Everton endured their fifth defeat of this Premier League season over the weekend, losing 1-0 to Burnley. This embarrassing defeat has now sent Marco Silva’s squad into the relegation zone after just eight games.

The Toffees have endured poor performances across the field for most of this season, with the club now conceding 12 goals in these eight fixtures and scoring just six – the third-lowest in the league. Right now, it is just not happening for Everton’s forward men, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison, and Bernard the only players to hit the back of the net in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, the likes of Moise Kean, Cenk Tosun, and Theo Walcott have not even looked like scoring, with Kean averaging just 1.1 shots per game in the league since joining from Juventus.

However, one man with ties to the club has been comfortable in front of goal this season – loanee Fraser Hornby. The 20-year-old joined KV Kortrijk at the start of the season and has so far scored three times in four appearances for the Belgian top-flight side.

The striker has also impressed with Scotland over the years, scoring six times in 10 outings for the U21s. The 6 foot 3 forward can play a variety of roles, similar to that of Richarlison. As demonstrated by Transfermarkt, Hornby has played in every role across the forward line, whilst also providing the capabilities to play as an attacking midfielder and a central midfielder.

In adding such versatility to the Toffees’ academy sides, he has netted an impressive 16 goals in 20 appearances for the U18s, and then added a further eight to his resume in 33 outings for the U23s.

The times right now are worrying for the Merseyside club, with the forward man lacking goals at an alarming rate. But not just this, Kortrijk also have an option to buy Hornby at the end of the season, meaning Everton could lose a potential future attacking threat.

The English-born has proved his goalscoring ability along with his incredible versatility over the years, and attributes as such should never be overlooked. Throw into the mix that he is just 20, and perhaps the club have a future superstar on their hands.

Should Hornby return, he may not become a Goodison Park hero immediately. However, it almost goes without saying that whoever is in charge at Everton simply cannot let him leave in the club’s current circumstances.

وواصل: “الظروف اليوم كانت صعبة على الفريق، لذا كان من الصعب التكيف بعض الشيء، رياح ودرجة الحرارة، لذا عانينا بعض الشيء، لكن حققنا انتصارًا هامًا للغاية”.

وأتبع: “هذ الانتصار مهم لنا، لأننا قادمون من توقف بسبب المُنتخبات الوطنية، اليوم الفريق قدم أداءً جيدًا، وأنا سعيد بما فعله كل اللاعبين”.

وأردف: “هدف ريال مدريد هو الفوز بجميع المُباريات والألقاب التي نلعب عليها، نحن سنواصل القتال حتى النهاية من أجل الليجا ودوري أبطال أوروبا”.

وأكمل: “اليوم لعبنا بشكل جيد جدًا، وفزنا عن جدارة واستحقاق وقدمنا كل ما لدينا، سنذهب لمباراة الثلاثاء (ليفربول) بنفس الحماس”.

وأتم تصريحاته بالحديث عن تجديد عقد راموس قائلًا: “الكل يعرف ماذا يعني لنا راموس، نحن الآن نركز على المباريات الهامة التي تنتظرنا، حيث هُناك مباراة ليفربول إنها هامة للغاية لنا”.

According to Italian publication Calciomercatonews, Milan are interested in making a swoop for Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata.

What’s the word?

The Spain international has featured prominently for the Red Devils this season, making ten appearances across all competitions. However, his form for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has been rather underwhelming, and the 31-year-old has yet to provide a single goal or assist.

Now, Calciomercatonews claim Milan feel Mata can help reinforce their existing midfield options, and would add some quality and experience to their side. The report claims the Spaniard would not have any problem in leaving Manchester, particularly in light of suggestions the club are preparing a move for Barcelona man Ivan Rakitic.

Experience

Mata has been a great Premier League servant in his time at both Chelsea and now United, but it appears his career is on the decline. Compared to his numbers last season in the top-flight, the play-maker averages less shots (0.6), key passes (0.7), and dribbles (0.1) per game. So perhaps based on those figures alone, the Red Devils may understandably lean towards cashing in on the £37.1m man.

But, scratch beneath the surface, and it becomes clearer why Solskjaer cannot allow Mata to leave anytime soon. In a fairly young squad, the 31-year-old represents a rare, experienced voice in the dressing room. Speaking after the announcement of a new contract back in June, the United boss delivered a reminder of what the midfielder brings to the table off-the-pitch.

“Juan is the ultimate professional and one of the most intelligent players I have worked with. He is a great example to our younger players in his approach. We have some fantastic young players here and I know that Juan’s vast experience will help them to reach their potential over the coming seasons. I know that his talent and mentality will be invaluable to the squad.”

At a time of immense difficulty like the one United are currently facing, they need all the level-headed players they  can get. Mata is one of those whose long career in the game will be of enormous help to the likes of Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood. They haven’t experienced such tests like this before. The Spaniard has however, and that should make all the difference when it comes to snubbing Milan’s reported interest.

وعن ذلك، قال كلوب: “سأتحدث مع كورتيس بالطبع، أنت لا تريد رؤية مثل هذه الأشياء في الملعب”.

وأضاف في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “مترو” الإنجليزية: “نحن نعلم ما تعنيه لحظة خسارة المباراة، ومن الواضح أن ذلك يعني الكثير للأولاد، ويعني الكثير جدًا بشكل خاص لـ جونز”.

