Canada's Gill and Arslan see off Namibia's challenge

Namibia collapsed from 151 for 3 to 193 all out, a spell of play that cost them their game against Canada in the Under-19 World Cup

Having won the toss and opted to bat, they had got themselves into decent position, with each of their top five getting a start. However, by the end of their innings – they were bowled out in 46 overs – the captain Lohan Louwrens’ 38 was the highest score.Left-arm spinner Aran Pathmanathan triggered the flood of wickets when he took out the No. 4 batsman Eben van Wyk in the 34th over. Ten runs and three overs later, offspinner Rommel Shahzad struck and Namibia, once poised to take advantage of the final overs, were nothing short of floundering. Allrounder Akash Gill and new-ball bowler Rishiv Joshi struck in the 41st, 42nd and 43rd overs to leave nothing to chance.A hurting Namibia side began their defence with legspinner Petrus Burger and he sparked hope by dismissing Canada’s openers in successive overs. However, that brought the captain Arslan Khan to the crease and, together with Gill who had taken four wickets earlier in the day, he began repairing the innings. Arslan made 72, Gill struck 52 and Kevin Singh chipped in with a half-century as well to secure Canada their first points in the tournament.

Man United Make Contact For "Tall" 21 y/o

Manchester United have reportedly made contact over a move for midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, and Fabrizio Romano has shared Bayern Munich’s response.

Are Man United signing Ryan Gravenberch?

The Red Devils and Erik ten Hag have been productive so far this summer by bringing in Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund in three separate big-money deals.

However, the club’s spending spree may not be over just yet, although any further business could depend on any outgoings.

One area of improvement could be on another midfielder, with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat and Everton’s Amadou Onana just two players who have been heavily linked with an Old Trafford switch.

Ten Hag has previously worked with Amrabat, and Gravenberch has also featured under the United manager after coming through at Ajax. The 21-year-old made all of his Ajax appearances under Ten Hag, and it looks as if a reunion between the pair could be one to keep an eye on in the final weeks of the window.

After recent rumours of a Man United move for Gravenberch, Romano took to X to provide a further update on what he has heard regarding the midfielder’s future.

The transfer expert stated that both Manchester United and Liverpool called, and therefore made contact, to be kept in the loop over Gravenberch’s situation, however, it is believed that the German giants aren’t intending to sell.

“Manchester United and Liverpool called again this week to be informed about Ryan Gravenberch situation.

“Understand Bayern position remains the same as of today — no intention to sell Gravenberch. Both MUFC and LFC remain keen in case of last minute changes.”

How tall is Ryan Gravenberch?

Gravenberch can play as a central or holding midfielder and stands at 6ft 2. He has come in for plenty of praise during his career so far, with former Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann saying the player has ‘everything a footballer needs’, pinpointing his ‘fantastic’ dribbling ability.

“He has my complete confidence. He also knows exactly what he needs to fit our style of play perfectly. He has everything a footballer needs. He has a fantastic dribble and can play out under the pressure.

“Ryan is better than most other footballers in Europe his age. You must have patience. This is Bayern Munich. You have to be better than the other players because there is no reason for me not to field the best."

Meanwhile, Brian Tevreden, a coach who promoted Gravenberch to Ajax’s Under 15s team as a 12-year-old, compared the player to both Frank Rijkaard and former United man Paul Pogba due to his height and technical ability.

“Physically, I see Frank in him from back in the day because he’s tall and very strong. But technically, I would say he’s a better version of Pogba in his best days at Juventus, in terms of his technique and his presence on the pitch.”

His versatility and experience at the highest level for Ajax and Bayern Munich could make him a smart signing by the Red Devils to strengthen their midfield options even further, and by the looks of things, United are monitoring the situation.

Newcastle: Howe Eyeing Ambitious Swoop For "Outstanding" £69m Gem

Newcastle United's summer transfer window has gone off without a hitch thus far, and with the 23/24 Premier League season a matter of days away, Eddie Howe will be confident that he can pick up where his high-flying side left off.

