Fabrizio Romano shares worrying update on future of Crysencio Summerville

Leeds United have been dealt a blow with the latest update offered on key man Crysencio Summerville as the transfer window begins to ramp up ahead of the new season.

Summerville one of several likely to leave

After missing out on promotion from the Championship last season, Daniel Farke's side could look very different come the opening weekend of the new season. A 1-0 loss to Southampton condemned the Whites to another season in England's second tier, and has left the Elland Road side facing a bleak financial picture.

According to a report in The Daily Mail, the Yorkshire outfit will "have to raise close to £100million in player sales", while "up to 10 could go and would only be replaced by free transfers and loan signings" as they battle to remain the right side of financial fair play regulations amid outstanding transfer payments totalling close to £75m this summer.

There has been plenty of speculation around who will depart the club ahead of the new season, with reports linking the likes of Wilfried Gnonto, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter all with moves away from Elland Road. One man who seems certain to leave though is Championship player of the year Summerville.

Though the Dutchman still has two years left to run on his£15,000 a weekcontract at Elland Road, there is widespread expectation that he will leave the club amid interest from across the Premier League and Europe, in a move that could fetch his side a handsome fee.And a new name have entered the race.

Brighton chase Leeds star Summerville

Now, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed the latest on the future of the Dutchman, and has credited south-coast side Brighton with an interest in the winger. The Seagulls have made a habit of snapping up young talent on the cheap and turning a massive profit further down the line, and will be looking to do so again with Summerville.

Crysencio Summerville for Leeds United.

As per Romano, they have "made contact to start talks" with Leeds to "explore" a move for the 22-year-old, though it will not be "easy" to complete a deal.

One stumbling block may well be the price demanded by Leeds, with Brighton having never having shelled out more than £30m for a player in their history, with Joao Pedro their record signing when he arrived from Watford 12 months ago in a similar move, a deal that cost a total of £29m.

Summerville's arrival would almost certainly have to break that, with recent reports having put his price tag between £35m and £40m, a sum that other interested parties are likely to have no problem paying if they are to sure up their interest.

Another issue may be Summerville's own ambitions, with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea able to offer European football next season should they opt to move on their early interest for the Dutchman.

A potential sale below market value would of course be Leeds' worst possible outcome though, and that seems to be what Brighton are threatening ahead of the new season.

Chelsea eyeing move for 26 y/o winger compared to Reus in £25m+ transfer

Chelsea are looking to sign a European winger who has been compared to Borussia Dortmund legend, Marco Reus.

Chelsea transfer rumours

It has been a rather disappointing 2023/24 season for the Blues so far. They missed out on winning the League Cup to a weak Liverpool side back in February and despite spending around £500m in the last two transfer windows, they are once again set to go another campaign without Champions League football – currently sitting 7th in the Premier League.

The Blues are on course to secure a place in the Europa League or Europa Conference League, but this is not the standard Chelsea have become accustomed to over the years and could well mean Todd Boehly whips out his wallet once again this summer, with a number of names already being tipped to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have reportedly displayed interest in signing Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras. There has also been a suggestion this week that Chelsea could make an offer to sign £52m-rated Xavi Simons from Paris-Saint Germain this summer.

Xavi Simons for RB Leipzig

Elsewhere, Chelsea are said to be one of the English clubs lining up a summer swoop to sign Crystal Palace attacking midfielder, Michael Olise. There have also been reports that the Blues could offer up Raheem Sterling as part of a potential deal to land Olise.

With both Simons and Olise linked with a move to west London, it does appear as though Chelsea are keen to bring in further attacking reinforcements this summer. And now, a fresh name from outside of England is said to be of interest to the Blues.

Chelsea eye move for winger compared to Marco Reus

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea have checked on the situation of Stuttgart’s 26-year-old German winger, Chris Fuhrich. The report adds that Fuhrich has a release clause of just over £25m, which may not be an issue for the big-spending Londoners.

However, it is understood that the winger, who has been compared to Marco Reus, sees it as a great advantage that Stuttgart will play in the Champions League next season, something that Chelsea will not be able to do.

German giants Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are also keeping tabs on Fuhrich, who has scored eight and assisted seven in 32 Bundesliga games so far this term.

Amid his impressive 2023/24 campaign, the 26-year-old has earned his first call-up to the German national team and high praise from a number of people. Dortmund coach Edin Terzic was asked about Fuhrich and his qualities earlier this season, to which he responded: "I've known Chris for a long time. We brought him to Dortmund's U16 back then. He was a little bit weak physically, but his qualities on the ball were always outstanding."

Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß was also quick to highlight the versatility Fuhrich offers to a team: "Whether he's on the left or on the right, or in a one-on-one in the middle, he is very difficult to defend against. He has speed, is technically good and has good timing."

