Manchester United spent huge sums of money in a massive spree in the summer as Ed Woodward sought to strengthen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad in all areas.

Whilst Woodward signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax, and secured the services of both Alex Telles and former Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani on transfer deadline day, the Red Devils have been unable to hit the ground running so far this season.

Lying in tenth place in the Premier League table, a point adrift of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Solskjaer’s side still have a lot of work to do as they head into December.

It’s about time Solskjaer starts to sort out some of the deadwood, as he desperately needs to lower the club’s colossal wage bill, and he may not have to look much further than Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who currently earns wages worth £15,000-per-week.

According to The Manchester Evening News, Solskjaer wants Fosu-Mensah to stay at Old Trafford as he is approaching the final seven months of his contract.

However, the versatile Dutchman, who can play as a centre-back or right-back, has only played 95 minutes of football so far this season, and was dropped from the first team for their past seven fixtures in the Premier League, via Transfermarkt.

It’s fair to say that he has been replaced by Axel Tuanzebe, who has turned out to be an able deputy at the back in recent weeks, whilst it would be wise for Woodward to cash in on the £5.7m-rated outcast in January whilst he still can before his market value falls even further.

The Red Devils may be reluctant to let go of another academy graduate after Angel Gomes left the club in the summer, but United chiefs will simply have to bite the bullet, as it is surely best for all parties involved if Fosu-Mensah moves elsewhere in the end rather than wasting away as an unused substitute on the bench.

Last season, the former Dutch international played just three games in the Premier League, whilst he averaged fewer than one tackle and one clearance per game, via WhoScored. By comparison, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is Solskjaer’s undisputed first-choice right-back, managed 3.7 tackles and 1.7 clearances on average per game in the top flight last term, as per WhoScored.

Rather than give him a new contract, Woodward must get rid of him for once and for all in the winter transfer window to raise surplus cash to spend on other areas Solskjaer urgently needs to address.

Manchester City marked Pep Guardiola’s 700th game in management with a comfortable 2-0 win against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

First-half goals from Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne secured the three points for the Citizens, in a result that sees them move up to fourth in the Premier League table.

However, it was perhaps the defensive display that will have pleased Guardiola most, as the result means that City have now kept seven clean sheets in their last nine games.

Once again, it was the performance of John Stones that stood out for City, with the former Everton man having re-established himself in City’s first-team in recent weeks, which has coincided with their strong recent form.

As per SofaScore, the 26-year-old picked up a sold 7.3 rating for his display against Scott Parker’s side, with Fulham rarely threatening Ederson’s goal.

During the 90 minutes, Stones made two clearances, one interception and two tackles, whilst he was dribbled past just once.

The England international also won two out of three of his ground duels during the game, suggesting that he was rarely bested by the Fulham players.

Stones was also superb on the ball, as he enjoyed 117 touches during the game, suggesting that he was consistently trusted with the ball at his feet by his City teammates.

He was extremely efficient with the ball, losing possession on just three occasions, which was the least of any outfield City player, whilst he completed an incredible 106/109 of his passes, resulting in a pass accuracy of 97%.

Therefore, it was an almost perfect display from the centre-back and if he continues his current form, it is hard to see Aymeric Laporte reclaiming his place in Guardiola’s first-team any time soon.

Earlier this year, former Inter man Ivan Cordoba had this to say about Stones when speaking to the Daily Mail:

“I really like John Stones of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

“A very strong defender. He is a complete defender in everything he does. I think he is one of the best in the world.”

Considering his recent displays for City, it seems as if Cordoba was not far off in this suggestion, as with him and Ruben Dias at the centre of City’s defence, Guardiola’s side are looking impenetrable at this moment in time.

واستكمل المدير الفني لمنتخب مصر: “التحضير إلى المرحلة النهائية من التصفيات سيكون هو الأولوية بالنسبة لنا في المرحلة المقبلة، ولن نفكر في أي أمر آخر”.

واختتم كيروش تصريحاته: “التحضير الجيد هو الطريق الوحيد للتواجد في كأس العالم المقبل”.

