-Infelizmente as lesões me deixaram para trás. Desde as lesões busco a melhor forma física. Eu me sinto bem melhor preparado pra me firmar no time. Chegou a minha hora.

E o garoto comentou a declaração.

Australia Institute drub New Zealand

A round-up of the matches on day two of the Emerging Players Tournament

Cricinfo staff21-Jul-2009
ScorecardThe 50-over format proved far more conducive to the Australian Institute of Sports’ liking than the Twenty20 yesterday as they drubbed New Zealand Emerging Players in Brisbane. The home side bounced back from a shoddy defeat to India at the same venue yesterday by defeating a New Zealand side that included internationals Peter Fulton and Tim Southee.New Zealand’s decision to field first came a cropper. Southee struck to have Australia 2 for 56 but the opener Rob Quiney (58) and Steven Smith ticked along. Quiney’s dismissal at 88 gave New Zealand little respite because Smith was joined by Matthew Wade and a 92-run alliance followed. Wade, the wicketkeeper, made a brisk 61 from 58 deliveries and Smith hit his maiden limited-overs century, finishing unbeaten on 125 from 114 balls. Southee bore the brunt of Smith’s late onslaught, finishing with 2 for 74. Neil Wagner and Tarun Nethula took one wicket each.A target of 301 was way out of New Zealand’s reach. Shaun Tait nabbed Fulton for 12 before Tasmanian allrounder James Faulkner ran through the middle order with splendid figures of 3 for 4 in five overs. Central Districts allrounder George Worker top-scored with 32 until he was last out, caught behind off Kane Richardson, as New Zealand were bowled out for 110 in the 31st over.
ScorecardSouth Africa Emerging Players downed India, after being kept to 214, to claim a ten-run win in their 50-overs match at the Fred Kratzman Oval in Brisbane.South Africa got off to a poor start after being put into bat, stumbling to 5 for 32 with Sudeep Tyagi, the right-arm seamer, accounting for all five wickets in a stunning opening spell. A recovery of sorts was launched by Farhaan Behardien (33 from 69 balls) and the wicketkeeper Heino Kuhn (46 from 58), who put on 75 for the sixth wicket. Then Daryn Smit and CJD de Villiers (39 not out) further lifted South Africa. Smit, after making 45 from 74 balls, became Tyagi’s sixth wicket. India did well to keep South Africa to 214 but conceded 19 extras, including 12 wides, which proved decisive to the eventual result.de Villiers dismissed the opener M Vijay for 0 and India suffered a double jolt with the score on 37, as Juan Theron got Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli was run out first ball. S Badrinath (32) and Abhishek Nayar (33) added 78 for the fourth wicket but South Africa hit back through Thandi Tshabalala’s two wickets, the second of which cut off Wriddhiman Saha who threatened to pull off victory with 47 from 78 balls. Theron too returned at the death to take two wickets and finish with 3 for 49.

Everton: Fans react to penalty image

Everton were denied a penalty in the second half of their goalless Premier League draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the spot after a challenge from Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on Blues forward Richarlison, but he then reversed his decision after being advised to consult the pitchside monitor (Sky Sports).

Everton were able to halt their run of three consecutive defeats with the point, but they remain without a win since 25 September, when they beat bottom club Norwich City at Goodison Park.

According to data gathered by ESPN, Everton have on balance been negatively affected by VAR so far this season, with four such calls going against them compared to three in their favour.

Could Everton have scored if Kavanagh had held off?

On Sunday evening, fan feed Toffee TV posted a screenshot taken shortly after Lloris’ tackle.

It shows Richarlison getting back to his feet and retrieving the ball just outside the left edge of the penalty area, with the Spurs goalkeeper racing back towards his line, and the image was captioned “Surely the ref could have played the advantage rule?”

Here’s what these Everton fans had to say in response, with many left unimpressed by the officials over the incident.

