Spurs could have a "bigger talent than Mikey Moore" in Hotspur Way gem

There has not been much to celebrate for Tottenham Hotspur fans this season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have seriously struggled in the Premier League, were demolished by Liverpool in the League Cup and crashed out of the FA Cup against Aston Villa.

The one competition the fans have been able to really enjoy has been the Europa League, and it’s no surprise that it’s where the club’s brilliant youngsters have made the most impact.

The most exciting academy star is undoubtedly Mikey Moore, but that might not be the case next season, as Hotspur Way might have another superstar in the making for Postecoglou.

Mikey Moore's incredible talent

While he might have been something of an unknown quantity to the majority of fans at the start of the season, Moore certainly isn’t anymore.

The 17-year-old phenom hasn’t played loads of football this term, with Postecoglou opting to ease him in slowly and illness keeping him out of the team for a while, but when he has stepped onto the pitch, he’s looked like he belongs there.

For example, despite not scoring or providing an assist in the first Europa League game against AZ Alkmaar back in October, the Southwark-born gem completely stole the show.

In fact, he was so brilliant to watch that James Maddison compared him to Neymar Jr in a post-match interview, which, as comparisons go, is not a bad one.

So far, the teenage dynamo has scored one goal and provided two assists in 16 first-team appearances, totalling just 632 minutes, meaning he’s chipped in with a goal involvement on average every 210.66 minutes.

Overall, Moore looks like he will become an incredibly important player for Spurs and Postecoglou over the coming years.

Still, he might have some extra competition out of Hotspur Way for the title of best youngster next season.

The prospect who could be better than Moore

The next young superstar in the making to come out of Hotspur Way looks like it could be the incredibly exciting Luca Williams-Barnett.

The 16-year-old phenomenon hasn’t made a first-team appearance yet – although he has featured on the bench – but don’t let that fool you; he appears to have what it takes to be a future world-beater.

In fact, he’s showing it week in and week out at the youth level, and so far this season, he has racked up a truly unbelievable tally of 19 goals and ten assists in 23 games, totalling 1797 minutes for the U18 team.

That means he’s averaging 1.26 goal involvements every game, or one every 61.96 minutes.

On top of that, the unreal talent can play in attacking midfield, on either wing, in left-midfield and he’s even played up top as well, leading academy expert and pundit John Wenham to describe him as a “cheat code.”

With such an astounding rate of return in the academy, it’s easy to understand why one prominent Spurs content creator asked, “is he a bigger talent than Mikey Moore?”

Ultimately, while that might seem a little premature to some, Williams Barnett has taken the Lilywhites junior sides by storm this season, and we would not be in the slightest bit surprised to see him lining up alongside Moore in the first team next year.

Kusal Mendis: 'One thing I emphasise is ensuring 100% is given in the field'

