Matheus Fernandes ocupa a vaga dele no Estádio Nilton Santos, nesta partida.

Everton manager update on Conte, Potter

Some Everton fans have been left to fume as a manager update emerged on Antonio Conte, Graham Potter and Nuno Espirito Santo.

As per the Daily Telegraph, the Goodison Park faithful still hold an interest in Nuno Espirito Santo, while they have also made enquiries over the availability of both Antonio Conte and Graham Potter.

While each manager has their own merits, and have each tasted some level of success in the Premier League, there are certainly question marks over whether they would be the right fit at the Merseyside club.

Potter may not be able to make what is quite a big step up from Brighton and Hove Albion to the Toffees, while Nuno endured a disappointing 2020/21 season with Wolves, finishing in a measly 13th spot in the table.

Conte has come off the back of a title-winning campaign with Inter Milan, but has been known to fall out with various boards at certain clubs he has managed, including Chelsea.

These Blues supporters fumed as the manager update was shared across Twitter:

“Conte would absolutely be the wrong fit! The man is a ruthless winner and has publicly fell out with Chelsea’s and Inter’s boards for not matching his ambition despite winning league titles.. I would imagine he will walk out of the door after 2 months at Everton!”

Roberts tips Liverpool icon for Spurs job

Graham Roberts has claimed that Steven Gerrard would be an excellent appointment for Tottenham Hotspur this summer in an exclusive interview with Football FanCast.

The Liverpool legend has done superb work at the Scottish club this term.

They have won the Scottish Premiership at a canter, finishing the season unbeaten and with 102 points from 38 games.

Rangers ended the campaign 25 points ahead of Old Firm rivals Celtic and Spurs are, of course, on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Jose Mourinho.

Ryan Mason is currently in interim charge of the club but it is expected that he will step aside for the next permanent boss, whomever they may be.

Roberts played for Spurs between 1980 and 1986 before making the move to Rangers, and spending two years with the Scottish giants.

It remains to be seen if Gerrard, who said that he ‘loved’ Kane back in 2017, would be willing to leave the club with whom he has just won his first ever league title, especially for a rival to Liverpool, but Roberts believes he would be an exceptional appointment.

He told FFC: “You’ve got Steven Gerrard at Rangers.

“I think he’ll stay there but he’s done absolutely unbelievable. He would be a great choice.”

Liverpool fans love Harvey Elliott’s tattoo

A number of Liverpool fans have been lauding Harvey Elliott’s new tattoo, highlighting how much the Reds mean to the on-loan youngster.

The 18-year-old looks one of the most exciting young players at Anfield, having initially arrived from Fulham back in 2019.

Elliott managed to make eight appearances last season, catching the eye for his boyhood club, but Jurgen Klopp felt a loan move was required in 2019/20.

Blackburn Rovers snapped up the young forward back in October and he has excelled in the Championship, scoring six goals and registering 11 assists.

Elliott could return to Liverpool this summer and become a fixture in the first-team squad  if that form is anything to go by, and it’s clear to see what he thinks of life at Anfield.

On Thursday, LFC Transfer Room (@LFCTransferRoom) shared an image on Twitter of the forward having a new tattoo done – one that seemingly shows him as a young boy in a Liverpool shirt.

RFC: Lazio want Ianis Hagi at all costs

According to recent reports from Romania, Glasgow Rangers attacking midfielder, Ianis Hagi, is attracting the interest of Lazio this summer, with Steven Gerrard facing a battle to keep the Gers man at Ibrox.

The report by Sport.ro (via Sport Witness) claims that the Serie A side are determined to land Hagi at any cost this summer, and are prepared to offer Rangers a sum of around €13 million (£11.2 million) for the midfielder’s services.

Indeed, Gazzetta dello Sport also reported last month that Lazio are keen to bolster their attacking options in the summer transfer window and that the £5.4 million-rated 22-year-old is on the Italian side’s shortlist, with the Gazzetta suggesting it would take an offer of around €10 million (£8.5 million) for Gerrard to consider parting with the Romania international.

Transfer Tavern Take

While Hagi has impressed over his 28 Scottish Premiership appearances so far this season, with the midfielder scoring six goals and providing nine assists, as well as averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.93, should Lazio indeed submit an offer of around €13 million for the 22-year-old this summer, it would certainly be interesting to see how Rangers respond – considering the Ibrox side paid KRC Genk just £3.15 million for Hagi last summer.

