Morgan’s price tag rises 900% after Celtic exit

Celtic are no strangers to player departures, especially when it involves their star players.

You only need to cast your mind back a few weeks ago when the deadline closed with the Hoops losing three of their key men.

Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie all headed to England as they became the latest in a long list of names to move south of the border after shining in Glasgow.

However, the Premier League and Championship isn’t the only league that’s come calling in recent years.

MLS has also become a home for a few of Celtic’s former players. Patryk Klimala joined New York Red Bulls in January, joining Lewis Morgan in the United States.

Morgan only featured on 31 occasions for the Hoops in a two-year spell after being signed by Brendan Rodgers from St Mirren.

The tricky winger scored two goals during his stay at Parkhead but never really saw his career take off.

However, at the age of 24, the Scot is showing what they’re missing and is staking a claim for a regular berth in Steve Clarke’s national side.

The USA is often seen as a retirement home for some of the greats of the game but that notion has changed in recent years with many clubs actually exploiting the MLS to prise young talent away.

Based on Morgan’s rise over the last two years, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we saw him back in the United Kingdom before too long.

He moved stateside in a deal worth just £360k but such were his good performances that he is now valued at £3.6m via Transfermarkt. That’s a meteoric elevation of 900% in transfer estimation.

But why has that happened? Well, the £6k-per-week earner has emerged as a key player at David Beckham’s team, Inter Miami.

Coached by Phil Neville, he won the club’s MVP for 2020 after finishing as their top scorer on five goals. He was also a creative marvel for the Herons.

Morgan featured in every match last term, topping the MLS charts for big chances created on 14. The forward was also second for total chances created (65) and expected assists (7.93).

What’s most appealing about the forward’s style of play is his ability to play with both feet. That quality was discussed by Miami themselves: “It’s also important to note a very unique trait in Morgan’s skill set as he’s ambidextrous, meaning that he’s able to hit the ball with both feet.

“It is common to find players who control and pass the ball, but it’s rare to witness a player who can take set-pieces and whip in crosses comfortably with both feet.”

Hailed by Rodgers as a “dynamic” player during his time at Parkhead, it’s evident Celtic let a vastly talented player slip through their ranks here.

How they could do with his chance creation right now.

Predicted Liverpool XI to face Milan

Liverpool kick off their 2021/22 Champions League campaign with a clash against Italian giants AC Milan on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side head into the match having started the Premier League season with three wins and one draw from four games. They were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea, whilst beating Norwich, Burnley and Leeds without conceding a goal.

Their most recent win was against Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds, with Liverpool winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Mo Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane.

How many changes will Klopp make to the team for tonight’s big game? Here is our predicted XI for the match…

We are predicting that the Reds head coach will make three changes to the side, with Ibrahima Konate, Jordan Henderson and Kostas Tsimikas coming in.

The headline of those changes will be Konate making his competitive debut for Liverpool. He has been an unused substitute in all four of the club’s Premier League matches this season and a change in competition could open the door for Klopp to throw him in for Joel Matip.

Joe Gomez could also be in contention to partner Van Dijk, but we believe that the German coach will give him a bit longer to fully recover from his injury – starting Konate over him for now. It gives the French defender a chance to show why Liverpool paid £36m to RB Leipzig for his services and gives the often-injured Matip a chance to recover from the Leeds game.

We also believe that Robertson will be given a break to offer Tsimikas some more first-team minutes. The £55k-per-week Greek international started Liverpool’s first two Premier League matches and achieved SofaScore ratings of 6.8 and 7.6 against Norwich and Burnley respectively, providing an assist in the latter.

This shows that he has the quality to put in decent performances when called upon, which allows Klopp to rest Robertson when required. The Scot suffered an ankle injury earlier this season and giving him a game off against Milan could help to prevent any problems from reoccurring due to an overload of minutes.

Finally, we are predicting that Jordan Henderson will take Harvey Elliott’s place in the side following the youngster’s horrific ankle injury. Thankfully, he has had successful surgery on the ankle, but he is still expected to miss the majority of the campaign and will, obviously, not be fit to face Milan.

Henderson came on to take his place against Leeds and we believe that the substitution was an indication of Klopp’s thoughts ahead of the Milan clash. So, that means that the Reds skipper will be leading the team out to the Champions League anthem tonight.