The perennial runners-up of the Lanka Premier League, Galle Gladiators, have had an indifferent start to this season’s LPL, but under new leadership they look to be steadily building up a head of steam that they hope will take them over the final hurdle this time around. They have two wins and three losses this season. Aside from a one-sided five-wicket loss to Kandy Falcons, the Gladiators gave Jaffna Kings an early tournament scare and then were pipped at the post in a high-scoring encounter against Colombo Stars. In the first, it was the batting that let them down and in the second their bowlers failed to defend a target of 194. But one consistent feature across each of their games has been their high intensity in the field. For captain Kusal Mendis, it is this which has been a non-negotiable under his captaincy.”Aside from batting and bowling, one thing I emphasise is ensuring 100% is given in the field,” he said during an online media briefing. “Because with the former two it’s hard to ensure things go your way, but with fielding it’s something you’re completely in control of. Fielding well means you’re about 70% of the way towards winning a game.”In other aspects however, Mendis takes a more laidback attitude to leadership, choosing to trust in his team-mates to deliver on their roles. A role he seems to have adopted from Gladiators’ head coach and former Pakistan wicketkeeper Moin Khan.”As a coach he doesn’t get too involved during the games; when it comes to bowling or fielding changes, he doesn’t get very involved. It’s only during a timeout that he’ll give his input. As a captain I’m happy to work with him as he tends to be positive in his feedback, while any suggestions are merely suggestions as opposed to outright demands. I’m very happy with him and how he handles the team.”Both Mendis’ and Khan’s approach seemed to reap rich dividends in Gladiators’ last match against Stars, when Mendis batted through the innings, stitching together partnerships with potential future Sri Lankan stars Thanuka Dabare and Lahiru Udara, as they piled up 193 runs.”I just told them to play their normal game, to not let it get into their heads, and just play like it’s a club game. For me it takes a lot of the pressure off when you have batters who play like that. In the last two games, it’s just been a matter of supporting them. Yesterday I was only able to get to 50 because Dabare took on the scoring burden early on. My goal is usually to bat out as many overs as possible and play the anchor.”Gladiators would ultimately lose that game, but Mendis isn’t reading too much into it, putting much of his side’s inability to keep things tight down the heavy dew which had descended on Pallekele. Jaffna captain Thisara Perera had earlier commented on how the dew had been akin to hosing down the ball with water, a sentiment Mendis concurred with.”We were looking at winning the toss and bowling first, but we couldn’t do that. Fortunately I and the rest of the batters were able to put a good total – 193 is a very good score in T20s. With the dew it’s not easy to bowl with the slower bowlers. There was considerably more dew than you would expect usually. I think we even changed the ball it was so bad. That was probably the reason why our bowlers missed their lengths some time.”Dew however will likely be less of a concern going forward, as from Saturday onwards the action moves to Colombo, where Mendis and Co. will be hoping to iron out the kinks and finally get their hands on a trophy that has narrowly eluded them so far.

Yamal has been setting the world alight since his emergence as a 16-year-old winger with Barcelona, however, his 2024-25 season has seen him rise up as a world-beater. Under Hansi Flick, as a part of their stupendous front three alongside Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, the 17-year-old has shown the understanding and brilliance of a veteran to complement his burst of pace and his overall skillset.

On Wednesday evening, Yamal had one of his best games in a Barcelona shirt as the Catalan side drew 3-3 with Inter Milan, as he ran the Serie A side's defence ragged and also scored a spectacular goal after a solo run. After the game, Henry revealed to Yamal that he was going to watch Barcelona's La Liga Clasico against Real Madrid and wanted his jersey for his son, who is a big fan, which prompted the Spaniard to encourage a trade deal with the Arsenal legend that would see him get one of Henry's shirts.

WHAT YAMAL AND HENRY SAID

During Yamal's interview on CBS Sports, Henry said: "I am coming to see El Clasico [later this month]. I am coming to watch the game. Can I get your shirt for my son, please?

Yamal responded, "Then we have to do a swap, and you have to give me your shirt," which prompted Henry to ask him, "The Barca one is the one you want?"

Yamal then said he was okay with "Barca, Arsenal, whatever you want."

West Ham now hold talks to sign new £25m forward with 10 goals this season

West Ham are now in talks with a new forward for Graham Potter as they look to solve their striker crisis at the London Stadium, according to a fresh report.

West Ham chasing forward

West Ham have shown improvement under Potter since he took over in east London, but remain on the hunt for a new forward in the final days of the transfer window.

Mohammed Kudus was deployed as a no.9 in their most recent Premier League outing, a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, underlining the lack of options available to the new manager.

Michail Antonio remains sidelined indefinitely after a car crash, while Jarrod Bowen has a fractured foot and is also unavailable. Summer signing Niclas Fullkrug’s injury misfortune continued earlier in the month too, with the German now set to miss the next three months with a hamstring injury which forced him off just minutes into their FA Cup defeat against Aston Villa.

West Ham and Potter eyeing move to sign "talented" defender over Tottenham

Potter is yet to welcome his first signing at the club…

One player who they have been strongly linked with is Brighton forward Evan Ferguson, who Potter knows well and handed his debut during his time on the south coast. It is believed that he could be available on loan and several clubs are chasing his signature, but that previous relationship combined with the chance for regular first-team football could give the Hammers the edge.

Multiple forwards could arrive however, given the current shortage in the no.9 spot at the London Stadium. The club have also been in talks to sign Brian Brobbey from Ajax, while a move for out-of-favour RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva on loan for the remainder of the campaign has also been mooted.

Now, a new name has entered the fray, with the Hammers looking beyond the final week of the transfer window.

