Nice right-back Youcef Atal would be a good signing for Crystal Palace, Ligue 1 expert Adam White has told The Transfer Tavern.

Atal worked under Patrick Vieira during the Frenchman’s time in the Allianz Riviera dugout and is now being touted for a reunion at Selhurst Park.

According to Foot Afrique, Palace have made signing Atal a priority as they look to improve their defence further, already bringing in central defenders Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen.

For White of Get French Football News, who has compared Atal to legendary right-back Dani Alves, his acquisition could be very clever business by Palace.

“His first season under Vieira at Nice, he was absolutely brilliant,” White said. “Maybe Vieira’s thinking he’s a quality player and despite those injuries, he’s still a really good option.

“He’d be good for a team like Palace. Even if you play him at right-back in a four, he’s still quite a threat. There’s that sort of Dani Alves vibes there.”

This is not the first time Atal has been linked with a move to the Premier League. Back in 2019, The Telegraph reported that Chelsea had made the 25-year-old a target, only for their transfer ban to put a spanner in the works.

With his former manager now at Palace, perhaps Atal may finally make that move to English football.

But many counties have not been dissuaded by that and the numbers have continued to increase.At present, Kolpaks are limited to a few Caribbean countries, South Africa and Zimbabwe, but it is believed that there is a possibility that Australia and New Zealand could be included in the near future, opening the floodgates to even more. The ECB is unable under existing EU legislation to ban or impose limits on Kolpak players, although the review appears to have come about as the law was originally intended to apply to trade rather than labour.

Celtic are enduring a horrendous start to the season with life under Ange Postecoglou commencing in the worst way possible.

The primary issues surrounding last term still linger at Parkhead with the Hoops suffering back to back defeats domestically and in Europe.

Celtic are conceding goals regularly but they are yet to really hit the ground running from an offensive point of view.

Odsonne Edouard has played in three matches but rather uncharacteristically, hasn’t found the back of the net yet.

The Frenchman has been linked with an exit throughout the summer and came close to joining Leicester before they pulled the plug and signed Patson Daka instead. A potential move to Brighton could occur and if he does move away, a replacement will be required.

An audacious swoop for ex-Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been mooted with Celtic reportedly approaching the Spain international over his services.

It’s may seem like an incredibly far-fetched transfer but if it does happen, it would be a remarkable piece of business from Postecoglou.

That’s because Costa is one of the most eye-catching attacking players of the last decade. He is a bullish forward who is capable of destroying defenders not only with his technical abilities but also with his stubborn temperament.

In that sense, the Bhoys could find their own version of Alfredo Morelos. Both of them are players with a mean streak to their game but they are very much capable of finding the net regularly.

Costa is a proven elite striker who could light up Parkhead.

The recent bombings in Karachi and Islamabad have cast a shadow over the event but Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) chief executive Paul Marshsaid a decision will not be made before it get reports from its security experts and the Federation of International Cricket Associations.”They’re compiling reports which we should have within the next two weeks,” Marsh told . “Until you have all the information you can’t make a final decision but the concern levels certainly rise whenever there are bombings.”Cricket Australia is expected to take a decision within two weeks,according to their spokesman Peter Young. Ricky Ponting, Australia’s captain, had earlier said that several team members were concerned about visiting Pakistan and could skip the tournament even if security reports were positive.However, the PCB is confident the ICC will back the country to host the tournament. “We know that the bombings have come at the wrong time,” Shafqat Naghmi, the PCB’s chief operating officer, told the Karachi-based . “But we also know that this violence is not directed at any sports teams. Tottenham Hotspur have submitted a bid of €20million (£16.9million) for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, according to a recent report from French publication Homme Du Match.

What’s the story?

Berge has been with United since 2020, and has gone on to make 33 appearances in total for the Blades, which includes 16 from the 2020/21 season.

That was a frustrating campaign for the club though, as United were relegated from the Premier League, much to the frustration of the Bramall Lane faithful.

Despite the Blades’ struggles, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp labelled Berge as ‘interesting’ for his showing against Liverpool whilst with Belgian side Genk, whilst former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder called him ‘outstanding’ for his performance against the Reds.

However, with the Blades playing their football in the Championship this term, that has seen Premier League clubs come calling for some of their key players.

Tottenham are the latest club to enter the race to sign Berge, with the likes of Everton, Aston Villa and Arsenal previously being keen on reaching an agreement to land the Norwegian international’s signature before the summer transfer window reaches a conclusion on August 31st.

‘Outstanding’

Berge has settled into life at Bramall Lane with Sheffield United well but the midfielder’s future remains ‘up in the air’ at this moment in time, with a number of clubs rumoured to be interested in signing the 23-year-old.

He has featured in both of United’s matches in the 2021/22 campaign, which will be pleasing to see for the Bramall Lane faithful this term.

Berge had an average Whoscored rating of 6.43 from the 2020/21 season with United, which put him 14th on the list in the Blades’ best performers from last year’s campaign.

It has been well-documented that Slavisa Jokanovic’s side are well-placed to sign Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira, which could turn out to be a shrewd addition to the Blades’ squad.

That will leave the newly-appointed Sheffield United boss with a number of strong options to have in central midfield, with Berge being one of them, if they can keep hold of him.

It’s already been revealed that United hold him in high regard, with the club looking to stand firm in their valuation of the midfielder, and that’s exactly what they should be doing moving forwards into the later stages of the summer transfer window.

If they can keep hold of Berge and add Vieira to their squad, then a midfield trio of those two plus Oliver Norwood could be a frightening prospect for teams coming up against the Blades.

It would be a big call by United to keep Berge with the club, especially if they’re to turn down sizeable offers for his services between now and August 31st, but it would be a real statement of their intent and ambitions to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking if they do just that.

That’s exactly what they should do too.
