Everton flop sold in 2023 is now outscoring Beto & Ndiaye combined

David Moyes has enjoyed a sensational return to life at Goodison Park since he agreed to join Everton for a second spell to replace Sean Dyche in January.

The Scottish manager, who was let go by West Ham United at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, has won four, drawn one, and lost one, of his opening six matches in charge of the Toffees so far.

James Tarkowski’s last-gasp screamer in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park earlier this month has, arguably, been the highlight of Moyes’ second tenure to date, and it will be hard to beat.

The former Manchester United boss has racked up 13 points from his first six games and that is significantly better than what Dyche managed when he first arrived at Goodison.

As you can see in the results above, the former Burnley gaffer only racked up seven points in his first six games in charge of the Toffees, with three losses in those six games.

Another thing that Moyes already has over Dyche is that he has managed to get a tune out of Portuguese centre-forward Beto, who has been on fire in recent weeks.

Everton's top goalscorers this season

The former Udinese number nine had only scored one goal in 12 appearances in the Premier League under the former Everton manager in the first-half of the season, after a return of just three goals in 30 league outings in the 2023/24 campaign.

However, Beto has propelled himself to being the second-top scorer for Everton in the top-flight this season with an exceptional haul of four goals in his last three outings in the division.

The 27-year-old marksman struck twice in the 4-0 win over Leicester, opened the scoring against Liverpool in the derby, and netted the opener against Crystal Palace in a 2-1 win last time out.

As you can see in the table above, his recent burst of goals has taken him up to second in the standings and only behind Ndiaye, who has an impressive return of six goals from 4.22 xG.

Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin almost has as much xG as Ndiaye and Beto combined and, yet, has only scored three goals in the Premier League this season.

Everton's DominicCalvert-Lewincelebrates scoring their first goal

On the topic of strikers, though, there is a former Everton star – Moise Kean – who is now outscoring all three of the current Toffees forwards combined, almost two years on from when the club ruthlessly sold him.

Why Everton sold Moise Kean

The Italy international was initially snapped up by Everton from Juventus in the summer of 2019 for a reported fee of £29m, which could have soared to £37m with add-ons, under Marco Silva.

Unfortunately, the young marksman failed to hit the ground running at Goodison Park and only started six of his 29 Premier League appearances during the 2019/20 campaign, scoring two goals and providing two assists in that time.

He was then sent out on loan to Paris Saint-Germain for the 2020/21 and the Italian ace caught the eye with a return of 19 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.

Kean returned to Everton and played twice under Rafa Benitez at the start of the 2021/22 campaign before being sent to Juventus on a two-season loan deal that summer, with an obligation to make the deal permanent.

His move to the Old Lady on a permanent basis was confirmed in March 2023 for a reported fee of £25m, after he had scored 11 Serie A goals and had been described as “useless” by journalist Tancredi Palmeri after the 2022 Supercoppa Italiana final against Inter.

Where Are They Now

The Italy international then endured a torrid 2023/24 season with the Serie A giants, as he failed to score in 19 appearances and eight starts, and joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2024.

Moise Kean's stunning form this season

The 24-year-old star has hit his stride in the Serie A since his move to Florence last year, as he has proven that he does have the ability to find the back of the net on a consistent basis in a major European league.

After a return of just 11 goals in three seasons with Juventus, after initially leaving Everton on loan in 2021, Kean has already scored 15 league goals for Fiorentina in the current campaign.

The right-footed sensation has outscored Calvert-Lewin, Beto, and Ndiaye combined (14) at league level this season with his 15 strikes, and has done so in an efficient manner.

Kean, who has struck 19 times in all competitions, has scored 15 times from 12.77 xG and only missed nine ‘big chances’ in the Serie A so far this term, which shows that he has been ruthless in front of goal for the Italian side.

As you can see in the table above, the former Everton flop ranks incredibly highly among forwards in the division in a host of key goalscoring metrics, which illustrates just how well he has performed this season.

The Toffees may, now, regret their decision to completely cut ties with the young centre-forward back in 2021, when they sent him out on loan with an obligation for Juventus to buy him, because he has gone on to develop into a fantastic striker and one who is significantly outperforming all of Moyes’ current options.

Of course, that is with the benefit of hindsight and Kean did struggle at Juventus in the last three seasons before his move to Fiorentina, so there is no guarantee that he would have found his best form if he remained at Goodison Park.

Marco Agostini, VP de Futebol do Alvinegro, elogiou a postura do novo técnico.