West Ham in talks over 10 goal striker

That is according to a fresh report from French outlet L’Equipe [Via West Ham Zone], who report that West Ham are in talks to sign OGC Nice forward Evann Guessand.

The 23-year-old striker has found the net nine times in Ligue 1 so far this season, as well as netting in the Europa League, and is regarded as a top prospect in France.

And the report claims that West Ham are “in talks with the entourage” of Guessand over a potential move, with Nice reportedly valuing their striker at £25m, a fee that would be their second highest-ever sale behind Jean-Michel Seri.

However, it is a deal that has been earmarked for the summer rather than in the coming days, with Guessand enjoying a fine season for Les Aiglons and expected to remain there this winter.

“I’m at Nice. The season is ongoing and we have objectives. I am fully focused on my club and the objectives that await us,” said the versatile forward in a recent interview.

There is also thought to be interest from Germany in the talent, but West Ham could be at the head of the queue as things stand following talks.

INEOS given unanimous backing in "transformational" Man Utd stadium update

Turning their attention away from troubles on the pitch, INEOS have reportedly received unanimous backing in what has been described as a “transfomational” Manchester United stadium update.

INEOS given green light

When Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS first arrived with the likes of Dan Ashworth in tow, there was more optimism than there had been for a long time at Manchester United. The influence of the Glazers had been weakened and INEOS arrived fresh full of ideas, new transfer strategies and the funds to awaken England’s biggest tiring giant threatening to sleep.

Amazing Hojlund upgrade: £58m "monster" now wants to sign for Man Utd

Manchester United are looking to bring in this new attacker before the transfer window closes.

ByKelan Sarson Jan 28, 2025

Almost a year on from the news of their partial takeover, however, and to say that INEOS haven’t exactly been making positive strides would be an understatement. Funding has been cut in a number of areas outside of the matchday squad, including reportedly to the Manchester United Foundation whilst ticket prices have continued to rise.

Meanwhile, on the pitch, those increased ticket prices have not proven worthwhile with Ruben Amorim’s side sat a world away from European qualification and on the end of countless results to forget. But, just as a positive is needed more than ever, Ratcliffe has received some good news.

As relayed by Mike Keegan of The Daily Mail, INEOS have now been given unanimous backing in their plan to build a new Old Trafford from the local authority. Officials at Trafford council unanimously backed the plans which will create a new 100,000-seater stadium.

Dubbed “transformational” by the council, INEOS will now begin their search for a consultant team in an attempt to bring their plan to life and play their part in regenerating the area. It is also believed that the new project will add £7.3bn to the economy and provide over 90,000 jobs and 15,0000 more homes in what should only be seen as something to celebrate for the first time this season.

New Old Trafford a key step for Man Utd

Leaving their failure on the pitch to one side for a moment, Manchester United have been playing at a historic ground which is gradually becoming a decaying antique whilst the likes of Everton and Tottenham Hotspur move on into impressive, modern stadiums. With Old Trafford leaking at the same rate as Amorim’s backline, INEOS had to put plans together to solve at least one problem and it seems as though a New Old Trafford has taken precedent.

Speaking about the proposed plan, Councillor Liz Patel, executive member for economy and regeneration at Trafford council, said: “I am delighted these plans have been approved by the council executive. As the report says, this is one of the most significant opportunities for urban renewal in Trafford and the results will be great for the area and the surrounding region.

“This is a hugely exciting project and working with our partners and private developers, we will be looking to create thousands of new homes, new neighbourhoods, and a world-class setting for the Manchester United stadium.”

The 24-year-old has been a productive figure for Spurs since joining from Juventus in an initial loan deal in the 2022-23 campaign. This season, he has scored seven league goals and set up a further four, but the north London team continue to struggle as they sit 14th in the table after 31 matches.

It was reported last week that an Italy return could be on the cards for the Sweden international amid interest from AC Milan and Napoli. Spurs would rather keep Kulusevski and would hold out for a fee of around £50 million ($64m), but the club’s former scout, Mick Brown, believes he may want to quit the club this summer.

