Cleiton chegou a fazer alguns trabalhos com bola ao lado dos companheiros, mas nos últimos dias vem focando os exercícios de fortalecimento muscular. De acordo com o médico Rubens Sampaio, que concedeu entrevista coletiva na semana passada, será comum vê-lo na parte interna do CT, devido à sequência de lesões dos últimos meses. Espera-se que o camisa 10 volte a ficar à disposição da comissão técnica na semana que vem.

Outro destaque do treino desta manhã foi a presença do atacante Rafael Marques. Ele não viajou ao Uruguai porque perdeu o treino de terça-feira para comparecer a uma audiência no Rio de Janeiro. Nesta terça, fez toda a atividade no campo, incluindo uma movimentação técnica em espaço eduzido.

Estão fora de combate os atacantes Cristaldo e Luan e os meias Moisés e Fellype Gabriel, todos em recuperação de lesões.

With Neil Lennon finally walking away from his role as Celtic manager, it came as a surprise.

That shouldn’t really be a sentence when you consider how poor their campaign has been. Yet, with the Northern Irishman staunchly defending his position, it looked like he’d stay for as long as possible.

Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell now have a big challenge to find the next man for the job. A host of names have been linked in recent weeks from Roberto Martinez and John Terry to David Wagner and Mick McCarthy.

Yet, another name has been Frank Lampard. The 42-year-old was sacked as Chelsea boss earlier this year and is a free agent. With that in mind, it would be much easier to lure him to Glasgow than someone like Martinez or Terry.

Watching him compete against Steven Gerrard would be an enthralling battle at the top of the SPFL but there is another underlying narrative brewing at Celtic.

There are a host of issues plaguing the club right now, one of which lies within the usage of academy players. It was very rare under Lennon for the club to select their best youth prospects, and as a result, a number are potentially departing the club.

Cameron Harper could be on the verge of a move to New York Red Bulls while it looks incredibly unlikely that Karamoko Dembele will stay. He is out of contract in the summer and is yet to sign a new deal.

Reports (via The Sun) state he probably won’t put pen to paper either. Although the 18-year-old has rarely played for the senior team, he’s still undeniably their most exciting talent coming through.

With the arrival of Lampard, however, they could finally convince Dembele to stay in Glasgow. At the moment, he clearly doesn’t see a way of getting into the Celtic first-team and who can blame him?

Though, the English boss’ arrival would only be good news for the young players at Parkhead; namely Dembele.

Lampard may have eventually failed at Stamford Bridge but if there was one thing to give him credit for, it was his usage of academy players. Chelsea have traditionally been a club that have opted for big money signings over blooding their stars of tomorrow.

Though, Lampard changed that. The likes of Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount rose to prominence under the former midfielder at Derby before they got their chance at Chelsea the following campaign. Tammy Abraham and Reece James also became key parts of a side that fielded the fourth-youngest squad in the Premier League last term with an average age of just 24.3.

Lampard has shown himself to be a terrific mentor for young players and if anyone can finally help Dembele make a long-lasting first-team breakthrough at Celtic, it would be him.

Reports in recent days have claimed that Chelsea striker Abraham has “admirers” at Aston Villa with his own future at Stamford Bridge unclear, amid the Blues potentially signing Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

If Dean Smith’s side were to pull off a deal for the £43m-rated Abraham, then that could spell big trouble for how Wesley begins to fit into his manager’s plans next season.

Both have got a similar style of play in terms of having the physical profile to hold things up, but also run the channels, and having both of them in the squad would be surely unnecessary.

The 6 foot 4 Abraham has the edge on Wesley when it comes to proven Premier League experience, with the England international having scored 15 goals in the competition just last season.

And, speaking after he delivered a superb display in the Champions League against Lille, Rio Ferdinand said: “I saw elements in Tammy’s game that I haven’t seen as much as I would have liked to before.

“His hold-up play, coming to the ball, bringing others into play. There were some balls that came into him that were Didier Drogba-esque. I think he’s developing nicely, he’s scoring goals, he’s scoring different types of goals and I think he’s a threat.

“This touch here (for his goal), when this ball comes to him, it’s a magnificent touch because it’s not the perfect ball. He adjusts his feet beautifully and the finish, the calmness to do it like that.”

With Abraham’s way of playing clashing with what Wesley brings to the table, Johan Lange has got a big decision to make on whether he goes forward with a move for the Chelsea man.

If he does, then it may spell bad news for the £90k-a-week earning Wesley.

Leeds United would be making a major mistake by signing Alaves goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco as Illan Meslier’s potential replacement.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent days and weeks have suggested that West Ham are interested in signing Meslier this summer, while Kiko Casilla’s long-term future at Elland Road is also in question after being dropped from the match-day squad last time out in the Premier League.