Enquanto Ramón estiver fora, Emiliano Díaz, filho e auxiliar-técnico do argentino, comandará o Botafogo. Provavelmente ele será o treinador diante do Red Bull Bragantino, na próxima segunda-feira, em partida válida pela 21ª rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro.

'Haven't bowled as well as we can' – Walsh

Bangladesh’s batsmen, led by Mushfiqur Rahim, have had their moments, but the bowlers have underwhelmed. So said stand-in coach Courtney Walsh on the eve of his side’s must-win encounter against Sri Lanka. In their previous match, Bangladesh had conceded 79 runs in a definitive six-over period against India. Even in the game they won, they conceded 214.There has been one bright spark in their attack, however, and this time it is not the young left-armer with the magic wrists. It is Rubel Hossain who has been Bangladesh’s best, maintaining an economy of 8.22 in three matches. Along the way, he has picked up four wickets. One of those was the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan, who was bowled by perhaps the ball of the tournament so far: a late-swinging, yorker that zipped past Dhawan’s outside edge and flattened middle stump.”Rubel has been very consistent,” Walsh said. “If the other guys stepped up, it would give us a little more cushion. I would be lying if I said I thought we bowled well. We have bowled okay, but not as well as we can. The improvement is coming, but not as quickly as we would like. If we can put it all together, it will be a big plus for us in Friday’s game.””Spinners also have not been as spot-on as we like them to be. They have had good patches. But if everyone did their bit, it will give us a very good chance.”Among those who have under-performed at the Nidahas Trophy has been Mustafizur Rahman, whose 12 overs have gone at 9.75 runs apiece, though he has also taken four wickets in the competition. His cutters have been only sporadically effective on Khettarama decks that have atypically failed to reward revolutions on the ball.Friday’s virtual semi-final will be played on a fresh pitch, which means that seam and swing may be more reliable fast-bowling weapons than cutters. “Someone like Mustafizur Rahman having a good game will help us tremendously,” Walsh said. “I am hoping he can step up to the plate in this crucial game. I know he can. He had some fantastic games in PSL so it is a case of turning it around here. One game can make a difference. It could be his game, or another bowler’s game, but we’re hoping that he comes good.”The attack would appear to have been bolstered with news that Shakib Al Hasan is joining the team ahead of this game, but Walsh was reluctant to suggest Shakib is a certainty for the playing XI. Though he will be with the team in the approach to the game, Shakib is expected to take a fitness test for his injured finger that has kept him out since mid-January.”He is on his way. Like any other player he will be assessed. If he is fit, someone of his class and calibre will be considered to play.”

T20 may become cricket's only format – Buttler

Jos Buttler, England’s limited-overs wicketkeeper, has suggested that T20 could kill off all other forms of cricket within the near future

Jos Buttler, England’s limited-overs wicketkeeper, has suggested that T20 could kill off all other forms of cricket within the near future. Buttler said that while he still viewed Test cricket as “the pinnacle”, he could see a time – in “15 to 20 years” or sooner – in which T20 dominated. His comments are likely to fuel fears that 20-over cricket, which has only been played professionally for 15 years, will eventually eclipse the more traditional formats.”I feel cricket could become a one-format game in the future – whether that’s soon or in 15 to 20 years,” Buttler told . “Test cricket is still, for me, the pinnacle of cricket but T20 fills out stadiums and is easy to keep up with and follow. Everyone wants things faster these days and things evolve so maybe Twenty20 could have a monopoly on cricket.”We all love the history of Test cricket – you will never have situations thrown up in T20 that Test cricket can do to you and you will never be tested as a player as you would in Test cricket. It’s a complete test of everything and it would be sad [if it disappeared], but as a product T20 is going from strength to strength.”Buttler has played 18 Tests, the last of which was as a specialist batsman on the 2016-17 tour of India, but was not selected for the Ashes tour party with Ben Foakes preferred as Jonny Bairstow’s deputy in Australia.Instead, Buttler plied his trade as a T20 globe-trotter, appearing in the Bangladesh Premier League and then the Big Bash League. In April, he will return to India for a third season in the IPL and he conceded that he is likely to put T20 opportunities ahead of furthering his Test chances by playing more first-class cricket. The softening of England’s stance towards the IPL saw several players bought for hefty amounts during last month’s auction – Ben Stokes commanded a fee of £1.37m from Rajasthan Royals, who also signed Buttler for £480,000 – and the financial rewards on offer in T20 are unmatched in other forms of the game.”Hopefully the administrators can find a way of making the Test game more popular – it’s awesome and I’d love to be playing in it,” Buttler said ahead of England’s T20 against New Zealand in Wellington, when he is again set to captain the side in Eoin Morgan’s absence.”[Not making the Ashes squad] was a wake-up call that I have slipped down the ladder in red-ball cricket and white-ball cricket is obviously my strength. I thought if I’m serious about playing red-ball cricket I could give up the white-ball stuff for two years and spend winters playing red ball, but I feel like there are too many opportunities to go down that route.”