WHAT BROWN SAID

"Kulusevski is one who could leave this summer. I think a lot of the players are frustrated with the way the season has gone at Tottenham," he said to . "Whenever I’ve seen them play, he has been one of if not their best player, so they’re not going to want to lose him unless a really big offer comes in. I hear a couple of the Italian clubs have been looking at him – AC Milan and Napoli. It’s a league and a country he knows after his time with Juventus, so a return might suit him. I think he’s going to be interested in those moves should the opportunity arise for him. It’s definitely one I think will be feasible even if Tottenham don’t want to let him leave, because he will want to continue playing at the highest level. He’s certainly good enough to do it, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him go."

Farke may now have found the new Ben White in 7/10 Leeds machine

Despite the foggy conditions causing all sorts of problems for spectators and players alike, Leeds United still managed to pick up a relatively straightforward victory over Stoke City on Boxing Day.

The 2-0 win away at the Potters sends the Whites to the very top of the Championship summit, having capitalised on Sheffield United falling to a rare defeat at home to then confidently brush aside Narcís Pelach’s lacklustre hosts.

Joel Piroe would be the difference maker on the night, as the former Swansea City man bagged both his side’s strikes with the harsh elements thankfully not getting the better of the Dutchman’s clinical nature in front of goal.

Piroe's performance in numbers

The Whites number ten does have a tendency to blow hot and cold for his promotion-chasing side, considering he hadn’t scored in his last five league outings before this brace against Stoke.

From just 32 touches of the ball, Piroe would show off a killer instinct in the forward positions that once saw him net a mightily impressive 22 Championship goals for ex-employers Swansea during the 2021/22 campaign, before then embarking on a new adventure in West Yorkshire.

Away from just being a goalscoring hero, Piroe also tallied up two key passes to try and fashion openings for his teammates, whilst further winning four duels to get stuck in and battle during what was an attritional contest at points.

Purchased towards the start of Farke’s reign at the club, the Dutchman is proving to still be a worthwhile addition, especially if his contributions up top go on to result in promotion glory finally being achieved.

But, there is another face in the Leeds ranks now that is shining even brighter than the two-goal striker, as the table-toppers have seemingly found yet another gem utilising the loan market.

Leeds' new Ben White

Once upon a time – before he became a Premier League regular at Arsenal – Ben White was a beloved loan figure at Elland Road, with the 27-year-old present for every single minute of Championship action that could come his way during Leeds’ title-winning season under Marcelo Bielsa.

Fast forward to today and Joe Rothwell will hope he’s remembered in a similarly fond light when this campaign is over and done with, as the Whites also manage to break out of the second tier again.

As can be seen looking at the table above, Rothwell put in another typically composed display for his loan side, with only five misplaced passes next to his name come the full-time whistle from his 95 touches.

Much like Piroe, however, the 29-year-old also won his fair share of duels in the Stoke fog away from just stylishly going about his business, with only one duel lost from five attempted.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue would praise Rothwell’s showing at the full-time whistle, gifting the 6 foot 1 star a high 7/10 match rating, stating that the Leeds number eight was ‘energetic’ throughout.

Leeds will hope now that their new standout loanee – in the mould of White – can keep these performances coming, having already tasted a second tier promotion success on his playing CV with parent employers AFC Bournemouth.

LeedsUnitedmanagerDaniel Farke celebrates after the match

Of course, supporters of the West Yorkshire outfit know all too well the twists and turns this division can throw up, but if players such as Rothwell and Piroe can continue to perform to these standards, Leeds should be in and around those automatic promotion spots right up until May.

Jamie Overton will make his Test debut against New Zealand at Headingley on Thursday, in place of James Anderson, as England’s captain Ben Stokes confirmed a solitary change to the team that sealed the series with their five-wicket victory at Trent Bridge last week.Stokes, who had himself been a concern after missing training through illness on Tuesday, came through a training session on Wednesday morning after linking up with the squad, and will lead out the side in search of a 3-0 series win after a brace of uplifting performances at Lord’s and Trent Bridge.Anderson, who claimed 11 wickets at 18.63 in the first two Tests to reaffirm his status as England’s attack leader, will sit the match out with an ankle niggle – partly with a view to next week’s delayed fifth Test against India at Edgbaston, which gets underway three days after the conclusion of the Headingley match, and which England need to win to secure a share of the series that was postponed last year due to Covid scare.Related

Everton must regret selling talent who’s now a bit like Haaland & Osimhen

Everton fans were permitted to glance through the looking glass on Wednesday evening, glimpsing a level of attacking authority that has scarcely been on show under Sean Dyche in the Premier League.