Key double ton builds Kent lead

A round-up of the latest matches in the County Championship as Robert Key hits a double hundred and Surrey’s Stewart Walters makes the first ton of his career

Stewart Walters jumps for joy after reaching his hundred•PA Photos

Division TwoRobert Key’s return to form continued apace as he reached his first Championship double hundred to put Kent in control against Glamorgan at Cardiff with a lead of 127. After the second day was reduced to 20 overs by rain, Key ensured Kent made rapid progress with an imposing, unbeaten 202. Although his first for Kent, Key has a previous double ton for England, against West Indies, in 2004 and this is sort of form that will keep him the selectors’ thoughts. He and Geraint Jones added 115 before Jones was caught behind driving then combined in dominant style with Martin van Jaarsveld as the pair put on 180. Key benefited from two dropped catches in the slips – one by Herschelle Gibbs and the other by Michael Powell – as he reached his double from 293 balls. van Jaarsveld fell four short of his hundred but Justin Kemp moved to 53 in an unbroken stand of 102 and Kent will look to add quick runs on the final day then have a crack at Glamorgan.Less than 27 overs of play were possible because of rain on the third day between Surrey and Essex at Guildford and, during that time, Surrey added 69 runs to their overnight score of 219 for 3. Stewart Walters, acting as captain for the first time, reached his maiden first-class century and remained unbeaten on 111. He was lucky , though, for he had been dropped by Matthew Walker on 90. Usman Afzaal also got to his hundred but he fell on 116, driving a low catch to Varun Chopra at cover, after adding 222 for the fourth wicket. He didn’t walk off the field alone for the rain came down and the other players left with him. Surrey, on 288 for 4, still trail by 113 runs in the first-innings and the game is heading towards a draw.Division OneRain meant just 9.1 overs were possible at Arundel. with Hampshire progressing to 224 for 2 against Sussex with Michael Lumb moving to 45 John Crawley unbeaten on 20Click here for John Ward’s report from the third day between Nottinghamshire and Durham at Trent BridgeClick here for George Dobell’s report from the third day between Warwickshire and Lancashire at Edgbaston

O treinador do Cruz-Maltino comentou.

Jayawardene and Dilshan put Sri Lanka in control

A wonderfully composed 26th Test century from Mahela Jayawardene and athrill-a-minute 92 from Tillakaratne Dilshan allowed Sri Lanka to dominatethe opening day’s play

A wonderfully composed 26th Test century from Mahela Jayawardene and a thrill-a-minute 92 from Tillakaratne Dilshan allowed Sri Lanka to dominatethe opening day’s play after two early wickets from Chris Martin had givenNew Zealand the perfect start in overcast conditions in Galle. Thilan Samaraweera weighed in with an unbeaten 82, adding 159 with Jayawardene, and by the time the players went off for bad light, New Zealand were downfor the count. The start had been delayed by 90 minutes and the New Zealanders had reasonto feel smug 40 minutes after winning the toss, but a rapid 118-run standquickly wiped the smiles off their faces. Dilshan drove and cut like adream, and at a pace that made you wonder whether he was practising forthe Delhi Daredevils’ Champions League campaign later this year. Thefastest century ever by a Sri Lankan was easily within reach when he cut adelivery from Iain O’Brien back on to the stumps. By then, he had 92 from72 balls, and the hapless O’Brien had gone at more than nine an over.Jayawardene’s approach was much less helter-skelter and far more measured. There were the characteristically lovely drives through the covers and thebeautiful late twirls of the wrist that sent the ball to third man, butthere were also periods of dogged defence against the accurate left-armspin of Daniel Vettori. There was a period after tea when he appearedbereft of inspiration, but once he stepped out to off-drive Vettori forfour, the fluency came surging back.Martin was clipped through midwicket for four and when O’Brien dropped oneshort, an emphatic pull for four took him to his 18th hundred on homesoil, at the very venue where he had scored his first 11 years ago.Samaraweera had been the perfect foil, taking time to play himself in andthen playing some magnificent shots himself. New Zealand had quietenedthings with a couple of maidens after tea, but Samaraweera releasedthe pressure with three boundaries off Jeetan Patel – a cover-drive, a cutand a glorious back-foot punch.New Zealand could scarcely have imagined such a leather-hunt after thestart they got. Martin’s two wickets had taken him to 162, past DannyMorrison and on to No. 4 in New Zealand’s all-time list. It took him justthree balls to make an impact. Malinda Warnapura had been dropped andDilshan asked to open, but the other opener, Tharanga Paranavitana, wassoon on his way, edging one behind. And after Kumar Sangakkara had clippedtwo lovely leg-side boundaries, there was an air of disbelief around theground as he struck one straight to Daniel Flynn at midwicket.Dilshan had watched all this from the other end, but it didn’t inhibit himin any way. He had started with a fluid drive for four off O’Brien, andthe part-time blogger was soon being subjected to harsh treatment. Therewere three ferocious off-side fours in one over, and when O’Brien droppedshort, he was pulled for six. An elegant cover-drive later, Dilshan hadhis half-century from just 30 balls.Jayawardene got off the mark with a languid drive for four off Martin, andhe kept picking the off-side gaps at regular intervals. Jacob Oram andVettori slowed down the run-rate, but with both batsmen driving Patelbeautifully through the covers, Sri Lanka were into three figures longbefore the luncheon bell rang. There was no respite after that either, with Dilshan slamming O’Brien over cover and then pulling contemptuouslyfor four more. A fierce cut took him into the 90s, but with historybeckoning, he lost the plot. There was a lull thereafter, but once Jayawardene eased to his 50 from 104balls, the scoring rate picked up again. Oram was guided fine twice andMartin then driven superbly through cover. When Samaraweera cut Patel forfour to bring up the 200, Vettori was looking around for wicket-takingoptions. There didn’t seem any. Martin bowled a decent spell with the oldball just before stumps, but the rest, Vettori apart, leaked runs, and twomajestic pulls from Samaraweera off the horribly expensive O’Brien werethe perfect bookend to a hugely satisfactory day for the Lankans.