The business conducted has been evenly spread, a calculated and diligent effort to bolster a squad already oiled and refined, with playmaker Sandro Tonali, winger Harvey Barnes and precocious full-back Tino Livramento joining the first-team fold for a combined £125m.

While the Magpies look set to pick up where they left off, technical director Dan Ashworth has been keeping his eye on the market and is believed to be considering a move for a prodigious talent in Florian Wirtz.

What's the latest on Florian Wirtz to Newcastle?

Following news from Spanish sources, Newcastle are keen to convince the young German playmaker to leave Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and join the exciting project at St. James' Park.

The exciting talent, aged just 20, would reportedly be available for €80m (£69m), and Howe might be inclined to lodge a formal offer to consolidate the club's resounding return to the Champions League.

Who is Florian Wirtz?

Once described as a "phenomenal" composed presence by teammate Jonathan Tah, Wirtz plays with a swagger and maturity to belie his age, having even received praise for his likeness to a young Lionel Messi by Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.

This burgeoning 'phenom' certainly looks the part of a first-rate offensive force, having returned from a lengthy ACL injury – so often detrimental for a player in the early phase of their career – to plunder four goals and eight assists from just 19 starting appearances across all competitions last season.

Indeed, as per FBref, the eight-cap Germany international ranks among the top 4% of attacking midfielders and wingers over the past year for assists and shot-creating actions, the top 6% for progressive passes and the top 1% for successful take-ons per 90, earning a comparison through the website's 'similar players' page to new Liverpool signing Dominik Szoboszlai.

Jurgen Klopp's side pulled off the £60m deal to sign Szoboszlai from German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig despite sources such as The Athletic linking Howe's outfit with a move for the Hungarian, and securing Wirtz's signature could prove to be a deal to eclipse the impact of the Reds' new man.

Szoboszlai, lauded as a "generational talent" by journalist Marcel Moeller, clinched 42 direct goal contributions from 91 outings for Die Roten Bullen before making the move to Merseyside this summer, and he brings the offensive fluidity, energy levels and dynamism that Klopp so dearly craved and Newcastle were sold on too.

dominik-szoboszlai-liverpool-transfer-news-premier-league

The 22-year-old ranks among the top 14% of positional peers for assists, the top 9% for shot-creating actions, the top 14% for progressive passes, the top 11% for blocks and the top 13% for clearances per 90, which further highlights the creative prowess that Wirtz also boasts, given the aforementioned comparison.

Newcastle were emphatic in their efforts last season and secured a top-four finish to return to the Champions League after two decades away, and it now signifies a watershed moment for a proud and prestigious outfit that have languished for so long.

The increments are being made and the progress is clear; the Magpies are on an irrevocable rise once more and the opportunity to sign some of Europe's greatest talents is very much within Howe's clutches.

Hailed as the "total package" and an "outstanding technician" by former Germany boss Hansi Flick, Wirtz is an indisputable prodigy and could not only cement his name into the Toon team sheet but prove to be the steal of the summer, making an impact to rival that of Szoboszlai's at Liverpool, who will be desperate to reclaim their place in the Champions League this year.

Arsenal Could Sign "Powerful" £34m Gem To Ease Jesus Burden

Arsenal secured their first piece of silverware of the season yesterday, but had to do so without their main marksman once again…

Is Gabriel Jesus injured?

With Gabriel Jesus having undergone knee surgery just last week, the Brazilian limped about Wembley Stadium as he watched his side battle from a goal down to defeat Manchester City on penalties.

Whilst the initial synopsis suggested his absence would only stretch to "a few weeks", when he suffered the same fate in December 2022, he did not play again until mid-March.

Therefore, the recent report by TEAMtalk makes perfect sense, as it notes that the Gunners have enquired about the possibility of signing Montpellier forward Elye Wahi.