In a surprise development, the ECB have called an emergency board meeting to discuss the rift between Kevin Pietersen and Peter Moores.Cricinfo understands that the 12-man board met by teleconference on Tuesday night, raising the possibility that Pietersen, who had not been due back from his holiday in Africa until Thursday, will pay the price for his outspoken views on the future direction of the England team.Research conducted by the ECB in the last few days suggests thatPietersen does not have the steadfast support of his team-mates or theback-room staff. The majority of the England support staff are understood to besupportive of Moores while most of the players are underwhelmed byPietersen’s dramatic intervention, as Steve Harmison demonstrated with his ambivalent comments on Tuesday. There is also some sympathy towards Moores who, it is understood, was given the authority to select the England captain when Paul Collingwood and Michael Vaughan resigned, and there are those within the set-up who feel that Pietersen has betrayed the coach’s trust.Attitudes towards Pietersen also appear to be hardening at board level. While few are completely convinced by Moores, they do not like themanner in which the captain has attempted to dictate events. As oneboard member told Cricinfo: “People who want to keep their jobs don’t issueultimatums. At this stage any outcome is possible.”Whether Moores’ position is salvageable remains highly debatable, however. There has been little evidence of progress under his tenureand his credibility may now be damaged beyond repair. A doubledeparture – Pietersen and Moores – is a growing possibility.Meanwhile, the identity of Moores’ immediate successor as coach has been shrouded in further confusion, after Warwickshire warned they may not necessarily keep Ashley Giles’sjob as the county’s director of cricket open, should he be asked to fulfil a role as”stop-gap” coach in the Caribbean.Though Warwickshire will not stand in Giles’s way if he is offered the job, his involvement in the West Indies would rule him out of any involvement in Warwickshire’s pre-season plans and the club want to minimise disruption in thedressing-room. Furthermore, it is feared that Giles could recruitAllan Donald – currently Warwickshire’s first-team coach – to help himin the Caribbean.

Harbhajan raring to go in New Zealand

India’s offspinner Harbhajan Singh, who will miss out on the forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka after picking up a hamstring injury, expects to come back fitter for the team’s next assignment, in New Zealand.Harbhajan, 28, is currently in Johannesburg, where he has been undergoing medical supervision for the last 10 days after suffering a tear in the tendon joining his hamstring and groin. He is, however, scheduled to return to India on Tuesday night.”I was fit enough to play without a break in any form of the game in the last two years and don’t see any reasons why it would be any different for New Zealand,” Harbhajan told . “More so when I have taken the required medical help in South Africa.”It was first detected in a scan during the tour of South Africa in 2006,” said Harbhajan. “It was then seen only as an inflammation. However, in Australia last year, another scan showed a little tear. The doctors then advised me to keep on playing and treat it whenever there was a long break from international engagements,” he said. With India’s tour of Pakistan, scheduled early in the year, called off, the team seemingly had no international commitments for a long duration and Harbhajan felt it was the best opportunity to deal with the issue.”I presently sensed a two-month window of no cricket in India’s international engagements and duly parked myself in South Africa for treatment,” he said. “Since then the Sri Lanka tour materialised and I could do little.”However, Harbhajan wasn’t required to endure an operation to get rid of the injury. “Fortunately, I wasn’t required to go through the surgeon’s knife,” he said. “There is a medical process through which your own blood is extracted and injected with white cells. Quite a few rugby players in South Africa have used this method of treatment. Even Graeme Smith, the South African captain, used this process to recover from his injury.”Harbhajan was a key figure in the squad during India’s previous tour of Sri Lanka in July-August last year. He was the highest wicket-taker for India in the Tests with 16 wickets from three matches at 28.12, followed by a slightly disappointing ODI series with six wickets from four matches at 18.83.This time around, India are scheduled to play five ODIs and a Twenty international on the tour, to be played out between January 28 and February 10.India’s tour of New Zealand begins soon afterwards, with the team arriving on February 20 for two Twenty20 internationals, five ODIs and three Tests.

Temos grandes goleiros no elenco.

Tottenham transfer news on Kane

Thomas Tuchel has now revealed how close Harry Kane was to leaving Tottenham Hotspur and joining him at Chelsea.

The Lowdown: Chelsea preferred Kane

Chelsea reportedly preferred to sign Kane over Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window, but while his future was still unclear at Spurs they opted for the Belgium international instead.

Manchester City were also firmly in the running to sign the England international captain, but in the end he stayed in North London.

The Latest: Tuchel on Kane

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match against the Lilywhites, Tuchel revealed (via Fabrizio Romano) that he thought that Kane would go to City, but admitted that they also had ‘some information’ on the striker, but a move to take him to Stamford Bridge was ‘never that close’:

“I thought Kane to Man City deal would happen. We never had a list with his name on it – but the club sorted out the situation. We had some information about Kane. But it was never that close that we had to experience the rivalry”.

The Verdict: Relief

It is certainly a welcome relief for Nuno Espirito Santo and everyone associated with the Lilywhites that they managed to keep hold of their talisman, despite interest from top teams in the Premier League.

There have been a number of reports recently suggesting that Kane would now be open to talks over a new deal, which would be vital in terms of keeping him at THFC for as long as possible.

Nonetheless, Tottenham now have to match his ambition, and by keeping him at the club they will have the best possible chance of success.