While Wolverhampton Wanderers were put to the sword in a 4-0 defeat at Goodison Park, Everton fans will be concerned that the match was just an outlier.

Orel Mangala

After such uninspiring results across the majority of the 2024/25 campaign, fans will understandably be worried that the excellent win proves to be nothing more than a flash in the pan, though the weekend fixture against Liverpool at Goodison Park stands as an opportunity to take their campaign to another, exultant level.

It’s an interesting hint of potential riches within this Toffees squad, but more is needed to cement attacking success. Change, for sure, is needed at number nine.

Everton need a new striker

Everton enjoyed a statement victory over Wolves, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin still failed to break his duck. The 27-year-old has now gone nine matches in the Premier League without a goal or an assist.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Admittedly, he showcased some of his qualities, winning five duels and holding up play neatly, but missed a great opportunity to score and looks like a shadow of the man who had been created into a “monster” under Carlo Ancelotti, as talent scout Jacek Kulig put it.

Armando Broja made his debut against Wolves, playing out the final few minutes. The Albania international has been sidelined with an injury after joining the Merseysiders on loan this summer. Everton have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the term.

Broja could be a solution in the years to come, but he’s suffered injuries throughout his young career and must not be overworked. There’s also Beto to consider. The hulking striker has enjoyed moments of promise this season but continues to play second fiddle under Dyche’s wing, and perhaps lacks the bite needed for a regular starting berth in the Premier League.

In any case, the victory over Wolves eased the goalscoring woes considerably, but Everton still lack a steady stream of firepower.

It’s a shame that they didn’t realise the qualities of Moise Kean, who would go right into the starting line-up were he under Dyche’s wing now.

Why Everton got rid of Moise Kean

Kean alighted in Merseyside with a weight of expectation back in 2019, signing from Juventus for a £25m fee. He was only 19 but had made an impression in his maiden days, scoring eight goals for the Old Lady and bagging twice over just three Italy caps.

With just four goals across 39 matches for Everton and a red card besides, Kean failed to make the grade but frankly suffered some stepping into a new country as a teenager, unable to find his feet and develop his confidence.

The whole ordeal was mitigated through Farhad Moshiri managing to engineer a £25m sale back to Juventus, meaning that the financial loss was alleviated considerably.

But Everton still failed to enjoy the quality of a talented young star who has since demonstrated that he does possess the skillset to thrive at the highest level. Further to that point, he still cost the Goodison Park side some £49k per week across the duration of his stay.

Even though the financial loss was minimised, it’s frustrating to watch him thrive at present.

Moise Kean's performances in 2024/25

To put it succinctly: Kean has been one of the most potent forces in Europe this season, scoring 13 goals from 16 appearances across all competitions.

His sharp scoring sense has indeed made him one of Italy’s most clinical forwards, Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui the only player in the division to have scored more goals (12) than him thus far this season.

Last season, journalist Carlo Garganese commented that the Italian’s “strength is scary” and that his “movement & dribbling has come on so much,” albeit lacking in end product.

Moise Kean in action for Fiorentina

No longer. As per FBref, the 23-year-old ranks among the top 7% of centre-forwards across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for goals scored and the top 5% for successful take-ons per 90.

His goalscoring successes have even pulled comparisons against some of Europe’s finest marksmen, namely, Erling Haaland and Victor Osimhen.

Haaland is one of the greatest goalscorers that the Premier League has ever seen, while Osimhen supercharged Napoli’s Scudetto-winning season of 2022/23 and is now out on loan with Galatasaray after a transfer fiasco in the summer.

FBref indeed records the prolific pairing as among Kean’s most statistically similar players, denoting the La Viola man’s wonderful skillset.

Moise Kean graphic

Hailed for his “fearless” approach by new Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel, it’s frustrating to think that Everton had such a talent in their brood, and failed to make the most of his budding talent.

One thing’s for certain: neither Calvert-Lewin nor Beto carry even a semblance of the likes of Osimhen and Haaland in regard to their goalscoring threat right now. Had things been different, Kean truly could have proved to be their very own version.