Read the latest Arsenal transfer news HERE…

With the persisting ailments plaguing the 26-year-old, perhaps such an acquisition could prove instrumental in ensuring there is little to no drop in quality when Jesus inevitably gets injured again during the campaign. However, it is noted that the French outfit will demand a lofty fee of €40m (£34m) for his services.

How good is Elye Wahi?

When fit, few forwards suit Mikel Arteta's system as perfectly as Jesus. He is tricky, deceptively strong, creative and clinical, with the athleticism and intelligence to lead a press too.

Last campaign also saw him post 11 goals and assist a further seven across just 26 Premier League appearances, outlining how their offensive threat skyrockets when he is in the team.

However, peering back through his entire injury history, it is clear to see that the recent bout of trauma is not merely misfortune. He has a record of struggling with his fitness, and therefore it could be argued that he alone cannot be trusted to lead the line for a full campaign.

That suggests that the potential swoop for Wahi could prove incredibly profitable, to offer a fine alternative for when Jesus is absent, and potentially one day usurp him.

After all, he does show steady signs of improvement with each passing year, thriving in his homeland with pace, power and prolific finishing.

mikel-arteta

Last season saw the 20-year-old post 19 goals and assist a further six in Ligue 1 alone, building upon his ten-goal haul from the term prior. Given his natural goalscoring progression, the 2023/24 season could see the Frenchman shatter records.

However, Wahi offers far more than just a focal point, as his speed and link-up play is mightily impressive for someone so young. Whilst he might offer a wildly different style to Jesus, he could prove just as effective in leading that press that makes the Brazilian so invaluable.

The young forward posted 0.7 key passes per game last campaign in the French top-flight, alongside an admirable 71% pass accuracy to emphasise his ability to bring others into the game, via Sofascore.

Ex-Caen academy director Francis de Taddeo has also emphasised his physical assets in the past, stating: "He is a powerful, athletic and fast player with a range of dribbling skills where only he knows what he is going to do next."

After that fine showing against their title rivals, Arteta seemingly has little to worry about going into the new Premier League season. However, the fitness of Jesus remains a sole issue that could be solved with one final foray into the market.

Carlos Alcaraz Names Amazing Dream Football Starting 11

Even whilst Carlos Alcaraz was busy cementing himself among the best tennis players around right now, defeating Novak Djokovic to take the Wimbledon crown, the 20-year-old still had time to name his dream football XI.

Still at such a young age, the Spaniard's football knowledge extends to years before he could have really experienced the beautiful game. On top of that, he had the privilege of growing up watching football in an era full of stars. We're talking Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andreas Iniesta, and Thierry Henry. It's no wonder he was keen to name his dream team.

With that said, we've taken a look at who was included in his line-up.

Who won Wimbledon 2023?

Impressing the tennis world by defeating Djokovic on grass, Alcaraz placed his name among the best in the world by winning Wimbledon.

Getting past Jeremy Chardy in the First Round, the Spaniard went on to defeat Alexandre Muller, Nicolas Jarry, Matteo Berrettini, Holger Rune, and Danni Medvedev to set up the final against Djokovic.

In picking up the win, Alcaraz became the first player not named Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, or Andy Murray to win Wimbledon since 2002 – when the Spaniard wasn't even born yet.

Speaking on the win, the 20-year-old said: "Beating Novak, winning Wimbledon, is something that I dreamed about since I started playing tennis.

"It's the happiest moment of my life. I think it's not going to change for a long time."

Who was included in Carlos Alcaraz's dream football XI?

Starting in goal, the tennis star named Iker Casillas as his number one, which comes as no surprise given Alcaraz's Spanish nationality. He stuck with the Spanish theme throughout the backline, too, naming both Sergio Ramos and Carles Puyol, before going down the Brazilian route with his full-backs by naming Roberto Carlos and Cafu.