As a result, should Chelsea indeed manage to pull off a transfer for Fuhrich, he could be able to play all across the front line for them.

Azhar Ali makes warm-up hundred in successful chase of 353

Why Chelsea called off €21m Deivid Washington transfer to BlueCo-owned Strasbourg – explained

It was a hectic transfer deadline day for Chelsea and among it all was Deivid Washington watching his club fail to agree a move to Strasbourg.

The young Brazilian made only three substitute appearances for the Blues last season, but that didn't stop Strasbourg, who are owned by Chelsea owners BlueCo, from making a bid worth €21m (£18m/$23m). In the end the deal fell through and Washington remained in west London.

The striker was ready to do his medical, but he soon found out that Chelsea had cancelled the move because the Premier League and FIFA raised concerns over the transfer, as the two clubs involved in the transaction are owned by BlueCo, per ESPN. The player will now return to be part of Enzo Maresca's packed squad, and will have to wait until January 2025 to leave.

Despite Chelsea being wary of the repercussions from this move, the French club have already signed Diego Moreira for €9m (£7.5m/$10m) from Chelsea, which is also being investigated by the two sporting governing bodies. Caleb Wiley also joined Strasbourg on loan this year from the Blues, as did goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

WHAT NEXT FOR DEIVID WASHINGTON?

It is unlikely that the 19-year-old is going to be relied on by Maresca, who has been ruthless when it has come to cutting his squad down. It remains to be seen which clubs will be interested in Washington in January.

Man Utd could help Sancho explode by hiring "crazy" Ten Hag replacement

In the summer of 2021, Manchester United fans built up lots of anticipation and excitement around Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s final transfer window in charge of the club. At the time, they did not know their club legend would be sacked just months later, but it is fair to say his final transfer window as manager was a memorable one.

The biggest of the four signings made by the Red Devils that summer was to bring back to the club arguably the game’s greatest player, Cristiano Ronaldo. The legendary attacker cost £12.9m plus add-ons from Juventus, and whilst his second season under current manager Erik ten Hag went pear shape, the first season was memorable, scoring 18 goals in 30 Premier League games.

United also signed one of the most reputable defenders in world football, bringing experienced French defender Raphael Varane to the club from Real Madrid for an initial £34m. The 2018 World Cup winner has so far played 93 games in the red of United, although he could well leave this summer.

That summer, the Red Devils also brought two English players to the club. One was the return of Tom Heaton, on a free transfer as a back-up goalkeeper, and the other saw the end of a long transfer saga which had gone on for over a year.

Jadon Sancho’s Man Utd career in numbers

The player in question here is England winger Jadon Sancho, who joined United from Borussia Dortmund for £73m. Sadly, his time at Old Trafford has not been easy, and he is now back on loan in Germany, although is currently thriving and through to a Champions League semi-final.

Sancho has played 82 times for United so far, scoring just 12 goals and assisting six. He was also part of the squad that won the Carabao Cup last season. Of course, those are not the numbers Sancho, or fans, would have been hoping to see, but it has not been an easy time for him during his time at the club so far.

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.

Sancho’s time at United started rockily, due to an ear infection he picked up right before his first pre-season at the club, a very unfortunate occurrence. Indeed, it was not an easy season for anyone at United, with Solskjær’s sacking coming in November, and the whole squad struggling under interim Ralf Rangnick.

Under Ten Hag, Sancho struggled for minutes due to the arrival of Antony and took a break away from football for personal reasons. When he returned in the New Year of 2023, he hit the ground running and went on a good run of form for the Red Devils.

In the 2023/24 season, the winger fell out with United’s manager, and after a stalemate in which he was iced out from the rest of the squad, got a January move back to Dortmund, where he has since thrived.

Man United's Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho

Following a disastrous season for United, there are rumours that Ten Hag could leave his post as manager at the end of the season. This may allow Sancho a way back into the first-team fold at Old Trafford, especially considering Thomas Tuchel has been contacted by United, as per journalist Georg Holzner.

How Tuchel would benefit Sancho

At Borussia Dortmund second time round, Sancho has been playing under Edin Terzic. So far, the England international has three goals and two assists in the 17 games he has played since his return to the club.

There are certainly lots of similarities between Sancho’s current role under Terzic, and how that could see him fit in under Tuchel, should the former Chelsea manager get the job at Old Trafford.

Sancho has tended to play on the right-hand side under Tezric so far, yet operates a lot in the half-space, where he does much of his best work. He is a wonderful combination player, often having support from an overlapping full-back and a central midfielder, playing in triangles to help progress Dortmund’s play.