Everton Could Be Able To Sign Summer Target For £25m

Everton have constantly been linked with a move for Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto this summer and now they know the amount needed to sign him.

Are Everton signing Wilfried Gnonto?

The 19-year-old's future has been a big talking point the more the summer transfer window has gone on, as he pushes for a move away from Elland Road.

While Gnonto seemingly appeared to be happy at Leeds last season, their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship has changed the situation significantly.

Read the latest Everton transfer news HERE…

The Italian doesn't want to be plying his trade in the second tier of English football over at least the next 12 months, perhaps understandably, and he has made it clear that he wants to move on, even refusing to play for the Whites.

It is Everton who have stood out as the club most likely to acquire Gnonto's signature before deadline day arrives at the end of this month, but Leeds have held firm up until this point. Now, it looks as though the Toffees know precisely how much will be needed to prise him away this summer.

Wilfried Gnonto

What's the latest on Wilfried Gnonto to Everton?

According to Football Insider, Leeds are increasingly likely to accept a £25m bid for the exciting attacker in the coming days and weeks, making the situation clear for Everton:

"Leeds United are privately holding out for a fee of at least £25million before considering selling Everton top target Wilfried Gnonto this summer, sources have told Football Insider. Football Insider revealed on Friday that Everton are the frontrunners to land the 19-year-old – and have seen a £20million bid for his services rejected.

"It is believed personal terms will not be an issue for the Merseysiders with Gnonto currently earning a small wage at Leeds.

"A well-placed source has told Football Insider that a bid of £25million with a favourable payment structure could soften that stance."

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has said that personal terms on a five-year deal are already agreed with Everton.

This is an encouraging update regarding the Blues' pursuit of Gnonto and it would be foolish for the club not to bid £25m and see what happens, really testing Leeds' resolve in the process.

The teenager is someone who could light up Goodison Park if he seals a summer move there, possessing the rare ability to beat players with ease, not to mention quick feet and end product, having notched six goal contributions (two goals and four assists) in the Premier League last season.

Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home to Fulham perfectly illustrated why a player of Gnonto's ilk may well be required before the end of the transfer window.

Gary Neville has described Gnonto as "absolutely fantastic" in the past, and considering he is still only 19 years of age currently and already an Italy international on a regular basis, he could only improve further as a player as the years go on, in terms of becoming a more polished footballer in his all-round game, cutting out the rawness that understandably exists in his game currently.

Man Utd Have "Discussed" £28m Move For De Ligt 2.0

Manchester United are believed to be considering a range of options in their bid to strengthen their centre-back ranks this summer, with a replacement seemingly needed for departing former skipper, Harry Maguire.

Will Man United replace Maguire?

With a £30m deal having been agreed with West Ham United for the sale of Maguire, journalist Graeme Bailey has since reported that the Red Devils have a number of potential targets who they could turn to in order to plug that gap, with Torino's Perr Schuurs among those to have been mentioned.

Writing on Twitter, the transfer insider revealed: "Man Utd are already working hard on centre-back options when Harry Maguire leaves the club. Benjamin Pavard, Jean-Clair Todibo, Perr Schuurs, Jarrad Branthwaite and Antonio Silva all discussed within Old Trafford."

Read the latest Manchester United transfer news HERE…

In his attached piece for 90min – alongside colleague Scott Saunders – Bailey went on to add that the Schuurs is a figure who is 'liked behind the scenes' at Old Trafford, with the 6 foot 3 Dutchman believed to have been valued at around £28m, amid interest from fellow Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur.

How good is Perr Schuurs?

It may not come as a surprise to see United yet again linked with a player who has worked under manager Erik ten Hag previously, with the Dutch tactician having already secured reunions with the likes of Andre Onana, Antony and Lisandro Martinez during his time in Manchester to date.

In the case of Schuurs, the 23-year-old played alongside that trio at Ajax prior to making the move to Turin last summer, having scored three times in 94 appearances in all competitions from his centre-back berth under Ten Hag's watch.

