Celtic: Kieran Devlin drops Reo Hatate claim

Celtic correspondent Kieran Devlin dropped some inside information on January signing Reo Hatate following his starring display in the Glasgow Derby on Wednesday.

The Lowdown: Hatate at the double

Hatate, who cost the Hoops just £1.38m last month, netted twice and provided an assist for Liel Abada as Ange Postecoglou’s side blew Rangers away in the opening 45 minutes.

The 24-year-old also contributed defensively in a three-man midfield, winning four duels and making two tackles during his 73-minute display, ending with a SofaScore match rating of 8.8/10.

Hatate, who can also play on the left, now has four goal contributions in as many games in green and white, and Devlin shared some information from the Hoops dressing room regarding the Japanese star.

The Latest: Devlin’s claim

Devlin shared a story on The Athletic the morning after the Glasgow Derby win and touched on Hatate.

He relayed comments from Postecoglou, who believes ‘he will improve’, with Devlin adding:

“Despite his late arrival, sources close to the first team say his transition has been smooth and his understanding of what Postecoglou wants from his No 8s is “scarily” instinctive.”

The Verdict: Scary indeed

Hatate has taken to Postecoglou’s system with ease and along with another winter addition, Matt O’Riley, have been the club’s best performers, as per WhoScored.

The crazy part is Hatate isn’t thought to be up to speed in terms of completing 90 minutes, which explains why he has been replaced in three of his four Celtic appearances.

When he is at full fitness, we could see even more from the versatile star, which explains Devlin’s ‘scary’ claim.

Lucas Lima buscou bastante o jogo.

Gol no segundo tempo

O Palmeiras voltou do intervalo com Fernando Prass, Mayke, Emerson Santos, Juninho e Victor Luis; Thiago Santos, Bruno Henrique e Guerra; Michel Bastos, Willian e Deyverson.

Terceiro tempo tenso

O time que encerrou o jogo-treino teveJailson, Fabiano, Pedrão, Thiago Martins e Emerson Santos; Thiago Santos, Bruno Henrique e Hyoran; Artur, Allione e Deyverson.

Leeds must finally unleash Nohan Kenneh

With the Premier League set to get back underway soon, Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa will be desperately hoping that his side incurs far fewer injuries and illnesses than they did in the first half of the season.

The Whites were among the most affected clubs in the top flight, with numerous star players ruled out for considerable amounts of time – Kalvin Phillips is still out of action now.

While Bielsa will be eager to keep his thin squad together for as long as possible, there may well be increasing opportunities for some of his club’s brightest young prospects.

Joe Gelhardt has already seen some first-team action in recent weeks and months, but it’s Nohan Kenneh’s potential exposure into the side which could cause the most excitement.

Describing himself as someone who is “aggressive and hard-working who likes to break down play”, but also likes “getting forward and scoring long-range goals”, Kenneh seems like he could thrive in the anchor man role if given the chance by Bielsa.

Speaking on The Roaring Peacock Youth Pod, Matty Ingham said: “One of the biggest prospects in the academy if we’re being honest. Big, physical presence, can carry the ball and he’s powerful and quick.”

The teenager has already admitted to modelling himself on Phillips, while he also added that he is a fan of Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, saying: “Currently I look up to Kalvin Phillips as (we) both play in a similar position, but I occasionally watch videos of Patrick Vieira for his qualities in midfield.”

He also has a big fan in The Athletic’s Phil Hay, who dubbed the 19-year-old “supremely gifted”, while he has been a permanent fixture in the under-23s, predominantly playing at centre-back.

Standing at an imposing 6 foot 3, he seems to have the physical attributes to hold his own at Premier League level; and given his versatility of being able to play in defence and as an anchor man in midfield, seems like he could be a perfect squad option for Bielsa going forward.

While the excitement surrounding Gelhardt is understandable, Kenneh could be the kind of hidden gem who makes the biggest mark at Leeds.

Meanwhile, Phil Hay has dropped an exciting Leeds United transfer update…

Cumprida a missão de vencer a Ferroviária no Pacaembu, o corintiano Fábio Carille começou a projetar o Majestoso do próximo sábado (27).

Time para o clássico

Rotatividade do elenco
Depende do que a partida me mostra.

Rangers: Van Bronckhorst drop Jack update

Rangers have been handed a major Ibrox injury boost over Glasgow central midfielder Ryan Jack…

What’s the latest?