Jadon Sancho

Not only that, Sancho’s final third creativity can shine through in this Dortmund side, who like to pack the box full of players waiting for a cross. Playing on the right means he can very easily cut inside or go on the outside of a defender, before crossing from the byline, a very effective means of creating an opportunity for his side.

Like Terzic, Tuchel has favoured a 4-2-3-1 system at Bayern so far, although both managers are praised by the Bundesliga website for their “tactical acumen”, discussing Tuchel, and “innovative tactical thinking”, talking about the Dortmund boss.

Indeed, the 24-year-old may well fit into a similar role under Tuchel, who loves excellent ball carriers operating in both the left and right half-space, as Sancho excels. Under Tuchel this season, Leroy Sane has been given a licence to drift inside and impact the game from such areas, so it is certainly a possibility Sancho would be given the same chance.

Alternatively, if Tuchel was to play a back three as he did at Chelsea, Sancho could slot into one of the two number 10 roles, which Mason Mount and Kai Havertz at Stamford Bridge under the German mainly occupied. Here, Sancho would no doubt thrive, once again operating in the half spaces again, and being able to drop deeper in midfield at times to carry the ball forward.

Thomas Tuchel

When Tuchel was Chelsea manager, there were rumours he wanted to sign the 24-year-old when he was Chelsea manager. Thus, it is fair to assume that he would happily manage him at Old Trafford should he get the United job.

Should the Dortmund number 10 get another chance, but this time with Tuchel at the helm, we could well see another version of Sancho, the one that was on display during his mesmerising performance against PSG in the Champions League semi-finals.

Tuchel was once described as “a bit crazy” by former player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who then said his “style is a bit like that of Guardiola”. Perhaps the Bayern Munich boss is exactly the man to help Sancho discover his best form in a United shirt.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

Jesus had a difficult 2023-24 due to injuries, making just 36 appearances in all competitions and scoring eight goals. The forward had a great pre-season, though, scoring in friendly victories over Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester United. His performance in their 4-1 victory over Leverkusen at the Emirates thrilled Arteta in particular, and the Spaniard has encouraged the Brazilian to get back on track.

  • WHAT ARTETA SAID

Speaking to the media, Arteta said: "The first feeling when I saw him [this summer], it was something different. I could sense it. The energy was different. The way he looks is different. The way he moves is different… he looks good.

"Now it's a question of finding the consistency and doing it consistently and doing it in any context, any situation, any day, every three days, for 90 minutes, for 30 minutes, for 70 minutes. OK – what are you able to produce in those circumstances? But he looks good."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With the Gunners set to try and take part in their third-straight title challenge, Arteta also provided an update on the return of Jurrien Timber and when their new £42 million ($53.3m) signing Riccardo Calafiori would be taking to the field having not played a single minute in their four pre-season games so far.

He told the media: "Jurrien had a little discomfort in his foot in the last few days and obviously, after the amount of time he’s been out, we didn’t want to take any risks with him.

"In regard to Riccardo, so much happened to him in one week! He’s come into a new environment with a different methodology and different training, so we are managing him, and we want to do it slowly and in the best way possible.

"Hopefully he will be available to play some minutes on Sunday."

Ansu gets injured again Was out for three months with a hamstring issue His Barcelona future is up in the air WHAT HAPPENED?

The youngster's career has been marred by several injuries since he burst onto the scene at the age of 16 in 2019 at Camp Nou. A meniscus tear in the knee initially sidelined him for almost a year in 2020, requiring surgery and rehabilitation. And then subsequent hamstring and muscle injuries further hampered Ansu's progress, which led the Catalan club to send him out on loan to Brighton last summer.

AdvertisementGOALTHE BIGGER PICTURE

During his loan spell at Brighton, Ansu once again got sidelined with another hamstring problem which saw him spend three months on the sidelines. His fitness struggles restricted him from realising his potential in the Premier League and he was able to play just over 1000 minutes during the loan stint. The Spaniard returned to pre-season with renewed vigour to impress new manager Hansi Flick, but an untimely foot injury has once again thwarted his progress.

WHAT BARCELONA SAID

Barcelona released an official statement regarding Ansu's latest injury that read: "In Tuesday’s training session, first team player Ansu Fati injured the sole of his right foot. He will follow a conservative treatment plan in Barcelona, and his return to training will be decided by his recovery."

DID YOU KNOW?

Despite expressing his desire to stay and succeed with the Catalan giants, the club has reportedly informed Ansu that he does not feature in the plans of Flick. Barcelona are said to be open to selling him this summer which has attracted interest from several clubs, including Fenerbahce, where manager Jose Mourinho is considering a move for the forward as he builds his squad for the upcoming season.