A partida entre São Paulo e Rondonópolis (MT), pela quarta fase da Copa São Paulo de Juniores, ficou manchada por briga entre torcedores do time paulista e policiais. A confusão aconteceu no intervalo do jogo no estádio Nogueirão, em Mogi das Cruzes, e atrasou em quase dez minutos o início da segunda etapa. Ainda não há informações sobre feridos.

Primeiro, foram disparados tiros de balas de borracha, que logo afastaram os brigões do local onde os guardas estavam encurralados. A indignação com a briga chegou ao meia Lucas, campeão do torneio pelo São Paulo em 2010 e que hoje defende o Paris Saint-Germain (FRA).

Will Grigg and Charlie Wyke appear to be the first-choice options at the disposal of the 39-year-old whilst Aiden O’Brien is also able to feature in the role.

Even in his first spell at the Stadium of Light, Graham was nothing special and then he cost £5m in fees and £30k-per-week in wages – in three years at the club he went out on loan four times and scored the one goal in 42 appearances, per Transfermarkt.

It is now twice that the veteran has proven he hasn’t got the ability to play for Sunderland in League One, let alone in the Premier League during that first stint.

New technical director Kristjaan Speakman must do all in his power to get rid of the £428k-rated Graham as and when the takeover goes through, there is a perfect opportunity to do so in less than three weeks time.

As Kevin Phillips put perfectly to Football Insider, the ex-Blackburn man is a “hustler” and a “bustler” but we’re thinking that should’ve been directed towards his ability to still con a wage right now.

Is Celtic’s season improving? Ever so slightly. They beat Lille in the Europa League, securing an impressive result and then at long last kept a clean sheet during their 2-0 win over Killie.

With a transfer window to come, however, it brings about as much worry as it does excitement.

What’s the word?

The excitement will stem from potential new arrivals. Mark McKenzie at Philadelphia Union has been linked with the club while there is even the potential for Manchester United misfit Jesse Lingard to arrive.

The fears, however, are that a number of their star men may leave. Olivier Ntcham has been touted with an exit and Odsonne Edouard – a target for a number of English clubs last summer – always tends to be linked away.

Kristoffer Ajer has attracted the interest of AC Milan but now it’s Jeremie Frimpong who has aroused the interest of a club in Italy.

That’s according to Italian newspaper La Gazzeta della Sport (via Glasgow Times) who report that Roma are pondering a bid for the young full-back.

It’s thought that a fee of £13.5m could be enough to tempt Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon into selling Frimpong.

Get it done

Let’s set something straight right away – on his day Frimpong is truly excellent.

The Dutchman is rampant on the right-hand side and has earned a host of plaudits from not only his own manager but also bosses on the continent.

Lennon said last year: “He’s an outstanding talent who looks after himself. Watching him makes me tired, the amount of runs he makes, he wears people down.”

Meanwhile, Mihails Koņevs – manager of Latvian club Riga – commented after their clash in September: “Celtic didn’t have a clear chance to score, but with the release of No. 30 [Jeremie Frimpong], which I was most afraid of and thought he would play from the start, dangerous episodes and a goal from the right flank also arose.”

With that in mind, it’s hardly a surprise he’s catching the eye elsewhere.

Though, this actually wouldn’t be too big a loss for the Hoops, especially defensively where they have struggled all season. They shipped eight goals in two matches against Sparta Prague and have conceded ten more strikes than Rangers in the league.

Frimpong doesn’t contribute much in the way of aiding that defence either. He has made just one tackle per game in the SPFL and produces 0.4 interceptions. Evidently, he is not up to scratch when the opposition piles forward.

The youngster is clearly very good going forward but right now, Celtic need someone astute defensively, especially if they’re to save Lennon’s job and indeed their season.

On this occasion, Lawwell should take the money and run.

Ufa! Talvez este tenha sido o sentimento da torcida santista, já com saudade de ver seu time jogar, quando a bola começou a rolar na Vila Belmiro. Mas durante o jogo, a impaciência tomou conta dos 9.341 presentes e até mesmo dos jogadores e o Peixe apenas empatou com o São Bernardo na estreia do Paulistão por 1 a 1.

