Barcelona fans react to Lionel Messi injury update

Barcelona’s day suddenly got a lot worse and for once, it’s not about Neymar Junior.

RAC1, usually a really reliable source for all things Barcelona, came out with news that Lionel Messi’s injury has taken a turn for the worse and that the Blaugrana’s star player will be out for longer than expected – potentially another month.

Messi has already missed the first two clashes against Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis but was recovering well and everything pointed towards a quick return to action.

Still, if this news is to be believed, we won’t be seeing the Argentine on the pitch for a while longer.

And it’s safe to say that the news left most of the Barcelona fans in disbelief as they were all looking forward to seeing the little magician play after a while out. Messi has been carrying this injury since he returned back from his holiday.

You can see some of the reactions of the fans in the tweets below:

Luckily for Barcelona, though, it seems that the extent of the injury is not as bad as was initially thought but Messi will take somewhat longer to return nonetheless.

Celtic fans react positively to Greg Taylor’s arrival from Kilmarnock

Celtic announced on Monday evening that they had completed a move for Greg Taylor, who has arrived at the Scottish champions from Kilmarnock.

The 21-year-old, who will seemingly battle Boli Bolingoli for the left-back spot following Kieran Tierney’s departure, has signed a four-year deal with Neil Lennon’s side.

The Scotland international was a youth player at Rangers before joining Kilmarnock in 2014.

Taylor made 131 appearances during his time with Killie – contributing one goal and 10 assists for the club in all competitions.

In an interview published on Celtic’s official website, the full-back said that he was “over the moon” to have completed a move to the Scottish champions.

A number of Celtic fans have since taken to social media to comment on the arrival.

And it would be fair to say that the club’s supporters are pleased with the business in the final hours of the transfer window.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson posts on Instagram after England win

Jordan Henderson took to Instagram after the game, and his message was loud and clear.

He thanked the fans for their support, but he immediately went on to say that there were plenty of things to improve on.

It’s hard to disagree with Henderson. Conceding three goals at home against the team placed 120th in the FIFA world rankings simply isn’t good enough.

If Gareth Southgate’s side are to lift any silverware in the coming years, they will need players like Henderson in the squad.

His attitude of never resting on his laurels and always looking to improve is a fantastic thing to have in the camp, and after the win on Tuesday he was quickly looking at how the team’s performance could have been better, rather than enjoying the three points.

Watford sack manager Javi Gracia and appoint Quique Sanchez Flores

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Watford have sacked manager Javi Gracia and reappointed Quique Sanchez Flores to replace him.

What’s the word?

The Hornets are currently rock-bottom of the Premier League, having drawn one and lost three of their opening four games; they drew 1-1 with Newcastle United last time out following successive losses to Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton and West Ham United.

The Hornets board have subsequently taken action by sacking Gracia, who guided the club to an 11th-placed finish last season as well as to the FA Cup final, though they were beaten 6-0 by Manchester City.

Flores has been appointed as his successor; he managed the club in the 2015/16 campaign as they finished 13th.

A bizarre move

This is a bit of a weird one from Watford.

They have not taken a step forward with the reappointment of a manager who took the club to a worse finish than that achieved in 2018/19.

One feels that Gracia deserved some time, particularly after their excellent FA Cup run.

But the club have seen differently and, thus, there is pressure on the club to turn it around.

That is all well and good but their next two games come against Arsenal and City.

Good luck, Quique.

Tottenham fans react as Juventus enter race to sign Troy Parrott

[ad_pod ]

Having seen Harry Kane come through the ranks and take the world by storm, Tottenham are understandably excited with the prospect of Troy Parrott doing the same in the future.

The 17-year-old is highly-rated by the north London side, having scored 22 times in 32 academy appearances.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino gave him an opportunity in pre-season, and the Irishman didn’t disappoint, starring against the Turin outfit in particular.

Unsurprisingly, it appears sides across Europe have taken notice of Parrott’s development. Italian publication Calcio Mercato claim Serie A giants Juventus have joined the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in entering the race to sign the teenager.

The report adds Pochettino is against losing him however, particularly after seeing fellow Spurs youngster Marcus Edwards make his north London exit earlier this summer.

After hearing the rumours linking Parrott with a move away, Tottenham fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters of the north London side issued a hands-off message to Juventus et al and told them to “stay away” from Parrott.

Manchester United fans discuss Romelu Lukaku after he scores in the Milan derby

[ad_pod ]

Some Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to discuss their former striker Romelu Lukaku, after the forward found the back of the net in the Milan derby between Inter and AC Milan.

The Red Devils sold the Belgium international back in the summer for a fee of £74m, and Lukaku has shone since teaming up with Antonio Conte at the San Siro.

The 26-year-old has three goals in just four Serie A appearances for the Italian giants, and while Marcus Rashford has struggled of late – two of his three league goals this term have been penalties, whereas he has also missed another spot-kick against Crystal Palace – Lukaku’s form has got the United fans on Twitter talking.

One supporter said that the former Chelsea man was the best striker at the club, while another asked someone to remind him why the Premier League giants sold Lukaku.

Let’s take a look at some more of the Twitter reaction…

Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden shouldn’t have been sent off, says Chris Sutton

There were plenty of talking points after Leicester City beat Newcastle United 5-0 on Sunday.Plenty of conversations will have happened up and down the country about Leicester’s potential top four credentials, Steve Bruce’s future at St James’ Park and Jamie Vardy’s excellence, but one thing that surely wasn’t a contentious point was Isaac Hayden’s red card.Even Graeme Souness said it was a sending off “all day long”.Jonathan Woodgate claims Middlesbrough are a bigger club than Newcastle. Watch a Magpie fan’s hilarious response in the video below…However, there’s always one person looking for an argument, and this time it was Chris Sutton.

