babar’s 425-ball epic ended when he prodded to bat-pad offspinner Nathan Lyon. Finally getting reward for his unwavering bowling, Lyon then picked up Faheem Ashraf on the next ball as Australia’s spirits lifted ahead of the third new ball. He didn’t claim a hat-trick but Lyon removed Sajid Khan shortly after and Australia suddenly needed just three wickets with eight overs left.In a nerve-jangling passage, Australia had seven fielders around the bat for the bowling of Lyon and debutant Mitchell Swepson, who almost had the big wicket of Rizwan with 19 balls left only for Usman Khawaja to drop a low chance at extra cover. It proved to be Australia’s last chance with Rizwan notching his century in the penultimate over and then keeping Swepson at bay in the final over as Pakistan conjured the improbable.A weary Australia were gutted for the fourth time in just over a year they failed to bowl out their opponent in the fourth innings. But Lyon, who endured criticism during those matches, produced a Herculean effort as did captain Pat Cummins.Swepson, Australia’s first specialist legspinner since Bryce McGain in 2009, was inconsistent but looked threatening at times in an encouraging debut. For a short while, Nathan Lyon’s heroics threatened to undo Pakistan’s hard work•AFP/Getty Images

But with their late rally falling short, it was a disappointment for Australia, who had dominated most of the match and declared both their innings in a Test in Asia for just the second time. After routing Pakistan for just 148 off 53 overs in the first innings, Australia appeared on course for victory but they were denied by Babar, who produced an innings for the ages.Babar came to the crease with Pakistan teetering at 21 for 2 just after lunch on day four as the hosts appeared to be headed for a crushing defeat in their fortress. But they incredibly lost just two wickets over the next 137 overs in shades of their batting dominance in Rawalpindi. The backbone of Pakistan’s defiance was Babar’s 228-run partnership with opener Abdullah Shafique, who made 96, as the pair batted through almost three sessions. Babar also combined with Rizwan for a century partnership to ensure Pakistan held on for a famous draw. With oppressive conditions in Karachi throughout the match, the pitch was marked by widening cracks in a contrast to the docile Rawalpindi deck amid a stale first Test draw. There was swing, sharp turn and variable bounce at times earlier in the match, but the pitch did not significantly deteriorate although occasionally played tricks late on day five. After tea, with Babar and Rizwan well set, it appeared Pakistan would make a bold attempt at mowing down the record chase as they scored 20 runs off the first two overs. But with the ball getting old and not coming onto the bat, Pakistan decided the gamble to go for broke was too risky, and they shut up shop before Lyon’s heroics threatened to undo all their hard work.Babar’s most testing period was before tea when he was dropped on consecutive balls by Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne fielding close to the wicket off Swepson, who rebounded with menacing sharp turn and bounce after wayward bowling in the morning session.Cummins had earlier almost single-handedly reignited Australia’s push for victory with two wickets during a brilliant spell either side of lunch.Having given themselves almost two full days, Australia rued two chances on day four against Shafique, who was dropped on 20 by Steven Smith in a regulation chance at slip and almost run out only for Cameron Green’s throw to miss from mid-on.With contrasting draws to start the series, this historic contest comes down to the third Test and Pakistan will enter with the momentum after their heroic performance in a match that will surely be talked about for a long time to come.