However, with Gerrard claiming earlier this season that the Romanian is an “absolute dream” to work with, it would not appear likely that the Gers boss will let Hagi go without putting up a considerable fight.

Sutton names trio for Celtic to build around

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has said that only Callum McGregor, David Turnbull and Stephen Welsh stand out as players exempt from a looming squad overhaul at Parkhead.

Interim boss John Kennedy will oversee the concluding four games of the season before the club make a final decision on Neil Lennon’s long-term managerial successor.

Kennedy has been unable to salvage the Hoops’ campaign. On Sunday, they were beaten 2-0 by arch-rivals Rangers in the Scottish Cup fourth round, a result which confirms their first trophyless season since 2010.

They are also 20 points adrift of Steven Gerrard’s men in the league table, a damning state of affairs.

‘Practically a blank sheet of paper’ for incoming Celtic boss

Writing in his Record Sport column, Sutton predicted that Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer would follow loanees Mohamed Elyounoussi, Jonjoe Kenny and Diego Laxalt out the door.

In his eyes, only McGregor – set to take over as captain as Scott Brown heads to Aberdeen – midfielder Turnbull and centre-back Welsh are guaranteed to be part of the long-term picture.

“It’s practically a blank sheet of paper,” Sutton wrote.

“What’s on it? Callum McGregor, David Turnbull are on there, you maybe give youngster Stephen Welsh the benefit of the doubt even if he wasn’t at his best against Rangers.”

Sutton added: “It’s a heck of a shopping list at Celtic Park if they are to even think about having a chance of wrestling the title off Rangers next season.”

At the start of the month, it was reported that Celtic were on the verge of appointing former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.

However, no announcement has followed, and Football Insider have claimed that the 43-year-old has entertained a rival approach from Crystal Palace.

Transfer Tavern verdict

If you were a Rangers fan assessing Celtic’s predicament, you would be licking your lips. With a summer of upheaval ahead, it seems unlikely that they will be unable to strike back quickly, even under new management.

Their crosstown rivals have looked a level above this season, progressing to the Europa League round of 16 and going 34 league matches unbeaten.

In terms of the players who will still be at Parkhead next term, Sutton is justified in advocating the cases of Turnbull, McGregor and Welsh based on their generally solid performances throughout the current campaign.

In other news, this reported Celtic managerial candidate fears he has been overlooked.

Leeds facing Liverpool battle for Teun Koopmeiners

Leeds could deliver a big message to Marcelo Bielsa by landing AZ Alkmaar ace Teun Koopmeiners this summer amid reported transfer interest from Liverpool.

What’s the story?

In a list of options suggested by The Athletic’s Phil Hay as potential cover for Kalvin Phillips, Koopmeiner’s name came into the discussion, with the suggestion that he could be set for a move away from his native Netherlands in the summer.

Italian publication Calciomercato have now claimed that fellow Premier League side Liverpool are keen on signing the Dutchman, who they see as a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

Could be big message to Bielsa

In some player analysis done by The Athletic, it was suggested that: “Koopmeiners has more of an attacking profile than Phillips (something that might fit with Bielsa’s standards of versatility) and there is a lot to like about him. He stands out as a very good all-rounder in top-flight terms: an extremely strong tackler who mirrors Phillips in his constant attempts to look for forward passes rather than lateral balls.

“While the match with Phillips is not perfect, it is close enough to suggest that Koopmeiners is an asset Bielsa could refine with coaching.”

Described as a “leader” by his former coach Koen Stam, Koopmeiners is AZ Alkmaar’s captain, and as well as being a talented footballer, would be another important voice in the dressing room.

Perhaps just as importantly on a bigger scale, his signing would show that Leeds mean business. Fending off competition from outgoing Premier League champions Liverpool to his signature would signal to Bielsa that the Whites are intent on taking that next step forward – a vital message to convey when you consider that the Argentine’s current contract is coming to an end this summer.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Latest Leeds transfer rumours and news”]

While Bielsa seems more than happy at Elland Road, landing a key target like this would be the perfect way to prove to the manager that the club are ready to back him in the transfer market.

It’s all in Victor Orta’s hands to beat Liverpool to the 1.83m (6 foot) Koopmeiners now.

Meanwhile, Leeds could sign an ideal partner for Kalvin Phillips in this star…