It gets even more impressive as it goes on. The midfield is aesthetically as good as it gets, and not many would stand a chance at getting the ball off them. Alcaraz named Luka Modric, Zinedine Zidane, and Iniesta.

Can we just take a second to imagine that trio together? It would simply be unfair on anyone who dared to commence a battle of technique in the middle of the park.

The team peaks in the frontline, though, with Messi combining with Ronaldo, and the legendary Brazilian Ronaldo. It simply wouldn't be a dream team without those three.

You can see the full line-up below:

Looking at the team as a whole, Alcaraz has arguably done a perfect job, combining the best players across different eras to make what would undoubtedly be an unstoppable side. For the sake of European football, it's a good job that it's a mere fantasy, and only that.

If we could find one criticism, it would be certain players who were unlucky to miss out. There could be a shout for Sergio Busquets, for example, who remains one of the most underrated players of all time. The Barcelona man would add the perfect defensive balance to allow the likes of Iniesta and Zidane to do what they do best.

No doubt, many of you will also be able to think of others who were also deserving of a spot – but, of course, football is a game of differing opinions after all.

Rangers Have "Completed" £5.4m Transfer Deal For Cyriel Dessers

Glasgow Rangers have “completed” a deal to bring Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers to the Scottish Premiership, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Are Rangers signing Cyriel Dessers?

Back in June, Football Insider claimed that the Sky Blues had opened talks regarding a deal for the 28-year-old, who is claimed to be a long-term target of Michael Beale, and it wasn’t long before he had convinced the player to get on side.

Reliable reporter Scott Burns stated that the Nigeria international is “keen on a move” to join the Gers with part of his reasoning being that he wants to experience playing football in the Champions League, something which the outfit north of the border can provide regardless of how far in the competition that they get.

The Glasgow outfit just yesterday were stated to have welcomed the attacker for a medical after he agreed to signing a five-year contract following the acceptance of a bid, and the final price tag between the two parties has now been decided and also made public knowledge.

Taking to Twitter, the ever-on-the-ball transfer guru Romano revealed that Rangers have now finished negotiations for Dessers who is set to imminently be unveiled as the manager’s latest arrival. He wrote:

“Rangers have completed Cyriel Dessers deal with Cremonese — it will be done and sealed on Tuesday. Understand Rangers will pay €5m (£4.2m) fee plus €1.5m (£1.2m) in add-ons.”

Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers.

Will Dessers be a good signing for Rangers?

Following the departure of Alfredo Morelos, Rangers recruited Sam Lammers from Atalanta to take his place, but one centre-forward reinforcement clearly wasn’t enough for Beale who has turned his attention towards Dessers, and it’s no surprise he’s caught his eye.

The Stirr Associates client has racked up nine goal contributions (seven goals and two assists) in 29 appearances for a struggling Cremonese side and last season recorded a total of 49 shots over the course of the campaign, which was the second-highest throughout his squad, as per FBRef.

The Tongeren native will also provide the boss with plenty of versatility with his ability to operate everywhere across the frontline, including as a second striker and out wide on both the left and right flanks alongside his usual role through the middle, making him a great option to have in the building.

The Teddy Bears will want to create a squad this summer that are capable of seriously competing for titles and silverware with their Old Firm rivals Celtic, and with the calibre of players including Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell and Abdallah Sima who have put pen to paper so far, the incoming attacker will only strengthen the boss’ ranks even further.

Whether Beale’s thought process will be to play Lammers and Dessers up top alongside each other as a pair or use one of them as the main striker and the other as a back-up yet remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, he’ll be spoilt for choice with the positive impact and strong force that the two of them are likely to create together.

Chelsea Keeping Tabs On £24m-Rated World-Cup Winning Star

Chelsea are keeping tabs on Emiliano Martinez this summer, according to a report from Football Transfers.

How many games has Emiliano Martinez played for Aston Villa?

