According to TyC Sports via Sport Witness, Nottingham Forest are now considering a first offer to sign Gonzalo Montiel on a permanent basis from Sevilla following his loan spell in the Midlands last season. A World Cup winner, Sevilla will reportedly decline any offers below the €9m (£8m) mark for their right-back this summer.

As things stand, Neco Williams is in line to start in the right-back role under Nuno, as he did when available last season. Alas, it must be said that when the Welshman isn't fit, Forest lack an adequate backup to step into their side, which is where Montiel could come in.

For just £8m, Forest could land crucial depth in their pursuit of a season away from relegation trouble in the Premier League.

"Great" Montiel can compete with Williams

Proving that he can fill in for Williams last season, Montiel could now emerge to do exactly the same job in the forthcoming campaign. The addition of the Argentine isn't one that will steal the same headlines as Sosa, but it would arguably be just as important for the sake of Forest's squad depth as the Premier League gets underway once more.

Described as a player with a "great pedigree" by former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper when he first arrived on loan last season, Montiel has quite the decision to make in the next two weeks.

27 years old and a player who should, therefore, be in the peak of his career, Montiel is reportedly keen to remain in Europe which makes Forest an ideal option. What's more, a familiar face among several other incomings wouldn't exactly be a bad thing for Nuno. As the start of their Premier League campaign approaches, Forest would be wise to make their move for the Argentine.

Manchester United have strengthened across the board this summer, but there's one prominent transfer thread yet to have been conclusively wrapped up.

Manuel Ugarte did not enjoy the most auspicious of debut campaigns, signing for Paris Saint-Germain from Sporting Lisbon in a £51m deal last summer, but the 23-year-old has attracted Old Trafford's attention due to his steely skillset and wide expanse of growth still ahead.

He no doubt has a tough journey ahead, but then Ugarte has all the properties to establish himself as a leading player in the Premier League.

As per Fabrizio Romano, United are closing in on signing Ugarte; at this stage, it would be a surprise to all parties if a deal were to fall through.

Transfer talks between the two outfits have been protracted but a resolution is indeed close, with a loan move with an obligation to buy suggested as one possible solution. Ugarte, for his part, is desperate to journey to the Theatre of Dreams.

He's also a high-class distributor, ranking among the top 6% of central midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for pass completion, as per FBref. Sure, he's not the most expansive with his passing, but a crisp and secure body in the centre is exactly what the Red Devils need.

By adding him to the mix and providing an upgrade on Casemiro, the likes of Kobbie Mainoo could operate with greater freedom, while Bruno Fernandes could be more secure in his all-encompassing creative dominance.

All this, in turn, would spill over to Ten Hag's frontline, where centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund might finally receive the service that his prolific quality deserves.

Last year, he scored ten goals from 30 matches in the Premier League despite blanking until Boxing Day, also proving to be a shining light from United's bleak Champions League campaign, bagging five goals from six outings.

To back up that point about an absence of service, Man United ranked joint-12th in the Premier League last season for big chances created, alongside Bournemouth, so Hojlund really did struggle to find the kind of support he needed to perform at his apex.

Once predicted to become a "monster" of a striker by Reading head coach Ruben Selles, Hojlund proved that he could score goals despite his young years and lack of playmaking support.

Now, United are moving up a gear or three, and he could now grow into one of the continent's star strikers.

Lancashire openers Keaton Jennings and Alex Davies posted their fourth 50 partnership of the season as day one of their LV= County Championship clash with Northamptonshire was cut short by heavy rain.Just 70 minutes play was possible as Northamptonshire welcomed back crowds to Wantage Road to watch Lancashire advance to 59 without loss from 16.5 overs in the morning session.Northamptonshire captain Adam Rossington had won the toss and opted to give his seamers first use of a pitch in overcast conditions. Gareth Berg and Ben Sanderson beat the bat regularly and saw a number of edges fly just wide of the slip cordon.The Lancashire pair though looked to be positive, with Davies striking three fours and bringing up the 50 stand when he clipped Tom Taylor through midwicket. Jennings then found the boundary by going down one knee to stroke Wayne Parnell through the covers before surviving a big shout for leg before wicket against the same bowler on 20.The rain then forced the players from the field. A planned resumption after lunch had to be abandoned when the bad weather returned and play was eventually called off shortly after 4pm.

City's ball retention and domination made it difficult for West Ham, who temporarily tested the four-in-a-row Premier League champions through a Ruben Dias own goal, but Haaland dispelled any notion of an upset with some deadly finishing.

Antonio was handed a 5/10 match rating against Man City, with 90min's Sean Walsh writing: 'Gave his all and worked hard for the cause, though at crucial moments was muscled out by City's younger and more athletic defenders.'

It's not the fairest yardstick to use as an indicator of Antonio's performance level this season, but his efforts across the opening month have left plenty to be desired. He must now be dropped.

The Jamaica international will be 35 years old before the end of the campaign, and while he's still a brutish presence and a nuisance for defenders, there's little question that he's approaching the twilight stage of his career.

With that in mind, Niclas Fullkrug was signed from Borussia Dortmund for a £27m fee in the summer, a similarly hulking figure but more dynamic in his movement and playmaking ability.

Moreover, Jarrod Bowen continues to serve as West Ham's true attacking talisman, netting twice so far this season after scoring 20 goals across all competitions last year, hailed as "unplayable" by Brentford boss Thomas Frank after firing a hat-trick past his team.

And as you can see above, Antonio's effort against Pep Guardiola's unit wasn't exactly an outlier in his start to the season. Notably, he only made three passes last weekend but the veteran has also yet to hit the target in the Premier League, winning just 33% of his contested duels to boot.

His 17 touches amounted to very little, unleashing one blocked shot, failing with half of his six attempted passes and failing – again – to make a single key pass for his teammates. West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola actually took more touches (23), despite being substituted at half-time due to injury – which really says it all.

It seems like the right time for Lopetegui to think about loosening his grip on his preferred starting line-up, with the numerous summer signings now acclimatising to life in east London and entering the international break with a focus on building cohesion and tackling the forthcoming fixtures.

Antonio, while still a player to can make an impact, must move to the bench, or else West Ham will find themselves operating with a faulty focal point.