Logo nos minutos iniciais, mais precisamente aos oito, a zaga santista deu bobeira dentro da área após cobrança de escanteio e a bola sobrou limpa para o zagueiro do Bernô Luciano Castán balançar as redes do Urbano Caldeira pela primeira vez no ano. Ainda tentando se encontrar em campo, o Alvinegro tentava trocar passes, mas esbarrava na marcação adversária e pouco conseguia criar.

Lucas Lima, único responsável pela criação das jogadas ofensivas, não conseguiu desmontar o sistema defensivo com passes rápidos e abusou dos lançamentos longos. O trio de ataque formado por Ricardo Oliveira, Paulinho e Gabigol, ainda buscando a melhor forma física após a pré-temporada, pareciam não ter pernas para apertar a marcação no campo de ataque e pouco criaram.

O único lance de perigo do Peixe na primeira etapa veio em bola aérea. Zeca recebeu pela esquerda e fez cruzamento na medida para Gustavo Henrique, que testou firme para linda defesa do goleiro Daniel, aos 19 minutos. Depois disso, os comandados de Dorival Júnior rondaram a área do rival, mas sem conseguir uma infiltração com a bola nos pés.

Sentindo o problema de criação de seus jogadores, Dorival voltou para o segundo tempo com o meia Serginho no lugar do volante Thiago Maia. O jovem até começou buscando o jogo e se movimentando, mas com o tempo, assim como toda a equipe, se perdeu em campo.

O Peixe voltou mais ligado dos vestiários, mas sem conseguir em momento algum assustar o goleiro Daniel. Em cobrança de falta na entrada da área, Lucas Lima mandou por cima do gol, sem perigo. Desesperado para buscar empate, o Alvinegro abusou da falta de atenção e passou a perder vários lances na defesa. Um deles, aliás, quase resultou no segundo gol do São Bernardo. Marino recebeu passe no contra-ataque, invadiu a área e parou em grande defesa do goleiro Vanderlei. Na sequência, Diego Ivo recebeu cruzamento e cabeceou para outro milagre do arqueiro santista.

Com Joel no lugar de Paulinho e Neto Berola na vaga de Renato, o Santos ganhou em velocidade. No único lance de inspiração ofensiva, o time da casa conseguiu o empate. Ufa! Lucas Lima recebeu pela esquerda e cruzou para Gabigol, livre, cabecear para o gol e deixar tudo igual no marcador.

Apesar da ansiedade e vontade para buscar a virada, a verdade é que faltou futebol ao Peixe na tarde deste domingo. A temporada já começou e é preciso jogar mais para conquistar o bicampeonato. Ufa! Pelo menos o empate…

كشف المدير الإداري بنادي الزمالك، عمرو أبو العز حقيقة دخول ثنائي الفريق الأول يوسف أوباما ومحمود علاء في خلاف مع ناشئ الفريق، الذي سخر منهما في إحدى البرامج الرياضية.

وانتشرت العديد من التقارير التي تؤكد أن محمود علاء وأوباما طلبا عدم حضور الطفل للمباريات مرة أخرى بعد التصريحات التي بدرت منه عقب الخسارة في لقاء القمة أمام الأهلي بخماسية مقابل 3 أهداف.

وعلق أبو العز عبر قناة الزمالك قائلًا: “كل هذه الأحاديث لا أساس لها من الصحة، نحن نتحدث عن لاعبين كبار لن يدخلا في خلاف مع طفل بهذا الشكل”.

وواصل المدير الإداري بالزمالك: “يوسف أوباما قائد الزمالك ومحمود علاء لاعب كبير ولن يدخلا في جدال مع طفل صغير، لم يتحرك أي منهما نحو الناشئ سواء قبل المباراة أو بعدها”.

واستكمل عمرو أبو العز: “في النهاية هو ناشئ في نادي الزمالك ولن يدخل لاعبان من الفريق الأول في خلاف معه حتى في حال وجود سوء تفاهم”.

يُذكر أن الزمالك فشل في تحقيق الفوز على البنك الأهلي في الجولة الخامسة من الدوري المصري الممتاز، مكتفيًا بتعادل إيجابي هدف لكل منهما.