The 30-year-old has become a first-team regular for Aston Villa since his switch to the Premier League outfit back in 2020/21, having struggled to get frequent minutes at former club Arsenal. He missed only two games in the entirety of the 2022/23 season, playing 36 games for the Villans and conceding only 38 along the way. It meant he had a rate of just 1.09 goals against per 90 – his best ever in a full season.

Martinez then is currently at the top of his game it seems – and that is why bigger clubs are now sniffing around the shot-stopper. According to a report from Football Transfers, there is indeed interest in his services this summer, with Chelsea set to battle Man United to try and snap up the goalkeeper.

With Mauricio Pochettino now in charge at Stamford Bridge, it has led to the player being placed on the side's transfer radar as the former Spurs boss is believed to be a personal admirer of the player. The Premier League side though are yet to launch an official offer – United have not done so either as of yet.

It's unclear just how much a potential deal for Martinez might cost. There is no fee mentioned in the report and with no official bid lodged yet, there is no estimation as to how much a transfer may set one of the interested parties back. Transfermarkt suggest that his value is currently around the 28 million Euro mark (or £24m), which wouldn't be a huge amount if that was the case, but would still represent a profit on the player for Villa.

Emiliano Martinez

What has been said about Emiliano Martinez?

Considering how much he may cost, it may be worth Chelsea actually launching a bid for his services soon. Football journalist Josh Bunting called him "incredible" because of his performances for Argentina and added that he always "delivers" in "real pressure" moments.

Martinez is clearly a leader who thrives on the biggest stage then and that would suit the Blues down to the ground, as they look to try and push on and become the trophy-winning force they have so often been in the 21st century.

Spurs interested in £50m Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in adding Marc Guehi to their defensive line this summer as Ange Postecoglou readies himself for a spending spree.

Will Tottenham sign Marc Guehi?

News of Tottenham's interest in the centre-back has come from Charlie Eccleshare, a Spurs correspondent for The Athletic, who announced that the club have been looking into the Englishman's signature for a while.

Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, Eccleshare stated: "Marc Guehi is another one who I've heard mentioned. He is someone Spurs have been looking at for a while. Really good player. Really, really talented, I think he would fit the bill".

Tottenham have been strongly linked with a number of centre-backs during the transfer window already, with Fabrizio Romano recently reporting that Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba is also on the club's radar. Clement Lenglet, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham, has also been touted with a permanent move.

Guehi would be a major coup for Postecoglou if a deal can be struck, especially considering the 22-year-old has already reportedly attracted interest from Champions League clubs Arsenal and Manchester United.

Signing Guehi would not be cheap, however, with Palace reportedly wanting £50m to part ways with the former Chelsea man. Considering Spurs need to strengthen heavily across their squad for next season, spending such a large sum on one player may not be wise with potentially cheaper alternatives out there.

The Lilywhites have already captured Dejan Kulusevski's signature on a permanent deal, spending £25m in the process, while they are closing in on a new goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario. Spurs are also heavily linked with Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

Why do Spurs want Guehi?

Guehi enjoyed a fruitful season with Crystal Palace last season, playing 37 times in the Premier League. A modern defender, Guehi has a good range of accurate passing, with a 91% short pass and 93.2% medium pass completion percentage.

While his long range passing accuracy is significantly worse (just 56.3%), he ranked in the top 14% of Premier League centre-backs for attempted long passes, meaning he's willing to take risks to switch possession.

Marc-Guehi

Guehi is very comfortable with the ball at his feet, ranking in the top 12% of centre-backs for successful take-ons last term. Willing to play his way out of trouble, the defender could be exactly what Postecoglou is looking for in his new system at Tottenham.

The Eagles man is also comfortable playing on the left-hand side of a back two, despite being right-footed, and at 22 has plenty of time to improve his game. He also finished runner-up in Crystal Palace's Player of the Season vote last campaign, showing how well respected he is at Selhurst Park.