وواصل: “لقد قدم جونز مباراة جيدة حقًا، ربما كان أفضل لاعب”.

وتابع: “إذا لم يفعل الخصم أي شيء، فأنا متأكد من أن جونز لم يكن ليظهر مثل هذا رد الفعل، أو يقدم بعض الكلمات أو الإشارات أو أي شيء آخر، ولكن لا يزال لم يتصرف بشكل صحيح في تلك اللحظة، هو يعرف ذلك”.

واستكمل: “إذا سألت جونز إذا كان سيفعل ذلك مرة أخرى، سيقول لك لا، ولكنه فعله، لكن هذا كل شيء، على حد علمي لم يكن الأمر بهذا السوء”.

واختتم: “لا بأس، سأتحدث معه، الشيء الوحيد الذي تفعله حيال الأخطاء التي ترتكبها في الحياة هو التعلم منها وهو سيفعل ذلك”.

أوضح أولي سولشاير المدير الفني لفريق مانشستر يونايتد الإنجليزي، أنه يحافظ على حوار مفتوح مع إدينسون كافاني مهاجم الفريق، بشأن مستقبله.

وأتم: “لم يتبق سوى ثماني مباريات وأنت تفكر في المركز الذي سنتهي الموسم فيه، لقد كان إيجابيًا للغاية ورائعًا، ويعمل بجد الآن للحصول على لياقته البدنية التي استعادها والآن، نأمل أن نحافظ على لياقته خلال الأسابيع الستة أو السبعة المقبلة”.

Everton currently sit in the relegation zone on just seven points from eight games and are in desperate need of a win against West Ham United.

One man who needs three points more than almost any manager in the Premier League is Marco Silva, with the former Watford boss reportedly given the next three games to try and save his job and convince Farhad Moshiri he is the man for the future.

However, with just six goals scored and 13 let in, Everton will be up against it when they host the Hammers on Saturday.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be in a confident mood because of the Blues’ poor form, as well as the fact they have lost just once in the Premier League since their opening day defeat to Manchester City.

Lucas Digne has been one of the best players under Silva’s reign, with the Frenchman winning the club’s Player of Year last season. Although he has been part of a struggling defence this time, Digne still has two assists and 2.1 key passes per Premier League game so far and he continues ahead of Jordan Pickford at left-back.

Yerry Mina and Michael Keane have played every minute of Premier League action this season, despite letting in 13 goals. The club’s lack of recruitment defensively means the out of form Keane should start, with Mason Holgate the only backup – the 22-year-old has just 17 minutes of league action so far.

The biggest changed expected is at right-back, with Djibril Sidibe coming into the starting XI because of Seamus Coleman’s suspension. The Irishman’s one-game ban opens the door for the Monaco loanee to start his first league game – the Frenchman played 31 minutes against Burnley.

Despite a dismal 6.09 season rating so far for Morgan Schneiderlin, the 29-year-old may keep his spot based on injuries to Fabian Delph and the lack of action seen by Tom Davies. The Frenchman has been in torrid form all season, but the return of Andre Gomes in the centre could prove to be huge for Silva alongside him.

Up top, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to start again, despite just two league goals this season. The 22-year-old should keep his spot based on the fact Moise Kean has not scored for his new club.

Although Gylfi Sigurdsson has just the one assist so far this term, the 30-year-old’s 13 league goals last campaign mean he could still be vital for Everton in this tough time for the club. The same applies to Richarlison who also bagged 13 league goals last season – the Brazilian’s two so far should keep him his spot.

Completing the line up should be Bernard, who comes in for Alex Iwobi following his anonymous display at Turf Moor last time out. The former Shakhtar Donetsk man is one of only four league goalscorers in the Everton squad so far, and his pace could threaten Ryan Fredericks at right-back.

When Mark Warburton took over at QPR back in May, things looked far from convincing at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

Steve McClaren had just been sacked following a run of just one win in 15 league games, and the R’s disappointingly went on to finish the campaign in 19th place.

To make matters worse, star man Luke Freeman – who scored seven goals and recorded six assists in 2018/19 – left the club and became Sheffield United’s club-record signing.

Warburton had a lot to do, and he has coped admirably.

The R’s currently sit 5th in the Championship having won seven of their 13 league games, scoring 23 goals along the way – they sit just three points off the top of the table.

However, their fine campaign is being tainted by one very concerning statistic, one that needs sorting as soon as possible.

QPR are the only side in the Championship yet to keep a clean sheet this season. The ONLY side.

Out of all 24 teams, everyone else has managed to keep a shutout apart from the R’s. That includes 24th-placed Barnsley, a side with just one win all season who have shipped 25 goals along the way – worryingly, they are the only side to have conceded more goals than QPR.

As things stand, the likes of Nahki Wells, Jordan Hugill and Eberechi Eze are masking Yoann Barbet and others’ errors at the back.

Wells has seven goals in eight league starts. Hugill has seven goals in 10 starts. Eze has an impressive six goals and three assists in 13 starts – the trio are certainly helping to paper over the cracks at the back.

Sooner or later, the goals will dry up over the course of a gruelling 46-game Championship season, where defensive solidity will be needed to grind out results.

It has been an impressive season so far, but if Warburton cannot figure out a way to put together some clean sheets, it’s only a matter of time before it all comes crumbling down.