The BT Sport pundit passionately defended the Newcastle midfielder, stating that he got the ball first and that his momentum carried him through.

It’s really hard to agree with Sutton on this one. Hayden’s challenge could have seriously injured Dennis Praet, and there really is no room for that in the modern game.

Yes, Hayden got the ball first, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t out of control when flying into the dangerous challenge.

It was certainly a red card by the letter of the law, and Sutton’s view seems rather dated as tackles like that may have been acceptable back in his playing days.

Sheffield Wednesday fans hail Massimo Luongo after goalscoring performance

Sheffield Wednesday got back on track with three points on Saturday afternoon following their first defeat of the season under new boss Garry Monk in midweek.

Massimo Luongo’s goal in his first start for the club was enough to separate the Owls from Wigan Athletic, meaning they move to within one point of a playoff spot.

The Australian’s strike came just before the hour mark when he slammed home from 15 yards out from Adam Reach’s cut-back pass.

Wigan could have equalised minutes later when Kieffer Moore’s header was directed onto the crossbar by Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood.

The home side also had a potential Steven Fletcher goal ruled out for offside.

Luongo has had to wait for his opportunity under Monk, making just five appearances from the bench this season, and Sam Hutchinson’s suspension brought that chance on Saturday.

Fans were clearly impressed with what they saw as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his performance.

One supporter claimed that Luongo showed why he should always be starting games while another said his finish was ‘pure class.’

The midfielder has been capped 43 times for Australia and made the move to Hillsborough in the summer, joining from Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee.

Other fans described him as ‘magic’ and ‘different class.’

Liverpool’s Naby Keita should improve thanks to language boost

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Jurgen Klopp has revealed a boost for Naby Keita that may well have been holding him back earlier in his Anfield career – his language skills.

What’s the word?

Speaking about the Guinea international during the build-up to the clash with Red Bull Salzburg, Klopp revealed that Keita is now chatting with the boss in English.

As quoted in The Liverpool Echo, Klopp said: “The last talk I had with him was in English and it looked like he understood what I said. That is a big step. He is here long enough now. It was a big step for him to come here from Leipzig with big expectations, and hopefully you all still remember how good he started.â€

He continued: “He is a smart boy so football-wise it is not a problem. The tactical things are obvious, they are clear, and he was in pre-season with us so he has done all the important stuff. But understanding the language helps massively.”

Major boost

Klopp’s tendency to slowly bed signings in – just like he did with Andy Robertson and Fabinho – has often been attributed to a difficulty adjusting to his high-level tactics.

The chaotic gegenpressing of the German’s early career is a thing of the past, with the Reds now representing a more controlled and dominant counter-pressing style – only Manchester City and Chelsea keep the ball more than the Reds this season.

And with Keita switching from a Red Bull Leipzig side who usually used him in a 4-2-3-1 formation to a Klopp team that is nearly always set up with a midfield three, there was always going to be some teething issues.

That said, adding problems with the language to that would have made it almost impossible for the 24 year-old to replicate his Leipzig form, so Klopp’s comments should be music to fans’ ears, with some fans already deducing that the language barrier was a factor.

The gaffer even says that football-wise there was “not a problemâ€, implying it was really his inability to comprehend the complexities in Liverpool’s style that was holding him back.

With the manager now saying Keita’s improved understanding of English “helps massively†we should expect to see a completely different player to the one who largely disappointed in his debut campaign.

Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino in Catch-22 situation as he looks to improve form

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

It is clear that things aren’t going well for Tottenham at the moment, and to make matters worse there is no clear solution to their problems.

Mauricio Pochettino has been unable to control matters on and off the pitch in recent weeks as player discontent seems rife, and that has led to some shocking results.

Several key players are allegedly unhappy, leading some to make movements to leave, and such ill-feeling is having an adverse effect on performances, with one win in five games.

Christian Eriksen, for example, has made no secret of his desire to depart for Real Madrid, and the Dane has subsequently returned just one goal and one assist in 11 appearances.

As a result, Pochettino could be tempted to grant young players more opportunities. He has done so in the recent past with Juan Foyth, Kyle Walker-Peters and Oliver Skipp examples of recent breakthroughs, but now he may feel he has to play them more often out of necessity.

Youngsters often have the hunger and desire to impress, showing effort and commitment in the process, and that could lead the Argentine to utilise them more often.

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

However, doing so risks Spurs’ chances of success this campaign, particularly their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League for a fifth consecutive season.

It is a lot to ask a young player to perform at a consistent level over the course of 30-40 games, particularly to the standards set by senior players over the past few years, and it would mark a change in Tottenham’s strategy to bed in youngsters gradually.

Pochettino has seemingly already lost a little faith in Walker-Peters, for example, who has vanished from the matchday squad on his return from injury having started the first three league games of the season.

Despite that, it is a course of action that would probably sit well with Tottenham fans, with some calling for Foyth and Walker-Peters to come into the side in the hope that getting rid of “uncommitted” players improves a defence which has conceded 11 goals in the previous three matches.

Pochettino must therefore decide the best course of action to take, and quickly, as the team’s current form means they would likely miss out on the Champions League qualification, and that could be critical to the club long-term.

Spurs spent big in the summer to keep up with their top-six rivals, but given they offloaded an estimated £1 billion on their new stadium they need all the income they can garner – and the Champions League is key to that.

Equally important is maintaining their appeal to players who may be more likely to overlook them in favour of a rival due to the comparative club sizes and the wages made available to them.