Now, Spanish publication El Gol Digital claim that Southampton have joined Leeds in the race to sign Pacheco this summer, and that he could be available for around £8m – a fee the report claims Marcelo Bielsa’s side would actually look to negotiate.

Radrizzani may be fuming

While it’s claimed that Leeds could try to bring that £8m fee down, Pacheco’s reported £50k-a-week wages would surely prove to be a major stumbling block – even if he were to accept the same money that he’s currently on at Alaves, that would put him among the Whites’ highest-earners, with only Rodrigo earning more.

That in itself would have Andrea Radrizzani concerned about coughing up a decent transfer fee and sizeable wages on a goalkeeper, but then when you look at just how poor of a player Pacheco has been this season, then the Leeds owner may be fuming about the club’s reported transfer target.

The Spaniard is part of a back-line that has conceded 42 goals in La Liga this season, the second-worst record in the entire division. While the defenders in front of him may bear some responsibility for that, Pacheco himself has hardly covered himself in glory.

When you compare his key goalkeeping metrics with that of Meslier, it just doesn’t stand up at all. Leeds’ shot-stopper has a far greater save percentage at 71.6% to 62.2%, while the Frenchman also has a better ratio of saving shots that are considered expected goals – Pacheco’s numbers in that stat are actually in the minus.

On the ball, Meslier is also far better, boasting an 81% pass accuracy compared to Pacheco’s 66%, which suggests the latter may not be the ideal ball-playing goalkeeper that Bielsa wants.

Pacheco also has that worrying knack of having some truly brain-fade moments – just last summer he had one monumental howler and lapse of judgment when he was sent off against Espanyol after flying out of his area and catching the ball well outside of his area.

Given the transfer fee, bumper wages, and the sheer fact he appears to be even worse than Meslier, Victor Orta appears to be making a major mistake by targeting Pacheco, and it’s a move that won’t have Radrizzani smiling whatsoever if Leeds splash the cash on the ‘keeper and he plays like he has done in Spain.

David Moyes will be eager to receive some good news on the fitness of Pablo Fornals after the West Ham midfielder missed Sunday’s defeat to Manchester United through injury.

That’s according to football.london, who note that Fornals was a late withdrawal from the squad at Old Trafford after sustaining a minor knock.

But the Irons are unlikely to be without the Spaniard for long, with it expected that the 25-year-old should make a quick return.

Fornals’ recovery is likely to hand Moyes a triple boost after the upcoming international break, with Angelo Ogbonna and Arthur Masuaku also said to be closing in on a return to first-team action.

Fornals had started West Ham’s past three Premier League fixtures before missing the 1-0 loss to Manchester United, having been given a surprise recall against Tottenham Hotspur last month after playing just six of the previous 270 available minutes of top-flight action.

Ogbonna has been in the treatment room since the FA Cup fifth-round loss at Old Trafford at the start of February when he sustained a high ankle sprain, ruling the 32-year-old out of five league games and counting.

Masuaku, meanwhile, has been sidelined since the Red Devils’ visit to the London Stadium in December, 20 games ago, having undergone career-saving knee surgery following the 3-1 defeat in what was his 11th start in all competitions.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s action, Moyes had said: “Angelo is doing great. He’s back in the gym regularly. He’s out of his [protective] boot and we’re expecting him to start some running on the AlterG, which is the machine that takes a bit of your bodyweight off.

“He’s coming along and I’m hoping that, maybe by the end of the international break, we might have him back on the grass in some capacity. Arthur’s trained two or three days this week with the U23s and trained with me for a couple of days now, so Arthur’s getting much closer to match fitness and all-round fitness generally.”

Moyes will be eager for good news on the potentially swift return of Fornals to action, having missed the Spaniard’s energy during Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Old Trafford.

Fornals had proven a vastly important cog in the West Ham attacking midfield line with his performances against Tottenham, Manchester City and Leeds United, while assisting Jesse Lingard’s winning goal in the London derby with Spurs.

Beyond penning his first assist in 17 Premier League games, Fornals justified his appearance against Jose Mourinho’s north Londoners as he was lively throughout the tie with a tireless persistence to his efforts, which returned more tackles (4) than his per-game average (1.2), per SofaScore.

He was the energetic star once again at Manchester City the following week, constantly driving the Hammers up the pitch and proving a handful for the runaway league leaders.

West Ham were without that presence at Manchester United on Sunday, where Moyes felt his side’s offensive moves were often “really poor” and sloppy, leading to a lack of sustained efforts to hit the Red Devils on the break.