Gio van Bronckhorst has confirmed that the Scotland international is scheduled to be back fit and available a week on from him suffering the knock.

Jack picked up an injury in the 5-0 win over Hearts in the Premiership and missed the clashes with Hibernian and Annan Athletic in the subsequent seven days.

The Dutch head coach told the club’s official Twitter account: “Ryan (Jack) will return to training this weekend.”

Rangers fans will be buzzing

Rangers fans will surely be left buzzing by this news as it proves that he has not suffered a long-term injury, with supporters potentially worried about how serious the blow was for Jack due to his problems over the years.

Since the start of the 2017/18 campaign, he has had 14 separate injury issues at Rangers. He has missed 14 or more matches in four of those injuries, whilst missing four or more in eight of then. This shows that he has been unreliable with his availability in recent years and this is why fans may have been concerned that he would be out for an extended period of time.

Instead, he is set to make a comeback this weekend after one week out with his knock. With Rangers playing away at Annan on Saturday, Jack’s return to training could come today (13/02/22) and that could put him in contention to face Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on Thursday after sitting on the sidelines for the last two matches.

Fans will be buzzing as he is capable of being a big player for the Gers on his day, given what he has shown for the club in the past. Last season in the Premiership, he averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.14 as he averaged 2.2 tackles and interceptions per game whilst also completing 90% of his passes.

This shows that he is able to deliver consistently brilliant performances in the Scottish top-flight when he is available to start a run of matches. Therefore, the Gers could be getting a major boost by his return this week if he is able to now keep himself fit and enjoy a succession of appearances in the side without picking up a long-term blow, as he has proven his quality when he is able to get out on the pitch.

Lyth sets up crushing win

Adam Lyth’s swashbuckling innings helped Yorkshire to a 104-run victory over Worcestershire in their Friends Provident t20 clash

Cricinfo staff22-Jun-2010
Scorecard
Man-of-the-Match Adam Lyth’s swashbuckling innings helped Yorkshire to a 104-run victory over Worcestershire in their Friends Provident t20 clash. Lyth smashed 59 from 24 balls as Yorkshire hit their highest Twenty20 total of 213 for 7 and it was all too much for the visitors.Worcestershire were all out for 109 in reply, with more than three overs remaining, as they limped to their sixth straight loss in the competition.Lyth, who only made it into the side because of a shoulder injury to Jacques Rudolph, opened with Andrew Gale and watched on as his captain began by hammering Jack Shantry’s second and third deliveries for four and six. With two more blistering boundaries off Richard Jones, Gale had raced to 19 off six balls but in the same over he skied a shot to former Yorkshire batsman Phil Jaques at midwicket.Gale’s departure was the signal for Lyth to go on the rampage with an 18-ball half-century, the joint third fastest in domestic Twenty20. So ferocious was his hitting that his first 48 runs off 16 balls were made up of nine fours and two sixes before he scampered a single and then ran a two to complete his half-century.The first two balls which Lyth faced after Gale’s dismissal were hit for fours and his first six came when he swivelled round and thumped Gareth Andrew high over square leg, a shot which he followed up with four through the covers. Sanath Jayasuriya was the next to suffer, driven for six over long on and cut for four to raise the 50 in 3.5 overs.Lyth took three fours in an over from James Cameron as the carnage continued and when Herschelle Gibbs joined in the fun with consecutive sixes off Moeen Ali Yorkshire had sprinted to three figures off just 6.5 overs. The second wicket stand reached 108 in seven overs when Gibbs fell for 40 from 25 balls.Lyth’s blistering knock was then ended by Jayasuriya, who pinned him lbw after he had struck 10 fours and two sixes. Worcestershire then managed to restore some order but Jonny Bairstow was still able to contribute an unbeaten 49 off 30 balls with two fours and three sixes. An upset never looked likely because Worcestershire then lost early wickets in a futile attempt to get on terms. Jaques was caught behind off Steve Patterson’s first ball and Ali fell to a well-judged catch by Anthony McGrath.Lyth continued to enjoy himself with a stunning boundary catch to bring Tino Best the wicket of Jayasuriya and Richard Pyrah dismissed Jack Manuel in his first over. Offspinner Azeem Rafiq destroyed the middle order with 3 for 23 off his four overs while Pyrah snuffed out the tail to give him figures of 3 for 12.