Matthijs de Ligt

That time in Amsterdam notably saw the Netherlands U21 international likened to one of his compatriots and former teammates, with Edwin Van der Sar stating in 2020 that he "looks very much like Matthijs De Ligt", with fellow United legend Rio Ferdinand also adding:

"I said at the time he reminded me a little bit of De Ligt, who they sold to Juventus. He was strong, an imposing defender who read the game very well. Once he gets his big legs going, he goes out there and is very determined.

"He’s assertive, he understands when to go in and make his tackles."

With De Ligt having been a firm favourite of Ten Hag – after being given the captain's armband at the age of just 18 at the Johan Cruyff Arena – it could represent a real masterstroke to be able to sign a potential clone of the Bayern Munich man.

There may be those wondering whether it may not be better to simply land De Ligt instead, although the former Juventus man is likely to come at a premium as he is valued at €60m (£53m) by CIES Football Observatory, having also been criticised for his form in Germany of late, as ex-Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated that both the 23-year-old – and Sadio Mane – "are not world-class players".

Schuurs, by contrast, has been particularly impressive in Italy of late, with the towering asset having been dubbed a "mountain" at the back by journalist Josh Bunting amid his stellar form in Serie A during the 2022/23 campaign.

That is showcased by the £29k-per-week man's defensive prowess in relation to his peers as he ranks in the top 20% in Europe's top five leagues among those in his position for tackles made per 90, while his ability on the ball is showcased by the fact that he ranks in the top 19% for successful take-ons per 90 – illustrating his ease in possession.

That is in stark contrast to De Ligt, with the senior Netherlands international ranking in just the bottom 21% and the bottom 2% for those same two metrics, respectively, perhaps indicating that he has suffered since leaving his homeland.

Although the 6 foot 2 menace was the man who led Ajax's charge to the Champions League semi-final under Ten Hag back in 2018/19, the United boss could perhaps find a new defensive figurehead by turning to another familiar face in the form of Schuurs.

Tottenham: Spurs Could Make Surprise Move For £100M Star

Tottenham Hotspur could move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer window, which may come as a surprise for Spurs supporters given his eight-month ban.

Is Harry Kane leaving Tottenham?

The north Londoners and manager Ange Postecoglou could lose star striker Harry Kane soon as chairman Daniel Levy is given the almighty task of deciding whether to keep or sell before September 1.

Kane has entered the final year of his contract, meaning he could leave for free next summer. Spurs have offered their talisman a huge new deal, but it is believed he won't sign it this window as German champions Bayern Munich continue to pursue an agreement for him.

The prospect of him leaving is a very real one as Tottenham will not want to see their prized asset sign elsewhere for nothing next year.

Postecoglou, speaking to the media earlier this summer, told reporters that the Kane saga is an unwelcome distraction for all involved.

“Fair to say I am not relaxed about it," said the Spurs head coach.

“It’s not something you go: ‘Ah, well, you know if it does or doesn’t happen!’ I mean it’s a very important part of this football club, not just the team, but the football club.

“So, you’ve got to deal with it, and I think, for everyone concerned, we don’t want to be doing it for too long. I don’t think that is good for anyone. I don’t think it is good for Harry, I don’t think it is good for the club, because as laser focused as we want to be, you end up sort of repeating yourself along the way."

Read the latest Tottenham transfer news HERE…

Tottenham, in case Kane does depart, have been looking at striker alternatives – perhaps most notably Randal Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt and Gent's Gift Orban.

Toney, who has been linked with a move to Spurs before, could also be subject to an approach from Postecoglou's side this window – despite his eight-month ban in May for breaching gambling laws.

ivan-toney-transfer-gossip-tottenham-hotspur-brentford-postecoglou-harry-kane

That's according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, who told GiveMeSport that the Bees striker could tempt Spurs.

“I just wonder if they might risk Richarlison for the first part of the season and obviously Son can play up top as well.

"And then Spurs may look at doing something with Ivan Toney for when he's back from his betting ban in January, but they might even try and sign him now thinking the price might be lower, because he's not available for the first half of the season.”

How good is Ivan Toney?

Scoring 20 goals and assisting four others for Brentford over the 22/23 league season, there is no question that Toney is an elite striker on his day.

Bees boss Thomas Frank even placed a £100 million price tag on his head earlier this year, showing how highly-rated he is.

"He’s coming across so fantastically: he’s humble, calm, but with a mindset of a lion," said Frank in 2021.

"I think for every person or player the sky’s the limit, then we will see in the future where they go.

"First I just want to enjoy Ivan here in my team, and see him grow and be as good as possible, and then we’ll see what happens in the future."