Sonny Perkins could shine at West Ham

West Ham United saw the departure of one of their promising academy starlets this week but David Moyes should not be worried thanks to the array of exciting attacking talent coming through the system right now…

What’s the word?

According to the BBC, Championship outfit Peterborough United have signed 19-year-old striker Kai Corbett for an “undisclosed fee” on a “long-term deal.”

The teenager never made an appearance for the senior side but featured twice for the U-21s in the EFL Trophy last season.

Forget Corbett

He can easily be forgotten as it’s 17-year-old Sonny Perkins who is pulling up trees, both at Chadwell Heath and on the international stage.

Some around the club believe he could well be the next player to follow in Declan Rice’s footsteps, as once revealed by Irons insider ExWHUemployee.

“One thing to also pay attention to is a West Ham youngster called Sonny Perkins,” he told his ‘The West Ham Way podcast last month.

“This is someone I’ve spoken about on the podcast before as a talent, and he’s really beginning to stand out now at academy level, really getting rave reviews.

“Obviously performing on the international stage as well for his age, and he is one to keep an eye on. From what I’ve heard in the academy circles, he could be the next Declan Rice. So just keep your eye out for his progression within the next few years.”

The Hammers prospect recently broke into the club’s U23 squad, despite only being a second-year scholar, whilst he made his debut for the England under-18s just this autumn.

Across 13 appearances this season, including the Premier League 2, he has found the net eight times, averaging a goal every 120 minutes, via Transfermarkt. That is a very respectable record for any forward.

“Sometimes you forget that Sonny Perkins is only a youth team player,” ex-U23 head coach Dmitri Halajko claimed. “He could play the age group below if we wanted him to, but to get two goals at this level against a team like Liverpool as a youth team player is some achievement.”

Meanwhile, Create Talent coach Harry Brooks waxed lyrical about the teenager on social media earlier this week, claiming that he is “one of my favourite players to work with.”

“Sonny Perkins goal for England vs Netherlands… so so good. This kid is going right to the top,” he also said.

In Perkins, Moyes could have a real star of the future, so if he keeps this form up, then it’s only a matter of time before we see him involved in the senior setup in some form. Indeed, the Scotsman has regularly handed out debuts in the domestic cup competitions.

Forget Corbett, it’s Perkins who could set the London Stadium alight for many, many years to come.

AND in other news, Forget Vlasic: West Ham could finally secure perfect Lingard alternative in “god-given” talent…
