Offspinning allrounder Sneh Rana has made a comeback to the national side, finding a place in India’s 15-member squad for the Commonwealth Games starting July 29 in Birmingham. Rana, who returned to the side in 2021 after a five-year gap, had been rested for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka that concluded last week.In another surprise move, the selectors included Taniya Bhatia as one of the two wicketkeepers alongside Yastika Bhatia, with Richa Ghosh left out of the main squad and named as one of the three standby players. Ahead of the tour to Sri Lanka, head coach Ramesh Powar had said that Rana had been rested with a view to managing her workload. “Sneh has been rested for this series and she is in the NCA working on her fitness,” he said. “Moving forward, the FTP that we have, there are about 20-25 T20 games and we want our players fresh for all the series. We want to manage the workload of the bowling unit as well as the batting unit. We are trying to balance it out. Ex-Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri was also mentioned as a possible replacement for Dyche before his dismissal, in what would be a high-profile appointment. He won five Serie A titles during his stint in Turin, also reaching the Champions League final in 2017.

Everton prepare offer for "superb" ace

Taking to X on Friday, Hawkins claimed that Everton are preparing an offer for Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah, and have a “good chance” of signing him in January.

Nuamah is a young player with so much potential, which is exactly the type of footballer the Blues should be looking to sign moving forward.

The 21-year-old is making a name for himself at Lyon, already making 49 appearances for Ligue 1, scoring four goals and registering three assists in that time, and he netted 20 times in 49 outings during his time at Nordsjaelland, too. His end product should only improve with age as well.

Nuamah has also scored three goals in 12 caps for Ghana, making an impact on the international stage, and journalist Bence Bocsak has described him as a “superb” player.

Primarily a right-sided attacker, Nuamah could provide a nice balance for Everton’s next manager, with Iliman Ndiaye on the opposite flank, and the fact that he would be a long-term addition means the Blues should see him as an exciting signing.

Even with five of their squad on international duty, defending champions Southern Vipers were too strong for East Midlands side Lightning as they made it three Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy wins from three at the Incora County Ground, Derby.Maia Bouchier and Freya Kemp, named in the squad for the Commonwealth Games, joined Danni Wyatt, Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean on England duty but Vipers still posted 294 for 6 in their 50 overs before dismissing Lightning for 228 in 44 overs.Hitting 10 boundaries each, Vipers skipper Georgia Adams (82) and 19-year-old Ella McCaughan, whose 72 was a career-best in List A matches, shared a partnership of 153 for the first wicket before Emily Windsor swelled the Vipers’ total with an unbeaten 47.Josie Groves, Lightning’s 17-year-old leg spinner, showed she can also bat by hitting a maiden half-century to go with two wickets, but it was a performance in vain as her side finished 66 runs short, off-spinner Charlotte Taylor taking 3 for 31 as the stand-out bowler, Tara Norris picking up 3 for 35.Without Grace Ballinger, their hero with the ball in the win over Thunder last weekend, the Lightning attack were made to struggle when Vipers won the toss and chose to bat first in ideal conditions, their cause not helped by giving McCaughan a life on 43, when she was dropped at mid-on off spinner Lucy Higham.After treating the new ball with respect, posting 37 in the opening 10 powerplay overs, Adams and McCaughan hit the accelerator as McCaughan completed her half-century from 69 balls, having given just that one chance. Surrey 186 for 1 (Steel 68*, Patel 67*) beat Durham 181 (Trevaskis 55, Kimber 2-15) by nine wicketsSurrey bounced back from defeat in their opening match of the Royal London Cup to thrash Durham by nine wickets in their Group A clash at South Northumberland Cricket Club in Gosforth.The visitors were outstanding with the ball to bowl out Durham for 181 from only 40.2 overs as Yousef Majid, Nick Kimber, Matt Dunn and Conor McKerr claimed two wickets apiece. Liam Trevaksis top-scored with a career-best 55, but the home side were well off par and had a huge challenge to defend their total.Cameron Steel and Ryan Patel produced a brilliant stand of 132 for the second wicket to knock off the runs with ease. Steel led the way with his second List A half-century, pouring on the agony against his old club, who were ordinary at best in the field, dropping multiple chances.Surrey knocked off the winning runs with 21 overs to spare to get off the mark in the competition.After winning the toss, Surrey made the most of the new ball, dismissing Alex Lees and Scott Borthwick cheaply to make inroads into the Durham batting line-up. The 2021 Royal London Cup leading-run scorer Graham Clark looked comfortable in the early overs, scoring four boundaries to build his innings.
